Has anyone found out how the new tutorial is activated?
I deleted an old character, created a new one and logged into the game to see the new improved tutorial. I expected to get the choice to start the new tutorial, the old tutorial or no tutorial. Instead I just sat in my pod in the space station, with no tutorial starting. Looking at the options, I saw that the tutorials were activated. Is this a bug, or did I do anything wrong? |

Thanks for the advice. I wrotea bug report and already received a reply, which I am not sure I understand completely. They say that what I saw was EXPECTED, but not why. Any ideas?
Hello merusalem, Thank you for your bugreport - ID:39183 Title: New improved tutorial does not start although "show tutorials" is activated The problem you have described as an intended game feature, and not a bug. Your bugreport has been closed.

I guess step 0 of the tutorial is to figure out how to start the tutorial?
Gotta try this tonight when I get home from work.

When you make a new char you have to select "start out in space" in the character creation process when you are choosing a name. That starts the new tutorial.

Thanks for the advice. I went through the character creation process again, but I have not seen such an option. Not during the face design, not before or after the name availability request, and not after I created the character.
May I ask on which screen you see it? Before the name check? After the name check? And where on the screen? I am probably just too dumb for this advanced UI technology... :) |

As far as I can remember - it's down the bottom right of the screen on that name checking screen, both before and after.
Best to check every screen though, in case I'm wrong.

Thanks for the advice - the button has not appeared in my last three attempts to create a character. I will try and create a petition, as a bug report was closed already (see above). Someone else seemingly had the same problem and got the advice on the foum to petition as stuck and ask for the flag to be reset.

The new tutorial only works for new accounts... works fine for trial accounts, but my main cant access it.

When I petitioned and asked to please reset the flag for my account, so that I could do the new tutorial, the answer from support was that CCP had decided to take out this option for old accounts. The reasoning was that they wanted to prevent the database from being additionally stressed with lots of people doing the new tutorial mini-instance.
My guess is that they will reactivate the choice once the number of users looking at the new Revelation II features have gone down again.
By the way...
I created a trial account to experience the new tutorial, and in case any of the experienced players is considering this, I would suggest doing something more fun instead, like watching ships dock at a random station. The new tutorial fixed a few of the problems of the old one - mainly by being shorter, by trying to not overload a new player's brain by explaining less EVE-specific complexities like switching ships, and above all by not relying on NPC pirates being at a place where any non-tutorial player could have eradicated them moments before the tutorial player arrived. Oh, and they removed the newbie griefing experience which was "blow up some tutorial rats and wait for a newbie to come along and get some stuff from my can". I also like the optionally selectable chain of specific tutorials to explain certain concepts later (market, ship fitting, etc.). All in all a better experience for new players than the old one.
