In WoW, there was always room in a team for a healer.
In EvE, are there professions that are particularly in demand or is popularity chiefly determined by the amount of skill points you have? (I notice that for some corps, they would like you to have over 30 million SPs before you can apply.)
Alternatively, is simply having the most number of people in a team the most important thing?

Well, if we are speaking about deep space, there is always room for professional PvPers. In empire its much more relaxed, and you can mainly do what ever you want to do.

If you specialise in a role so they're you're really good at it, that will usually get you a second look. Especially if it's a role that doesn't get many kill-mails, since a lot of players are obsessed wit these and don't want to do these jobs. CONCORD provide consequences, not safety; only you can do that. |

I'm betting a fully fitted, really skillful, repairship is always needed. Or energy transfer ship. Basicly anything non-pewpew is needed since very many want to pewpew.
So yeah, i have a problem with being serious, but it's the almost smallest problem i have. |

Interdictor pilots. Interceptor pilots (good ones in lowsec). Carrier pilots with remote rep capability. Logistic ship pilots. Pilots with command ships and good leadership skills. All of those are in need everywhere ---

Covert Ops is a nice specialisation, it's easily attained, very useful and ocne you get some experience with it you're a fully fledged part of the team, even if you have less than 1/5th SP of the other members.
I went/am going that route and it serves me well.

If pilot skill and gear fiting is the same order of magnitude, generally, yeah, the larger group has the upper hand. For a smaller group to outclass a larger group, you need insane amounts of extra skill (both SP and tactics) and/or insanely better fitings. I mean, come on, just look at Goonfleet, they proved beyond a doubt that superior numbers usually overwhelm superior training. Not always, but usually.

Train leadership skills and get into command ships, its not alot of fun getting to the point that you can call yourself specialised, but you'll be sought after by pvp corps because your skills can mean the difference between winning and losing a fight for your gangs. If you dont want PvP you can also be very useful in carebear corps where your leadership skills bonuses can help bring in alot more income.

I would say a good scout who has mastered the scanner is more important than an interdictor. In fact, a person who knows how to work their scanner and relay intel accurately is almost always more valuable than an interdictor, carrier pilot, or command ship pilot.
IMO, good scouts are becoming are harder to come by these days.

I feel bad for other dictor pilots. By Training this ship you effectivly ruin your game.
ex: "Hey R'olyat wanna go PVPing?" "Sure, I'll bring my Domi" "NO NO DICTOR DICTOR NAOOSOSDFLS" "o...k..."
It's needed but by training one you screw yourself.

Interdictor pilots are the new black. If you decide to go this route there is only one ship to go for and that is the sabre closely followed by the flycatcher. cov ops again are whats needed but in my experience alot of people train up cov ops pilots on separate accounts.I know I have.
while training for dictors go intys you need to this to level 4 anyway to fly interdictors. It's also handy that the weapons needed for dictors are the same as used on intys.
ta da there is your answer. While recons, commands hacs and other assorted ships are desired.A low skill pilot who can fly an interdictor will always be considered by any self respecting pvp corp.
good luck with whatever you decide to go for

i sorta do it all, but my main concentration is logistics.
i fly a basilisk. fitted with shield xfers and armor rep drones. just like a healer, you will almost always be welcomed into a gang. The only issue, is if you come across another gang that knows what is going on, you (logistics) are called primary, leaving you with little choice but to try and run.

What usualy corps lack are :
Scouts (small fast ship needed usualy interceptor or cov op) Interdictors Dedicated CovertOps pilots
with the last being most needed. Smart covop pilot is a rare thing :).
