The topic of tea was raised this evening in the 'celes public' channel. Being a votary of tea drinking I was forced to defend my faith when my idling cohorts began to mock my healthy infatuation with the stuff.
My housemate insists I couldn't live without the golden liquid and I'm inclined to agree!
Who else loves tea almost as much as life itself? Don't be shy now.

Edited by: Kinsy on 04/07/2007 00:04:48 Ill restate my story.
A bunch of mates came round for a pre outing beer. Upon turning up and asking what they wanted to drink, they all answered tea.
I told them to make their own ******* tea and got a beer.
Tea is suitable for mornings and with a fat bastard fryup, also maybe perhaps when your freezing your nips off.
We have also established that welsh is crap at making tea and Salek is actually very good. However, Salek is not a big tea drinker, much to the dismay of welsh.
(For those of you that dont know they live together. Whether or not they are a couple is of course open for debate)

Tea truly is the greatest substance ever devised by anyone, ever. I enjoy a pint of bitter as much as the next man, but if I had to choose between a life without alcohol or a life without tea, there'd be no contest.

Tea contains anti-oxidants that helps the body fight disease and infection. It also contains flouride which helps prevent plaque and tooth decay (assuming you go easy on the sugar! See Eris' above suggestion and try with honey instead ).

So do coffee drinkers.
btw Voodoo : A lot of teas aren't meant to be used that way. Leave the bags in for too long an they will taste like crap (not like actual crap but it'll taste bad - not that I actually know what crap tastes like... really, I don't). There are exceptions though (I've had one that's supposed to boil for 30 minutes or so for example).

That's not tea. That's known as "stuff in a cup"!
When most Englismen talk about tea (though I don't claim to speak for everyone!), they're generally talking about blended black teas. Particularly English Breakfast tea.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blended_tea
They don't mean afternoon tea, with cucumber sandwiches, and little fine bone china cups. They mean big steaming hot mugs of tea. With milk.
If it ain't the above, it ain't tea, it's just some poncy nabmy pamby perfumed leaves in a cup.

This reminds me, perhaps someone more educated in the art of tea drinking can answer a question for me. My personal favourite blend of tea is known here as "English Afternoon". However, I've recently finished off my stash, and to my horror, the one company that makes it no longer does so. I do, however, see "Traditional Afternoon" tea all over the place. Is this the same blend merely named differently or am I going to have to bite the bullet and find a different blend?

Blend names like "English Breakfast", "Traditional Afternoon" and "Gold Label" tea are more to do with that individual tea house distinguishing between their own blends. Its possible to have two "English Breakfast" blends that taste nothing like each other.
To see if what the first tea house called "English Afternoon" is based on the same flavour as what the others refer to as "Traditional Afternoon", you're just going to have to bite the bullet and go for trial and error --------

A latte is 1/3 straight expresso, 2/3 steamed milk with a layer of foam on top. A skinny latte does indeed use skim milk.

First topic of conversation every night : So what kinda tea you drinking?
My friend bought this tea machine, some contraption, and I became a fan of those fancy gourmet teas.
These days, I drink plain lipton black tea.
Sometimes coffee, sometimes tea. Mostly tea.
