Edited by: Cyno Dog on 30/06/2007 08:33:53 I dont know if this is a scam attempt or if its real. At any rate I never "log in" after following a link in a mail since the "log in" page can be a copy and the ppl behind it scammers trying to get my PW.

looks like a scam, don't see why CCP would want your login details just for petition feedback.

From my experience it is a CCP mail, but I ust admit that every time I get one of those I go to the EVE-O forum and use the my petition bar, not the link provided.
It will cost nothing more in time and is safer.

Yup i got three of these as well, I just assumed that something at CCP had a hiccup and spammed me by mistake, fortunately I just ignored it, your paranoia is obviously an asset.
Though I did think it was odd considering I got three mails and have only ever made 2 pertitions.

iirc you do receive such mails after petitions has been closed. Should be fairly easy to verify by looking at where the link goes.
And how did they end up with your email, I doubt the chinese spammers randomly send out EVE-Online petition survey mails to people unless they know they do play EVE.

Get your facts straight.
It took me all of ten seconds to find that website. Perhaps you'd care to post a correction. Throw in some stupid comment about hamburger eating spammers perhaps?
Intriguing that the UK is at the bottom of that short table. Maybe we're too thick to work out how to send spam. Or perhaps it's our natural reserve that makes communicating with strangers so difficult -- (Battle hardened industrialist)

Edited by: Adonis 4174 on 30/06/2007 09:54:58 As for Nigeria, in 2004 52 people were arrested in Amsterdam for sending so-called "Nigerian 419 scam" emails. Without trying to derail this thread any further, here's a clarification on why I said chinese spammers.
<derail>
In EVE, we have the farmers, ISK sellers and macroers - that (imo) most of the time originates from Asian countries.
So in other word who would most likely be interested (if scamming/phishing) in your ISK and assets? Maybe the Asian originated sweatshops/farmers/whatever.
Hence to me it would seem very unlikely that Mr Hollywood spammer would be interested in sending out fake "EVE-Online Petition survey" mails along his "Buy my cheap fake Viagra pills here"-mails.

You can rate a petition by r-clicking on it and giving it a 1 to 10 mark in game with a field of text if you want to add in any comments. No reason for CCP to be asking you to provide log in info out of game.

This whole EVE-Online thing is a scam... They ask you to put in your details, then take a small sum of money off you EVERY MONTH!

you can't access the eve-o My Petitions page without entering your login info, and the web survey is considerably more detailed than the "rate us 1-10 and here's a textbox" feedback in game.

The odd thing is the URL, and the (copy/pasted) WHOIS lookup of the link in the email appears to be this website.
How could it be a scam if it links to the real Eve website?
An official word on these mails would be nice.

and if you still don't want to click the link, you can manually open this site and click the My Petitions link.
upon further inspection, the survey in the link is exactly the same as the one in game, and there's no reason for these emails to exist any more. I must have been thinking of the long and detailed customer service surveys I get from my ISP every time I call tech support.

It's a standard mail sent out by CCP after conclusion of a petition, no need to worry about being scared about scammers there :)
With that said, if in doubt NEVER answer it with your login details (you kinda need to put in the details to do the survey as the web page needs to know who you are ;) ) ___________________________

Try running a proper internet server on a backbone pipe, hosting real domains and dealing with real attacks and real spam. You'll be cured of thinking that all the world is the same in about 45 minutes.
