Hi everyone. I am just coming to the end of my 14 day trial and was all set to subscribe. however i have been fragged twice today by bullies in battlecruisers! what is the point of blasting a tiny lone frigate? i just undocked last time (on my way to pick up ammo) and got fragged straight away, then the w+++++s pod killed me! I must say i enjoy this complex and varied game but idiots like this are putting me off. It takes ages at my level to make cash and i have to jump all over the place to refit. Is it always like this?

And you did not recieve the warning about not entering low-sec if you are a n00b? And yes, that also applies to ppl at the end of a 14-day trial. --- So I flame and troll when the occasion calls for it. So what are you gonna do about it? |

Honestly: Yes, it is always like this, particularly if you've been flying around lowsec. Golden rule is if you can't afford to lose it, don't fly it. This goes double for flying into lowsec where they can shoot you without the law getting to involved. You'll get over it, and as you get more experienced it's not really that scary out there.

No offense man, but you lost a frigate.
That's small potatoes compared to what others lose.
If you want my honest to goodness advice...
1) Subscribe
2) Try out the new exploration mode when the new patch comes out on Wednesday
3) tada, have about 3-5 million isk!
Realize that losing ships is part of the game. While it sucks, we move on, and you will usually wind up finding better parts for your ship. I know I always have.

If you enter low security space you invite people to take you on. In a frigate you are much better equipped to perform a gtfooh maneuver than any battleship so run if you like.
Even if you're not a good fighter you can always save up some money and hire mercenaries to beat up the big bad bullies. ----- English is a complex language. Use it as best you can. |

Low sec is a dangerous place- about as close to a "PvP zone" from other games as EVE gets (note that in EVE, EVERYWHERE is a PvP zone, but in high sec it's a bit less likely). It's not that tricky to avoid PvP in low sec if you need to, but it's just one of those things you learn to do as you learn the game.
If EVE is the game for you, you'll pick yourself up, learn any lessons there are to be learned, and keep on going. If you can't do that, EVE will probably not be the best game for you. --------

I've played MMOs for the last ten years, from the old dialup BBS games to the first big online MMO Ultima Online to the newest variation of WoW. Eve, without question, has the most unfriendly player base of any game I've played. It also has the most intresting combat dynamics and politics. I think that once you get over the low-sec pirates, NBSI 0.0 "defense," and greifers, you will find Eve to have the richest gameplay you can find.
Best of luck.

In my experience, low sec is always like that. A large portion of the people populating low sec and certainly the portion you are most likely to meet are pirates that spend their time camping gates and scanning asteroid fields not because their is particularly good ISK in it but because they love ganking people. For the most part they don't even enjoy a good duel, out of 8 challenges I've had 2 accepted. 0.0 is the old Wild West reincarnated, the group with the biggest guns and willingness to use them runs the county. Empire is your modern metropolis, full of commerce and all the niceties of civilization but swarming with police. Low sec is the slum in between where everyone must pass but only a few well armed gangs of mission runners stay.
There are plenty of friendly people out there in EVE, like a guy named Man of Leisure (SP?) that is still in the newby corp after two years because he likes helping people. I remember when I was just beginning to do L4 missions and accidentally accepted Worlds Collide, he showed up with his CNR, got me through it in about an hour and then refused any kind of payment from me saying the bounties were enough for him. You'll meet a lot more of these people once you join a good corp. In the meantime, drop me an eve-mail in game and when I get off work I'll give you a million ISK to help get you in a decent ship.

Hardly. If you've only been in the game for the trial period, I'd advise you to stay in highsec and run some missions, or something similair.
That's just my opinion, though.

Welcome to Eve-Online, as you have probably noticed people here are very unsympathetic in general. Don't let it affect you choice to join the community though, once you have been around a while you will learn what to look out for and enjoy your playtime. The advice, slander, flames above are more or less true if not tactful. Avoid low-sec if you can't afford to die quick and easy death.
Think of 0.4 and below as "any ghetto" anywhere, don't trust anyone and watch your back. The difference here in Eve, everyone is out to get you, period. If you want contact me in-game, we are always looking for new people and welcome you to come fly with us till you get your bearings.

If you let them kill you, you will die. I think it's reasonable to be that way. --
There are countless games in the world. There are at least as many ppl that dont like one or more rules of said games. That never stopped smart game designers from creating good games.

OMAI GAWD Best response ever.
To the OP: you shouldnt go to lowsec during your first few months, just gather up some cash and get your skills into shape. Then, if you wish, you can try pvp, or go to 0.0 for bigger income. Lowsec is basically solely for pvp. ___________________________________ You can either choose to agree the above, or distribute your own opinions, if you do; please flame, I like making people angry.

I know people who started ratting in lowsec almost from the get-go. Sure they died now and then but the rewards were good enough.

I have no idea, but eve is damned efficient at sorting out the people that will not make it and those that will.
I personally was reading Warp Drive Active well before I started playing.
I like to think I had a rough idea of how funny or harsh it could be, thus well prepared. ----------------------------

The advice, slander, flames above are more or less true if not tactful. Avoid low-sec if you can't afford to die quick and easy death. EVE is much like real life and not like other rubbish MMO's where everyone is either an orc, elf or some ggek with a pointy hat. In EVE you actually have to think before you decide to do sothing, even it it means something as trivial as jumping into another system or undocking in your non combat ship transporting everything you own.

No, it is not always like this. Sometimes you get to lose more expensive ****, even if you are more experienced. It hurts, but the moment you jump a gate out of high sec, there is a warning saying you are on your own and life is dangerous.
This is like a 1st level character in Neverwinter going into the wrong part of the city and getting his character killed - well, duh, if you try to do what your character is not ready for, you will go wrong.
That being said - there is a way to learn. Agony Unleashed teached PVP Basic courses - and some corps, such as fx. my own - willingly take on noobs and teach them. But we cannot protect you from the dangers of low sec and 0.0 - so if you go there, all we can do is teach you the best odds of survival.
Send me an eve-mail if you want to be taught...
