Would you guys for once get the time right, that would be 3:30am GMT, CLOCKS HAVE CHANGED.
the servers maybe in London? But CCP is in Iceland which I think donĘt have the time change so still operate in normal GMT which is still an hour behind the UK time
A pain i know but its easier for players world wide to work out the time by general GMT then the UK time.

Come on guys. Give them a break! Points of note:
*They have most likley called in half a dozen technichians after midnight to fix the problem *They run the largest game server in the Universe (or is that EVE universe) *They have lives and familys too! *A major update has been executed, along with hardware upgrade, problems are to be expected
There is only one thing that I would like to see happen, and thats a little better communication from CCP, but in my experience they are not doing to bad

no, GMT time never changes....
Well then, since the servers are in the UK, announce that its going to start at 3:30BST! Therefore that would be relevant since we are now in BST and no longer GMT |

Let's say... 50 cents everytime there is a screw-up.
50 cents * X thousand players = a lot of money.
So, we know CCP will never reimburse anything (as they offer us with "bug fixes".. i mean, "free expansions"), but someone with a brain should think about this sum and INVEST it in order to prevent these... "technical mambo jambos".

All that is true, however, the issue lies in the fact that we pay to play. Don't charge for something that isn't working properly.

Go, Microsoft SQL, go.
Go down, of course.
Actually according to TPCC, the official database testing source (and they don't care who gets the top slot) Microsoft ranks pretty high in price/performance.
In addition, with a SQL cluster, it isn't likely to crash due to hardware issues. Most likely, it is a coding issue which is impossible to easily detect until the system comes under load. You can even use load testing software but nothing emulates the chaotic systems called human beings. ------ This space for rent. |

If ccp didnt know what they were doing thye wouldnt hav gotern anywhere near this far. i bet they hav the best minds working on the databases already, and prolly are leading the way in some areas.

Amazing that more people are not familiar with GMT time. It is also referred to as 'Zulu' time. It does not change and is a standard used by several private corporations, public organizations, and military units worldwide. It is easier to use a standard so that the entire time zone thing does not matter. It is what it is and ...wait for it... when it is!

Again, tpcc indicates that Microsoft SQL is one of the best database systems out there. See this link.
In addition, I'm sure they have some of the brightest minds on the planet working on this system. Still, it isn't possible to emulate 30,000 real players in software yet.
I challenge you to try to build a system like Eve Online and make it 100% stable and bug free. Even WoW goes down. Even Ebay goes down. Even Myspace goes down.
Stuff breaks. At least now they have engineers on site and fixing it. ------ This space for rent. |
