Yea got the missiles skills, but it dont matter since am jammed non stop. Logs show it was 45s from first hit to me managing to warp out at half armor. Thats over 10k of damage. The large extenders make me the size of a battleship but was hoping they would last long enough.
Not seen any other level 2 like it. the 8 cruisers/BC are right on top of you when you warp in so you cant get range and exchange heavy missiles either. The frigs are just an annoyance. Garistas are not EM damage so the shield should have held up well.
Yeah, don't fight any of the Recon missions if you're having trouble with them at all. ALso, drop a Large Shield Extender for a rat-specific amplifier. Remember, resistance is more important than HP. Keep telling yourself that. "Resistance is more important than HP. Resistance is more important than HP." You do reach a point where the amplifiers don't add as much to your resistance, so you put a Large Shield Extender or two on.
Leave off the Arbalest Assaults. They add to your mass and make you slower. (Plus they're expensive to lose if you do get popped.) Do just as your agent tells you. Fly to the point you need to fly to, then leave. Mission over. (Some people feel they need to shoot everything all the time, but you don't. Always read your mission, or you'll have a heck of a time on the destroy the Repair Station mission and the Case of Kidnapping (10 of 10) where a dozen battleships pound you at the end when you should be warping out.)
Easy as pie. If you're having trouble with the Recon missions, you may be flying them wrong. |

I don't know what you guys are on about. I have done this missions several times now in a rifter with an AB and a SAR II, no problem at all. It seriously takes some of you a tanked BC??

First, what level? The damage you take gets higher as you get to higher levels.
Second, some are talking about actually trying to fight their way through Recon 1 and/or 2, instead of just cruising through and leaving. |

Did you now? I somehow doubt you did. What's your setup? We're talking about the L4 here, for the most part at least.
Btw, a 1300m/s MAR II thorax can tank the damage, just barely, I doubt your SAR Rifter can. A 1600m/s LShieldBooster Thorax can do it faster still.
There's a couple EFT setups I've yet to try, because I haven't got the mission in a long time.
All T2, ship and nav skills at 4.
Vigil, 1600m/s, 5.3s align time, 61dps tank for the 22 seconds cap lasts, 2089hp Low: 2x OD, DCU Med: 1mn AB, Med shield Booster, EM amp
HP may not be enough, cap may not be enough. Speed increase over Thorax is there, but not stellar.
Punisher, 1800m/s, 20s align time, 53dps tank for 33seconds, 3350hp Low: 2xOD, DCU, RCU Med: Y-S8 AB, Med shield Booster
Little bit better hp, but much slower acceleration then the Vigil. Now, you could put a SAR there too, get a little bit better tank. But then you'd want an EANM to go with it, and so your speed drops to under 1600, with very little speed increase over the thorax.
Assault ships with oversized AB's could probably do it, but they are no faster then the Thorax. Not to mention Stabber can do it too, and is faster then Thorax. But I can't fly a Stabber.

I've just got given recon 1 of 3 (level 4)last night
Completed it by killing everything.
Will be doing 2 of 3 tonight - is it as hard or harder than 1 of 3
Obviously I will then do 3 of 3, would it be worth fitting the Drake with shield recharge II's in mids and SPR II's lows. Or just stick 2 x lse II, 2 x shield recharger II's adn 2 x IV field II's(or specific harnders) ? -----------------------------------------------

I just lost a dual MAR thorax to the last bit.. I was taking 3-4 waves of 90-100 damage and tanking over 500 then suddenly it spiked to 498 damage was the last I saw but it ripped through 1800 pts of armor and 1500 pts of structure. WTF? When you can't run, you crawl, and when you can't crawl - when you can't do that...You find someone to carry you. |

Was doing Lvl 3 Recon and wasn't aware you were supposed to breeze thru the first two parts. Took me ages to blow all of the rats out of the sky. Was flying a Drake, passive tank. Third part was dead easy. I didn't even see the damage on my shield, and it wasn't until I checked the combat log I saw I had been taking damage at all.

That's a bit odd. Hope you're not blaming me on account of suggesting the Thorax earlier I once lost a Rax there by initiating warp at the gate while still travelling at 600+m/s. It just kept aligning, for what seemed like forever, which I can understand given I was still going a bit too fast. But the odd bit is it would not respond to repeated crtl+spacebar commands. So after a bit it just blew up.
Still, done it successfully in a Rax many times.

I know there is still an acceleration gate inside the area and I want you to make sure it's still functioning and doesn't send you straight into a deadly cloud. It's a dangerous job, but I'm not paying you for garbage hauling now am I. Get to it and report back to me with your findings!"
Thats the mission text from L2. "It's a dangerous job" doesn't quite cover that you will randomly blow up in 15 seconds.
I went in in my new fully kitted out Omen cruiser (which I ought to be able to do L2 missions in), and despite my shield still being at about 25% and only minor damage to my armour i just got the message "Your ship goes out of control" and BOOM. Stupid, pointless, fun-sucking mission

All lvl 2 missions can be done in a Thrasher, including the recon series.
Just use an afterburner and small shield booster II for recon 3/3 and burn directly at the gate.

Lol, owned by a cloud. TBH, this mission is not hard, it really isnt. My advice you all you people that struggle with it, and any other mission, try reading up on any mission that you dont know before you attempt it. This way you will know exactly what to expect and can prepare appropriately.

The waves eventually go through a quick ramp where they go from a few hundred points of damage to several thousand. So you probably got hit by one of the 'you should be gone by now' waves... which it tries to give you a warning about first.
This is actually one of the better missions IMHO... it teaches that stubborn 'wait and kill' methods will not always work and no matter how bad ass you are, there are some fights you simply should run away from.
Learn to run, and this L2 mission can easily be done in a T1 frigate.

Im rather new so dont got the good skills yet. But my L2 mission ship is a caracal. I almost got killed a few times, so i gave up killing those ratts. As mission text stated you dont need to kill the ratts. So instead i jumped in a 25k isk Trasher and a T1 AB. Made it to gate and warped to next pocket with 50% damaged armor.
Was kind of annoyed i didnt do this right away :\

Once I spent 3 hours on Human Cattle 4/5, I switched to cruisers. Trasher is just not good enough.
I did Recon all parts with Rupture, and although I armour tanked, I actually lost shields only when I tried to fight in 2/3. In 1/3 AB got me enough range so that the rats (11 cruisers and 3 destroyers for me, might be wrong though :)) could barely hit me. I killed the destroyers with arty turrets at 45 km range (alpha strike with 4 turrets), but since I had like 3 seconds of target every minute due to the sensor dampening cruiser in the group, I decided to just run the the gate. In 3/3 I managed to get out with 40ish shield.
My advice is, get AB and cruiser (cloud starts at 80 and increases by 10 every time it damages you, ignoring resistances) and just run.

A 2x OD, T2 AB Atron does not go 8800 m/s, nor does it need a cap injector. You also cannot fit a T2 10mn AB on it without 2x mapc, and even then without rigs you can't fit your injector. And even if you could, it still wouldn't go 8800m/s.

Edited by: MenanceWhite on 05/01/2008 16:57:10 I've both done the amarrlv2 one and the caldari lv2 one, both in a destroyer with 1SAR, some nanofiber and an oversized AB. No problems on both (just remember to deactivate the ab before using the last warp)
and both gave more reward than what the op wrote. Might be some bug, or the op is whiney and overdoing it.

I just did this mission on lvl 4(my first level 4s BTW) and had no trouble. Was in a slow as heck Apoc, dual LARs and of course hardeners. Seeing as how I was so slow, the gas cloud had actually stabilized before I finished it. So I warped out with 20% shield or something. Very easy.

Just did the missions for a lev 2 agent.
In my opinion a fun trio of missions that cost me a shuttle and an executioner, well worth it tho.
First and second are easy even in a shuttle as you really dont have to fight, lost my shuttle here as I first tried to fight with the rats and thus when I tried to simply run past I didnt make it with a caldari shuttle (minmatar one worked fine tho).
The executioner was lost in 3 of 3. I started out with the Minnie shuttle but took a great deal of dam so I figured an executioner with an AB should do it. I hit 1000m/s and *pop* I was in my pod. I really hope CCP have put in ship velocity in the dam calculation, that would be fun.
Going there in a cruiser however and I barely got scratched. On an interesting sidenote however, it seems the damage gets progressivelly higher as you spend more time in the cloud, I dont know if this is a fact but I got hit with more and more damage for each additional hit. Started out at 30 and progressed to 80 if this increased dam is true then I must say its a great idea :)

Level 4 Recon 3of3 works this way.
Every 20 Seconds you get a wave that deals an increse of damage, on the last final wave 2000 DMG on Each Resistance.
So assuming you have 80% resist on EM/thermic/kinetic/explosive, you get 400+400+400+400 dmg in a second on the last wave.
I believe the only ships that can have a deal with a pretty safe fly are BC-BS and prolly HAC (with a plate/extender equipped).

Number one rule in combat in this game and real life is, complete your mission as fast as possible with as little damage as possible. Recon (1 of 3) says don't fight the rats just jump the the gate. you get paid the same. I did it in a shuttle they could hardly hit me but they did steal all my cap. (2 of 3) same thing, fly to gate, if they bother you jump. I did it in my shuttle was in warp before they could lock. got paid the same.(3 of 3)LMAO shuttle lasted half way to the gate then poof. jumped out, fit my Ferox with high EM resistance. got maybe 20% damage then went home. oh and 2000 isk insurance for the shuttle that I built. lol

Jumped at the L2 variant without reading the description in my Vexor. After getting blown up once and then trying to make a run for it multiple times in my shuttle, I've called my corpmates for help. We were doing 9-11 damage, but cleared it without further loss.
I did 2/3 and 3/3 both in an Incursus fitted with two overdrives and AB.

Looks like you have a damage type hole. Omni tank is recommended in part 3. Replace all damage mods if you need more slots.

This is my first days doing level twos. I needed a friend to help me with my first ever level 2 mission, recon part 1 (I know I can just run the gauntlet now but didn't at the time). The second one wasn't so bad, and then I get this mission that without warning and with a 26k isk reward throws an instant spike of almost 3k damage at me. I can do level ones for the same isk, and not have my vexor one shotted while at almost full armor and full structure. I didn't realize the game put in little surprises like this as traps to destroy the livelyhoods of new players, but lesson learned.
