Originally by: Zajo I think it is an awesome thing you are trying to do Eris. I am sure most, if not all, females attending would be happy just the way it is. However we all really appriciate the effort of making it more fun. Looking even more forward to November now.
In addition regarding the responses, it sadens me to see how imature this comunity has become over the last year or two.
see, this is what men are like when there is no women around, they only act mature irl, they arent really, only pretend.
because we're on the internet, we can act however we want ![Wink](/images/icon_wink.gif)
also, sounds fun ![Laughing](/images/icon_lol.gif)

Sounds cool, good luck!
But yeah, take the girls somewhere fun, so they don't have to suffer through a bunch of nerds drooling over them all the time, that is unless they enjoy that...
Next years Fanfest should have even more, that's what WIS is for right ![Wink](/images/icon_wink.gif) Building the homestead

Being a female gamer means that a certain amount of grief and harassment is inevitable. Logging onto a corp's teamspeak/vent server that you are interested in joining, finding a bunch of guys with varying levels of maturity and respect for women is a real eye opener. If every woman that played eve (or tried to and quit) had an ISK for every time she starts getting hit on after making her voice heard on a voice server...
Uncomfortable experiences that border on sexual harassment do make female players wary of attending a fanfest for *any* online game. That being said, not all men in this game deserve being jettisoned out of the nearest air lock![Razz](/images/icon_razz.gif)
I'm going to venture a guess Eris is putting events together for the female eve players so we don't feel like we are being gate camped by a blob of hormone raging men at the fanfest Just have a code of conduct drafted for the fanfest that is understood by all the attendees so everyone feels safe and welcome. We just want to know that concord will be there help us pod any harassers ![Twisted Evil](/images/icon_twisted.gif)
As for activities catered to women players of eve, I'd love to attend a discussion of what female devs+players think this game is missing (and no im not talking about coloring my Caracal pink). Any details on what you are thinking of planning would be great ![Cool](/images/icon_cool.gif)
Personally I don't know if I can make it to the fanfest, I work in the game industry myself and the fanfest falls around the time projects tend are close to finishing up right before christmas I still have hope I can attend though!

As far as I know there are no plans to hire girls to say they play EVE, we just want to the girls that do play EVE to know that they are welcome by all of CCP, especially by all the girls working for CCP.
From the comments here it looks like some of you are volunteering to wrestle eachother in mud and bikini. You do realise its a bit cold in November he?

Originally by: Red Six You have my sympathy Eris. I know what you are trying to accomplish and I wish you the best. It's going to be a real pain to pull off and win the trust of the women out there.
While I realize that most of the posters here are responding in a tongue-in-cheek manner. I see that things haven't changed since I started online gaming back in the Quake 2 days. Anytime anyone purported to be female, the unwashed minions would either hit on very blatantly and stupidly or make crude remarks about women in general or specifically at that woman. You'd think we'd be past that 12 years into the online world but I guess not. Instead the second player post is calling for a bikini contest. :(
My wife is a gamer, has been for as long as we've known each other which is about 15 years now, married 13. She plays COH and WoW. (She doesn't want to play Eve to complicated she says. Truth is she's a cuddly carebear. <3) She gets harrassed in games that are more friendly to women than anything out there. The level of misogny in those women friendly communities is bad but it's not nearly as bad as it is here. Then again the level of maturity shown on these forums by all parties, players and devs, at times reminds me of the stereotypical "Animal House" fraternity.
Anyhow, enough old man grumping from me. Here's to the hope that some more maturity shows up and that your event at the gathering for the women of Eve goes well.
Dude, you need to seriously relax. Besides, how can you be in BoB and have any life outside the game? Gamers will always be immature unwashed bubbleheads and that is a fact of life. Get used to it.
Once NOL has been purged with cleansing fire, and all the vassals are put to the sword, I'm sure we'll have a lovely little cold war, your bloc and ours.

If anyone, female or male, feels uncomfortable with attention being paid to them by any of the Fanfest attendees, we will have (as we have at the past three events) security on-site. You can tell security, any of the Developers or ISD staff; the situation will be looked into and resolved.
Having said that, I have yet to hear of any instances where a player continued to be the subject of unwanted attention after having expressed feelings about the attention. That is one outstanding trait of the EVE community, there might be a lot of smack talk on the forums or in-game, but you are all a polite and well-mannered bunch when meeting in person.

I'm glad something is being done for the women that Attend. I attended last year and if it wasn't for a few guys that took me under their wing and spending a day traveling in the country, I would have been bored out of my mind. I purposely chose not to attend this year due to that. The whole place just reeked of "GUY THING"!. It didnt help that one of the Devs said in a speech with about 1000 people in the room that "Girls don't like to blow things up". Ooooookay buddy. What ever you say man. That was my first and probably last EVE Fanfest attendence. Its bad enough that you feel out of place in such an event as a woman, but for a dev to say that only added to the exclusion. I am glad to see CCP making some efforts to be more "sensitive" to ALL their players.
Have fun!

It does I guess, but Kieron do have a point. I where at the fanfest last year. I guess there where around 600 players there! And even if there where solid drinking and lots of laugher under the roof, I did not see anything that can come close to harassments! Well... the devs might have gotten a little tired though since I where running all around with my beer and poster nagging the devs to sign it ![Twisted Evil](/images/icon_twisted.gif)
I guess the reason is most of the players who do play EVE have grown up, and left their teenage hormones somewhere in a locked drawer in their basement at home. Because what I saw where "good guys" having a cold beer with the "bad guys". The tone where easy and relaxed and everyone who was present had a good time! That is why I am going back this year!
