When are people actually going to read up on this game before playing?
I have no idea, but eve is damned efficient at sorting out the people that will not make it and those that will.
I personally was reading Warp Drive Active well before I started playing.
I like to think I had a rough idea of how funny or harsh it could be, thus well prepared.
Same here, I buy too many PC gaming mags for my own good, and as a result, I started EVE aware that there was a chance I'd lose ships to players. Sure, some things I didn't count on - like an actual idiot ("I didn't expect you to pop so fast!" "It was an Exeq set up for mining, you plank!") and for some reason I expected gatecamps to be someehre like 0.2 sec, and not the 0.4 I got pounced on - but still, learned from my mistakes instead of screaming "no fair" on this forum.

You misunderstood. I meant your character's age which you yourself said is less than 2 weeks. I have no idea how old you are in RL, nor do I particularly care. My point is that it takes precious seconds to load up someones info, so they wouldn't know you only started playing 2 weeks ago. For all they knew, you were carrying a titan BPO. --------------------------------------------------------------------

I remember getting 'bullied' by some char who wardecced my noob corp.
However - We didnt cwy and moan and bleet to CCP like so many others - We formed up a squad of noobs and took out one of their BS before getting spanked royaly
Anyway - 15 months later - as a member of The Privateer Alliance - I was present when this guy got a Right Roayl spanking and lost two carriers and numerous BS. Part of the game. Shrug it off - Quit - or seek revenge. Its up to you

There are no "levels" or similar numbers that display above our heads in this game. And character age can be deceiving (SP-wise, probably below average for my age).
So there's no telling who's a noob and who's just a noob corp alt. par for the course.

Out of the goodness of my heart I am going to refrain from bashing the OP and just offer practical advice.
Enter .4 or lower = /pvp on Join corp = /pvp on
Every other time, Concord will destroy your attacker (though usually not in time to save you)
How to refit :
Refit at a market hub or minihub.
Hub = Jita, Rens, Oursalaert, Amarr Minihub = Hek, Airiken, Torrinos and many others
Minihubs are LOCAL places where all the people in a region have designated as a place to buy and sell goods. It might have started with 1 industrial corp offering everything under the sun, and now everybody sells all their loot there, so you can buy everything at a one stop shop.
So instead of flying around for 2 hours to buy a shield booster, you just buy the ship, fittings and ammo in one station.
It usually costs a little bit more, but it is much more time efficient.
Also note that the big hubs usually have ppl sitting at the gate with cargo scanners, as soon as someone with a hauler comes through with a few hundred mil worth of loot, they gang kills his ship, and an accomplice in a hauler comes scoops up the surviving loot, which is usually enough to replace the ships the attackers lost.
How to avoid this :
If you have extremely valuable loot like more than 100m, don't use a t1 hauler. Use tanked t2 hauler.
Or if the loot is super valuable, worth billions, use a tanked battleship.

After 3 months of play, I've never been attacked in high-security space and I've only once ever been targeted with malicious intent (I escaped). 3 of my ships have blown up (2 to NPC rats that I underestimated and 1 in 0.0 Tau Ceti Federation space). I haven't encountered PvP in lowsec yet, but that's mostly because I avoid it whenever I can. I think you just had a stroke of bad luck (or I have good luck). Going into low-sec, or joining a corp with active wardecs, is a calculated risk. Sometimes, it bites you in the ass. :-/

FFS get over it already. Has everything about EVE degenerated into Goonery for you. How sad.
To the OP, tough breaks, man. Stick with it though. This game is definately worth it. Once you subscribe and get some SP under your belt (thats Skill Points), join a good corp! Thats where all the fun is!
BTW, I got ganked a lot as a noob, as well. I just kept a list on my notepad of all the offenders, and then once I had some friends in-game, it was payback time

To the point.
Pretty much what everyone said. Low-sec isn't safe and the pirates can pretty much do what they like, as was the idea of the game. I still say that it may have helped you a great deal to read up on the game beforehand so you get a general idea of what you're dealing with. Won't make you immortal or invincible, nor will it help you 'pwn' in any area whatsoever from the word go, but at least if you did, some of the nasty surprises could have been somewhat 'dulled' a little.
...
Erm, and the mods missed a few spots by the looks of things. *runs!*

if you dont go to low sec and stay in an npc corp then you wont really be targetted as a newb - unless you attack other people or end up flying millions in slow or ill defended ship (in wich case you probably shouldnt be npc anymore)

Neilgor;
If you decide to stick with it, I also highly recommend looking up "Eve-University". They are a fantastically talented group of guys that exist to train new players how to fight PvP. Very effective in fleet operations. Very effective in training players. You want a good all around experience, they may be exactly what you are looking for.

Edited by: KnifeyMcShanker on 19/06/2007 04:09:54 Funny you should mention bullies on eve, some guy I recently kicked from corp has recently sent me 500+ copies of the same threatening email!
Luckily (lol), he bounced off proxies and there is no way for me to prove this, so the GMs can do nothing, there is no way for me to see his real email or IP since it has all been bounced off proxies.
Oh, and also, he's probably reading this and laughing.

tbh, I've found the players of this game tend to display far more sociopathic tendencies than any other playerbase I've come across. you basically have to expect the worst out of everyone you come across, which is definitley offputting to a lot of people.

I think that there is a vocal population of smacktards in eve but its not a majority I mean heimatar averages about 60+ people in most of its high sec systems, and between 6-60 in most of its low sec ones, you see MAYBE 1-12 ore thieves per hour in any given high sec mining system per day, 1-12 high sec ganks in high sec per day, and at least one smacked in each system a day (more if xxthaproducerxx is bored ) move down to the low sec and you get two different areas, the amamake sector which is rife with pirates and gatecamps, and eifer and area that has some general piracy but not the same pirate population. Now move next door to metropolis and the arse to carebear ratio gets alot less pleasant but it is still not a majority The main problem is the n00b corps and help chat are spammed to heck and back (cept for brutor tribe, all the old hats there are solid and will give you alot of good info) I can't speak for other regions but if you are looknig for a good start, come to heimatar and hook up with one of the many good player corps that share the area

Who cares about the characters age anyway? Its only worth checking when ransoming a pod. I'm posting with (what was and really still is) a noob alt for a reason. I hauled more than 100 million the first day I made this character. Flying a stabbed up frigate. And you wonder why us evil pirates blow up frigates?

Because you're paranoid? Haha just kidding. :)
To the OP, people who steel in EVE are called pirates but if you are defending your space or whatever like that, then you are a Warrior.
So if they just did it to get an easy kill or gank then they could be morons, if it was to steel then they were prites and if it was some other more nobile reason then they were Warriors.
Either way it is no so borring in low sec, so look at it that way.

neilgor, like others suggested - stick with Eve. It's worth it.
And yes it's always like this. Whenever there's the slightest chance to get killed you'll be lucky to survive.
And TBH there are no newbies, rookies, pros or veterans in EVE - only targets. That's the beauty of it.
