That officer violated alot of rules in that video. I certainly hope those kids got out of it.
As for the being arrested for skateboarding who knows.

Skating is prohibited in some places by local laws. That's posible. But I would have used a taser

Yeah I know it's illegal in downtown here which is why the city built skate parks. And use of force is allowed to counter use of force so unfortunatly a taser in this situation would probably be a bad idea and mace would have been better in the part where he grabbed the girl by the neck and threw her. My point on the officer was that it looked to me like he use excessive force. On the same note the skaters weren't exactly complying with the rules.

Question is how long have they been abusing that officer before they decided to tape it. Not saying what the cop did was right but there are always two sides to every story.

There are many safer places on a persons body to do a body hold than a choke hold around a persons neck. The police officer was obviously no in control of the situation, and resorted to physical confrontation instead of verbal.
The one scene where he has both kids around the neck is excessive force, there was a second officer there who he could have gotten to help control the young girl, but instead he wrenches back to get them both off balance. He is clearly not in control.
The kid who stopped the officer from restraining the girl is at fault, as is the one who took off down the other side of the street. The one with the camera was neither aiding or taking part in criminal activity, but it is clearly seen that the officer arrests him as well.

I don't know where you come from but where I come from it's illegal to film or take pictures of policemen, doormen, etc without their consent.
And as someone already said there are [usually] 2 sides to every story and the video is obviously very biased.
I'd guess the skaterkids were released the second someone else knew how badly those 2 cops handled the arrests, hence this video fell into the hands of the skaters instead of being taken by the cops.
If the 2 fat guys didn't have clothes clearly marked as police I wouldn't have believed they -were- cops because only a complete idiot would say stuff like "no you don't need that cos you're goin' to jail" and "or i'll spray ya" to a kid who's handcuffed on the ground.

Yeah that Cop is well, clearly not suited for a job like this. He needs angermangement:P
I have had a few run ins with the police on my inliner skates. In my contry the are by law to be run on as a pedestrian, so I have to stick to the same strib the ppl walk on. So I have once been told by the Cops to get out on the road mainly because i was going faster than most bicycles - nice of them really:) Abandon all hope But take care of teh cake!11 - Immy |

Where I come from, they are servants of the Crown (Canada) and any video or photos taken of an arrest should be my right as a citizen so long as I do not interfere with the arrest and submit my recordings to the proper authorities. Now if the kid was up in the police officers face getting in the way, then he should be dealt with accordingly.

Cultures differ, and I like mine better... Where I live the cops would probably just confiscate their skateboards and have them pick them up at the station later, or something like that. There are dozens of better ways to deal with thisthan what the cop shows in the video.

Cops didn't really do anything wrong. The kids weren't hurt, and the were definatly resisting arrest.
I've seen much worse videos were the cops were actually cleared because of the video.

Nothing wrong with it. They even say in the video description that they didn't film all of it, as well as certain parts being cut out, so they obviously do not show the entire story. As for the officer using force to restrain them, the kids were getting in the way of the first arrest, as well as running from the officer when told to stay put. I hope those kids didn't get out of it, the officer was doing his job just fine.
Just goes to show how pathetic todays youth have become...

He put a 13 y/o child in a choke hold, under normal conditions, he could have pinned her with one hand, but he decided that he wanted to put all of them in restraints. His comments about them attempting to flee are ridiculous, they stood around him while he handcuffed their buddy (well, not the little **** who took off across the street).
Excessive is the only word to describe what was on that video, IMHO.

I'm pretty sure more than one attempted to flee from the officer, and I do believe that's called resisting arrest.

skateboarding is a crime. you wouldn't stab a baby in the throat with a screwdriver, what makes them think they should be allowed to roll about on a piece of wood?!
hardened criminals like those skateboarders need a sense of perspective. i'd have gone Chris Benoit on their asses.

Well skateboarding is illegal, but on the other hand its a ticket offence, its like a speeding ticket, the officer stops you and says "Son you know why i stopped you, there is no skateboarding on the sidewalk, here is your ticket"
Hell if i was the officer i would have just given him a warning. ------------- Hadean Drive Yards The EvE inflation, 80 Macro miners, 1.5b isk/day |

The only downside to this comment is that it only takes a couple a badn's to make the whole flock look bad. I'm in the same boat with my paintballing. Some idiots decide to leave their trash at the only designated outdoor paintball field here and we're branded. Now hikers, bicyclists, and frisbee golfers come right through the course and we have to watch our behavior or they scream bloody murder to the cops cause of us miscreants.

Here is a news report on the situation with a statement from one of the bystanders.
News Report
Quote: Downtown Hot Springs storeowner Bobbie Golden says what you don't see on the tape is the girl skater at one point jumping on the officers back while another was trying to pull the officerĘs arm off their friend.
Remember skateboarding is not a crime but its usually against the rules to ride skateboards, roller skates, and bikes in high traffic pedestrian areas.
The biggest problem is we don't see what led up to the incident
