Mwahaha, and it keeps going longer. Good thing I've got a long skill training. Ah well, that's the price you pay for having a non-sharded universe. Now it's at 3:25gmt.
Damn, and I was "hoping" to mine for a few hours.

Wow, some of you have obviously never dealt with bad customer service or lousey systems, or you just cant please everyone all the time I guess.
This game has had one of the best system availability records I have ever experienced and pardon a few issues with a new release. Having played WOW, SWG, EQII all in betas, stress testing and in final releases I can say with certainty that in my experience this game and it's support teams rock pretty good when the need arises for the masses.
Give the complaints a rest (you no-lifers) go outside while the servers are down for this brief moment in time, give the mouse a rest and feed it, clean up the soda and hotpocket mess in your bed rooms. Guys, you DO know what "Estimated" means, right? It means that we can't count on it to be accurate, especially to the second. I don't like this anymore than anyone else, but it's important to remember that "estimated" does not mean "guaranteed". It's a little hard to get mad at them for estimating inaccurately. ----------- "Voila! Everyone knows that when huge patches are put up, there are going to be problems. Just accept it. At least CCP gets on the problems fast and sorts them out in a reasonable amount of time.

Oh do please shut up. We have every right to complain and vent our frustrations in a thread whose topic is DOWNTIME, as the frequency of downtime recently has been exceptional if it is as a SIDENOTE to information. It's called "giving your two cents" and there's nothing in your precious EULA that outlaws it.
And yes we know what the EULA says - the fact is that it doesn't mean jack sh*t if paying customers start leaving because of crappy service.

I'll second that one... I've seen MMOs who wait days, or even weeks, before admitting there IS a problem, let alone getting off their butts and fixing it. ----------- "Voila! In view, a humble vaudevillian veteran, cast vicariously as both victim and villain by the vicissitudes of Fate." |

I hear ya... 2 hour mission with a rather large collateral on mine. But you know what? It's a game. That's my mantra, what I keep repeating to myself to avoid throwing a fit (or throwing my computer out the 3rd story window). It's a game. ----------- "Voila! It's a shame, I was going to buy a 3 month subscription, guess I better wait a while
*EDIT* You know, if CCP invested in two servers, not only would it cut the load in half, but players could play on another server while potential problems like this are fixed. Well, then again, in MMOs usually you have to pay to switch your character anyways. Probably wouldn't help in times like this.
Actually Eve is run on a server cluster that consists of many servers and there is the test server. You could spend some time there while they fix the problem.
After a patch it's impossible to fix all the issues because the 300 people that show up on the test server aren't enough to cause the problems and thus the problems don't appear there.

They did invest in three servers actually, Tranquility, Singularity and Multiplicity. Okay... two test servers, but do you really think it feasable to move every bit of information in one database to the other the second the main server goes down? The next thing you get is "The ore I've mined in the last five minutes hasn't been copied to the backup-server!" and hundreds of other BS threads like that. Getting a backup server up and running would take too much time away from fixing the problem anyway, not too mention they could copy the problem from the main server to the backup server and waste even more time that way.
Well, that's not exactly what I meant. Like someone mentioned above, they could balance the world on different clusters. It would be a bit too much trouble to move everyone to the backup server. I was just saying, create a server similar to Tranquility, and allow characters to switch to it keeping their ISK, location, ship and cargo similar to switching between servers with a character in Battlefield 2... all your information is saved. Maybe limit the switching to once every week?
The problem with that would be that it would evolve differently than the Tranquility server... but to be honest, I'd rather have 2 servers to choose between even if one has to start from anew. I mean one server supporting 25,000+ players? Maybe they use several machines as "one server" but I mean that's a bit rediculous.

Hehehehe one server? No, dear... Just because there's one PLAY server does not mean there is one PHYSICAL server.

Yeah, check my post #51, i mentioned breifly it's probably not run on one physical server, I realize that.
But the servers all have to update data with each other, and I've experienced lag bad enough during times that it takes over 2 seconds for a command to be recognized. I'm saying make an individual "play" server cluster isolated from Tranquility... So if the whole cluster goes down, there will be somewhere else to play. And the cluster won't have to update rediculous astronomical amounts of information with each other due to near 30,000 players.

As far as Im concerned, when there is a big patch I cannot say that im suprised if there is downtime following its release. However we have had a number of server issues lately, and also they have been before the expansion. I never ever moan on the forums but I have to say that I "along with many other players" am fed up with this. I settle down to unwind and play eve and then due to tech reasons I cant. tbh I think I wouldnt be as ****ed off if CCP would just let us know whats going on posted on the E-O homepage, not too much to ask is it?
Also Futher Bezluden, You say that CCP gets onto the problems fast blah blah blah, it spoils a whole night gaming for me when it goes down and I am still paying for it.

LOL dont know what server you were playing on but I personally have received 2-3 months of credits to my game account due to down time. Also lets compare apples to apples here, WOW was a much larger game and player base with hundreds of thousands players and hundreds of servers. A well known fact that WOW and SWG have had multiple days where servers have been down and have had to accomodate mass character moves to less popular servers. If you were on one of those servers then yes the entire game was down for you until you created another character on another server or the engineers got it working again.
