This is by no means a recent issue. I contacted Tiscali about 10 months ago regarding this issue. They responded with "we're working on it". Still no joy.
Not impressed....

Woot!
BT just took over my account and I am getting double the speed I got from Tiscali (on a good day!.....at this time of night...it is 10x....not kidding!) AND EVE is working too!
Oh happy, happy day!!

Edited by: Dandon Chan on 31/07/2007 17:00:53 I'll be leaving Pipex within the next few days due to this issue which had remained unsolved for over a month now, as well as the terrible speed of the connection of course! Going to ADSL24.

Edited by: Rabs on 03/08/2007 22:56:48 Edited by: Rabs on 03/08/2007 22:56:05 Its been long known that Tiscali have too many subscribers than their network can cope with. Of course when it comes to peak times they have (poorly configured) traffic management active, which can cause major issues ie excessive pings/packet loss etc.
As for alternatives if your contracts nearly up/managed to break out, try one of the Entanet resellers (ADSL24/UKFSN etc), Plusnet, BE or Virgin Media (cable).
I personally have tested multiple accounts (on the same machine) on Plusnet, Virgin Media, Demon Internet and even Talktalk (!) which all work fine.

I've had this issue for going on 2 months. I'm on Tiscali 2.2mb package. Prior to revaltions 2 I had hardly a single issue that couldn't be resolved by a client reinstall. I write this message from a freshly installed and updated copy of XP and a brand new fresh install of eve. I just re activated my account after quitting over this issue and I'm presented with this message
"Connection Timeout - The server did not respond to the client's secure-handshake request within a reasonable amount of time"
My Tiscali contract is up in 2 months but I think I may be changing ISP on Monday.
Can't CCP use some of theyre sway as a large-ish company to put pressure on Tiscali as Tiscali seem to be ignoring this issue...

From what I gather they ignore all issues, Eve related and others. They want your money. Service comes second.

I got Toucan Inet... Which is just Tiscali under a differnt name I found out.
They Block me From 2PM till 12AM.
Some FPS Games are allowed... but are unplayable in the evening due to lag. Bandwidth limits I was given are a lie. I am not amused, But Saddly all the ISP's mess me about here. Some refused me cos I got a 2mb line.. wtf? Sky Package deal was one of them. lol
Any one got any Ideas for an ISP in Red Lodge, Near newmarket? I wanna play... :p The PrePatch Day song |

Having the exact same problem with BT it will be fine for a stretch of hours in the morning, then during the afternoon and evening it disconnects every 30 seconds.
BT says theres no fault with the line, and i can still connect to the network, any other BT users having this issue?
and could CCP let them know if they havent

As posted above I was with Tiscali on a 2meg line and was experiencing the 2pm to midnight issue. I had NO trouble getting a MAC code (although I had to steel myself to be extremely polite in asking for something which is my right to obtain), receiving it within an hour by text, 2 hours by email and still waiting for the hard copy
Moved to BT within a week and am now getting upwards of 2.5meg on a 3meg line. Experienced the usual problems in the first week of fluctating speeds and random dropouts as they tried to assess the minimum speed I would accept without whining but it all seems smooth now.

star date 20th august 2007, time 9.10bst. i have just spent two hours talkin to tiscali about the same problem as all others here have had. spoke to one operator and got fobbed off telling me it my problem. the next operator i spoke to tried telling me that tiscali dont support internet gaming if this is the case then why do we have the internet. so i asked to be put through to a manager he has takin a lot of detaikls about this issue and is hopefully going to reply in the next 48hrs. ( fingers very much crossed on that one) i play other mmo's and other online games and these are not a problem what so ever , i feel as an eve member we are being discriminated by tiscali. i have takin other steps too including contact the uk tiscali center and contacting ofcom and other watchdog sites. also going to get in contact with my gaming magazine PC GAMER. please if your having the same problem still then join our cause and contact this magazine as well the address is [email protected]
goodluck and hope to be seeing you all and playing at peak times very soon
p.s when calling tiscali insist on speaking to a manager. as the operators just fob you off with pathetic lies.

Edited by: krewton on 21/08/2007 09:49:45 stardate 21 august 2007 since my last post on here i have done more research into this issue, checked my usage of internet for the past three months and its well below what im allowed so there is no reason why tiscali should be doing this to us at all. so i have rang the office of fair trading in the uk. they are saying that tiscali are breaking the SUPPLY OF GOODS ACT 1982. so i can go straight to the top and the managing director of tiscali. if you are still having these peak time problems, then you should send details of your contract, account number, let them know that they should be providing a service with reasonable care and skill that there not, go through your complaint with proof, details of your usage and proof that your with in your usage peramitters. and give the,m 10 working days to reply. the address to send this information to is: Managing director of tiscali Tiscali customer services PO BOx 7206 Milton kynes england MK14 6XG
i really hope this helps, if they dont get in contact in 10 working days then i have to contact trading standards again and then they will see about a court action against them. will keep you all informed of how my quest for justice to tiscali users is going.

Yet another person on Tiscali here.
I was lied to repeatedly, still have no MAC code and they seem not to care.
The bizarre thing is that it now seems to work again after I managed to eventually get someone to report the fault to their engineers.
I don't know though whether it works by design or random fluke.

stardate 21 august 2007 time 4.00 pm it seems now i have the accsess we so rightfully deserve. my advice to anyone with this problem is follow my instructions above and contact the head office of tiscali, and tell them there breaking there code of conduct. we might all be lucky and they might have sorted the problem in general and not just to a lucky few. i will keep my eye on this forum section for a while and i hope all is sorted for us all now.

Edited by: Richy Young on 21/08/2007 16:33:24 sounds like you having some success i just got a reply via email saying from what i understand you cant conenct to the eve website ... sighhhh
im gunna make some go krewton banners and stand out front of tiscali waving them
it only appears to be blocked 2 till 12 im assuming due to how ever they shape there traffic
traffic shapings fine as long as everyone doesnt get ****ed off by it tiscali if you suddenly start stopping people getting what they have paid for youll get in as much trouble as orange broadband is for miss leading customers, how many fines now have they had....

star date 23 august 2007 last night i got to play eve at peak times all night. three days of having a go at tiscali seems to have worked, im not sure if they have just unblocked my computer or have sorted the problem totally. if you still having problems please post here, i will keep you in formed of how mine is running over the next few days. if your still having problems then plz post and i will continue to fight the good fight in your corner. if they can sort it on my computer it proves they can do it for all eve players who use tiscali. i really do hope that its an all thing rather than just unblocking me. so plz plz plz keep me informed.

Have to admire your perseverence mate. Personally it was the final straw for me after a year or so of steadily reducing speeds. Every time I log on to BT now I breathe a sigh of relief.

To add to the above...
I was called by a senior tech from tiscali on thursday saying theyt had just acquired 3 more backbone pipes and that all port blocking had now been stopped as they has enough extra capactiy, and now for me at least, Eve works fine :)
seems like moaning to the ISPA worked for me.. but in theory everyone else having trouble should be sorted out now too.

I doubt this is the case for every country Tiscali operates in (Italy, Netherlands, Germany, UK and Czech Republic) or is it? Reading up i think you mean Tiscali UK, although i might be mistaken.

same here three nights now with problems. sent letter yesterday saying how unhappy i am and that if not sorted in twenty four hours going to take this matter further with consumers direct. to look into court action and compensation. they have found away to block us but make it look like our ip address to eve through them is still running. to check this goto start and then run, type cmd. and enter here you will have the cmd screen type tracert 87.237.38.200
it will run a tracer from your computer to the destination. tiscali will be in the list of destinations. plz get back to me and tell me your results. just checked mine and there still activly blocking.. i really do hope this company understand how far i will take this and anyone else with the problem should also put on pressure. i have truly had enough tomorrow i will be looking at further ways now to take action against them.
this is a direct infringement of the SUPPLY AND GOODS ACT 1982.
