Edited by: Fresh Prinz on 30/06/2007 06:13:41 ok, we all know about the lag issues Eve generaly has and the fact that people can stay logged in from Downtime to Downtime.
Now If CCP implimented autolog out after a period of time Eve Online lag would reduce considerably because there will be less "left online" people online.
simple solution for a simple problem?

I see no problem with this providing the time is set to around the hour mark or so. ------------------------ Blink and you're dead ------------------------ Going to Jita is like poking someone with a stick and then crying when they punch you back. |

I'm still surprised there isn't a decent AFK logout timer. Most threads ask for 10 minutes though, which is too short. 1/2 hour would be a practical minimum I would think....
Of course someone would probably just write a &%&^% macro to keep the client online though <-----------> Factional Warfare:

Seems kinda pointless, I'd take about 5 minutes to rig up something to defeat this.
Also it only addresses the Jita style lag and even then it's debatable how much, it's hard to say for sure without access to the sort of info CCP has, but odds are good that just being connected creates hardly any lag at all, even in places like Jita, sitting idle in a station you don't create any additional work for the server, sure you create a little more network load, but that doesn't seem to be the core issue, node CPU seems to be the main issue.

people complain about lag, here is a potential solution to some, not all of the problem.. again i ask why argue against something that is simply logical >.>

Edited by: Tivookz on 30/06/2007 07:14:09 This will only bother us, the real players in the long run because the ppl who are macro mining or whatever will soon find a program that prevents them from going afk because it's not like they have 50 mil sp chars on those accounts who they aren't willing to risk.
A program like that is very simple and is already available to WoW and other mmo's.
NOT signed however a feature like this would be useful in Jita for example but ONLY in Jita as it wouldn't hurt anybody, nobody is mining in Jita and would only ease up on the docked characters.

It won't work. Using something like the Logitech G15 Gaming Keyboard -which CCP explicately approves of- you can programs macros that would prevent you from appearing AFK.
Furthermore, people who aren't actively playing don't contribute much if anything to lag. Ever notice that you can sit in active for hours without a problem but as soon as you give a command the game closes and says it lost the connection? It lost the connections hours before but when it's idle it transmits very little data. The lag created by AFK players should be minimal.

If this gets implemented, I want an option to disable it. Cause I need it to camp the 0.0 carebears that log out/run whenever I enter system. If I stay AFK entire day in their system they get used to it and actually come out to play.

Quoted for lies.
For each new person in Jita the server has to send and update the local chat for each and everyone anyway, no matter if you're afk or not.
And if you're afk in space you're still sending positional data to the server, yes, afker's create load.

ok how about this leave station and POS ships alone but cloaked ships in space should vanish after 1 hour of the user doing nothing. Ie no new data coming over. Um otherwise seems fine its al lthe mission runners and trade orders ( NPC on missions) that creates extra loads

i really don't get it.. why are you all arguing against this?
if you're afk for ages... you're not playing.. so why would you want to stay logged in.
I have countless nights where i've gone to bed and stayed logged in and i'm pretty sure everyone else does it.
Also, you'e telling me that 30000 players connected to a server is guna cause the same lag/juttering/JITA! as 1 person logged in?
No it bloody well isn't.. it causes the server to have to deal with more connections.
Stop arguing against something that is guna help damn it.. u people don't know what u want lol.
