Hello all,
A member of my corp resently did some business with a person by the name of Elora Narst. The deal was 62 mil. for two myrmidons which Elora put into a freeform contract.
http://dl.eve-files.com/media/0706/New_Bitmap_Image(1).bmp
When it was all said and done my corp mate was out 62 mil. with no myrmidons to show for it. Any ideas of what happened? Was this some sort of exploit?
Also this person has a 1 mil. cspa charge

No, look at reward, it says none, the desciption can say he's selling you CCP's children, still doesn't mean you'll get them.

So the words, offered items, under description by user means nothing?

Yup, it only says offered items because he typed it in. No scam. Moral of the story, stay away from free form contracts like the Jovian disease.

It's not an exploit..he's just pushing the game limitations. You are free to type in any sort of description in that box, including item links and coloured text, and he made it look like it was a normal 'see what you get' box.

It is most certainly a scam. Don't ever accept freeform contracts unless you are very sure of what you do. I'd try petitioning it because I doubt CCP intended it to be used in this way (even though they do not disallow scamming). Private auctions got used for scamming purposes and got removed. People who got struck by it were most likely not reimbursed though.
The name of the scammer is vagely similar to Dentara Rast, a well known scammer. Maybe he is back in business or it's a wannabe.
Sorry for you loss!

Also remove all jetcans to disallow ore stealing, and gate bubbles to stop things being unfair to haulers, and remove guns too 'cause people shouldn't die
So yeah, i have a problem with being serious, but it's the almost smallest problem i have. |

Yes it does, but you failed to grasp it.
If we're gonna remove things from game just because people fall victims to obvious scams, that they don't even ask ingame if they might be a scam, then we should remove half the things in the game.
Remove jetcans or make them unopenable to other players so miners are happy. Remove bubbles so haulers are happy. Remove guns so people who don't want to fight are happy. etc..etc...etc.
So yeah, i have a problem with being serious, but it's the almost smallest problem i have. |

Freeform has no use that other contracts can't solve. Jetcans have there use, as do bubbles. Another players ability to steal from a jetcan is a risk a miner takes for not using a secure container.

JEtcans as such(with their 27k space) has no use secure containers couldn't solve. Bubbles isn't something another disruptor couldn't solve. See where this is going?
Just because you fell victim(or your "friend"), doesn't mean a game mechanic should be removed.
I'm sure there are uses for free form contracting, if nothing else, sell away useless stuff.

But these things are already fixed, contract scamming is not.

Concord boosted so non-consentual PvP in high sec is now not a viable tactic.
I think you fail to grasp that bugs in the game should not allow for scamming. If it is done cleverly and not involving abusing broken game mechanics, knock yourself out.
This is not such a case.

I didn't fail to grasp anything.
There's nothing broken about it.
If i come to your door and say "Hay! Buy this pig in a bag!" and hold up a bag, and you buy it, i run, you open and see there's noly rocks. It's a legitimate scam.
So what's buggy or broken in it?
The examples i used with bubbles and jetcans wasn't suppposed to be taken so rectally.

Because scams like this are allowed by CCP.
To be honest it looks like a scam, somebody with 62 million isk should have been paying better attention to what was going on.

Well if for nothing else, since scams are a part of the EVE universe, there's reason enough to keep it.
Actually scamming and other nonfighting criminal profession stuff should be added, not removed.
I've never scammed anyone of anything, and i doubt i will, but it's a profession as much as ore thieving and other criminal behaviour.

Greed makes the scamming world go round.
If a deal irl looks to good to be true, it probably is. If a deal in eve looks to good to be true, it probably is.
Huh... funny that.
But why should our apparent natural reaction be, "CCP!! Hold our hands!!"
That's what always gets me. "I was ganked in highsec, CCP FIX IT!" or "Somebody scammed meh! CCP FIX IT!".
Why should it be fixed? Oh, I'm sure we'll get the usual doom-sayers in here predicting the death of Eve if things aren't all nice and pillowy soft for the noobs (it's always "the noobs" pulling at our heart strings).
To me, these sorts of things are what comprise the Difficulty Level of Eve. It is definately not something to be "fixed". You are playing on Hard Mode, like it or not, because you go head to head against your fellow players for much of your game interactions. NPCs don't provide any sort of challenge in comparison.
Player provided content is far greater than anything AI when it comes to challenges. This trend of wanting things locked down when it comes to possible player interactions is what will kill Eve.
Get one thing straight, Eve CAN NOT compete with WoW. Eve is a joke compared to WoW when it comes to WoW sorts of games. WoW is so rich in it's level of NPC provided content that Eve looks like some garage project in comparison.
So CCP shouldn't even try to compete in that category. What sets Eve apart is the very high level of player provided content. WoW is a joke compared to Eve in that category. Apples and oranges.
So, as players come from these other sorts of games, where they are used to being buffered from other players efforts to interact with them, they are often shocked that other players are able to "grief" them. And again, the thinking is off imo. The term "grief" or "griefing" very rarely is applicable to Eve.
It's competition and that's it. You play smart or you lose out. You are careful about things or you get taken advantage of. That's the nature of Eve and is, at it's core, what attracted me and many others to this game in the first place.
"Fixing" it should be very carefully considered, not a knee-jerk reaction. This continueing trend of chipping away at the possible ways players can interact is slowly moving Eve towards the WoW category where it simply does not belong.
Of course things like the lag induced trading scam should be fixed. But the more subtle things, like this one... it's very debateable whether or not that should be "fixed".
Very often it is not the game that needs to change, it's the way players think and react to in-game challenges that needs changing.
Eve lives and breathes on player interactions. Don't be so hasty in limiting that.

Ok fristly NEVER accept freeform. Secondly NEVER EVER accept freeforms that say
Quote: Myrmidon x2 (Item Exchange) (Freeform)
That just shouts scam... personally i'm amazed that there are still people who accep freeforms... some scammer wanted to rip me off when the contract system was totally new but luckely i looked at the title and saw "(Item Exchange) (Freeform)" and that made me question the integrity of the seller.
well i'm sorry for your corpmate for loosing the 60 mil... but on the other hand he's learnt not to trust ppl in eve and that lesson is worth 60 mil any day.
