Anyone like playing in windowed mode?
I find video stutters just a little.
Opinions? Just curious...

always, for me. I'm normally chatting with a few friends at the same time, browsing these forums, and myspace. I hate alt-tab.

I have a Dell I6400 (soon to be an Alienware midrange machine w00!). It has an ATI X1400 onboard. Running Windows Vista, 2gb RAM, internal 7200rpm drive (SATA) on Broadband (generally T1 or E1).
I can play up to two clients at a time without too much trouble in Windowed mode. It sutters. A lot. I get like 10-15fps type of thing out of both windows.
If I fly out to a POS where they have a huge shield to render, it slows down. A lot.
It's still playable though. I'm glad the video display does not contribute to the lag. Still it can be annoying to watch the rendering slow down quite a bit. I wish they had a way to turn off effects (more than what are there) like they have on BF2/2142 style games.

I definitly like being able to surf / chat as well.
Um...You can have 2 clients running? I'm still a newb (1.5 months), could you elaborate?
Thanks.

Official CCP supported method.
1. Launch Eve, type user/pass and login 2. Go back to desktop, Launch Eve again, type the other user/pass and login again.
Wash. Rinse. Repeat.
Unofficial Method, use Eve Launcher...Google it.
I have two clients running most of the time. Only way to mine/haul ;-)

21" CRT, 1600x1200 desktop resolution, EVE runs in windowed mode 1600x900.
Duron 1100 (yes, that's what I have), 1 GB RAM, ATI 9550 (that's more or less the same as GeForce FX 5200).
Playable. I run L4s on it (can get as low as 1 FPS, usually around 5 FPS). Passive tanking FTW. Normal conditions (empire travel), about 10-15 FPS. Docked, about 30 FPS (yes, environment loaded).
What's weird is that I can no longer select 1600x900 windowed mode from the graphical dropdown menu, even if the old settings (from back when I COULD select it) were kept so far. _ New char creation guide | Module/Rig stacknerfing explained |

I only play in windowed mode. I don't understand how you can play in full screen. I like to have IM, Vent, browser, and a couple other things up and running in the background.
Windowed mode works fine for me. Although since this REV 2.0 patch, other windows and the desktop get a little jerky when Eve is minimized. I assume it will be fixed soon enough.

1) Run Eve in windowed mode, set your resolution to the same as your desktop resolution.
2) Start Eve-mon and select 'Relocate windowed Eve to fill a monitor' under options->general tab.
3) Restart Eve (or alt-tab a few times may sort it)
Eve runs windowed, but the window is relocated so that it looks and feels like it is running Fullscreen. Eve is one of those strange games that runs better windowed, and you also get the added bonus of being able to instantly alt tab without Windows taking 5 minutes to think about taking the game out of fulscreen mode.

Running 3 accounts at the same time in windowed@1280x960 with screen resolution being 1280x1024, so that I can have the windows taskbar visible for easier switching between stuff.
All are running just fine, with an average of 40fps. During larger mission complexes, the framerate rarely drops below 30fps...

I almost never play in windowed mode. I really hate it, it ruins the "immersion" factor for me. But to each their own. I will sometimes switch to it if I have to do something else with the computer while playing Eve, but I much prefer fullscreen, it just makes the game much more enjoyable.

windowed mode here too, but with a nifty little window resize prog that one of my mates wrote that removes edges. handles like windowed (alt-tab alot smoother, more stable for me anyway) looks like fullscreen. no real difference graphics-wise...

EVE is one of the better games that runs a window mode. Most other games (MMO or not) seem to drastically downgrade their look and feel when switching to a window mode.
That being said, I almost NEVER run in window mode. I like the big screen (20.1 LCD) look of EVE. I also have a laptop that sits next to my EVE Desktop, so I TS2, surf, chat, etc on that instead.
The only issue I have with that is when one of my buddies posts an OOGB linky. If the link is short, I can type it into my laptop. If it's not short, I usually end up copying it into a notepad document and saving it to a shared folder so I can access it from my laptop anyway.

Actually the reason, why I play mostly in window mode, although the window fills the whole screen anyway and I use alt-tab. The switch between browser and one or more clients happens just instantly in window mode and there is no delay with getting mouse control. In fullscreen mode it takes a bit to switch and then another few seconds to get mouse control back.

Edited by: shaiDorsai on 24/06/2007 03:23:38 Depends on the activity.
When PvE, mining, definitely full screen for game immersion effects.
When using market tabs, ind/sci tabs, windows because I need access to other applications in order to be effective (the in-game calculator and notepad just doesn't cut it unfortunately).

I play in windowed mode all the time except in laggy battles. Eve has WAY too many boring moments for me to do otherwise.
