Im board with my current forms of income and am looking to explore other aspects of Eve that I have not played before so Im looking at trading. I just read Sun Wins thread on trading and it talked about alot of stuff some new some I already knew but was nice and helpfull. My question is when you brake market trading down to the very basics is it anything more then buying an item for cheap in system A and hauling it to system B to sell at a markup? Hauling goods from jita to agil every 3 days just doesnt sound like fun to me.

It depends how you trade. You listed a very common, overused and boring way to trade. The more lucrative and interesting ways are for you to find out though. I started out doing the transporting thing for a few days and immediately figured out better ways to make money trading. The best thing I can tell you is that you gotta put in a little effort and then you'll get the answers to your questions.
I promise you that no one will tell you the best ways to trade as it would undermine those strategies if everyone knew them.

Shadarle above is correct on both counts. The most important point is that nobody will share their 'secret' methods of trading. His other points then follows that you have to find your owns ways to make money on the market.
Here's a low-level hint that I 'discovered' one day: Say you can sell the item called "A" for a 10% profit on each item. However, people are only buying a certain number per day. So do you invest 100 mil ISK in "A" and wait three weeks of price micro-managing to get 110mil, or do you instead invest 33mil each in 3 different modules that each bring in 10% profit per module? Then you get your 110 mil in one week instead of three. This example is very simplified.
Kind of a basic hint, but it wasn't obvious to me at first.
Here's another hint: Don't try controlling market prices unless you are just experimenting on CHEAP, CHEAP items because you will almost for sure lock up some of your money for a long time waiting to sell 1498 Damage Control I's and 1200 Afterburner I's at rock-bottom prices because people filled in the market underneath you almost before you put up your sell orders *roll eyes at self* Haha :)

Yes. You could build stuff and sell it.
Finally, if you don't have at least basic excel skills, go back and pew pew. Trading isn't for you.

You don't have to move anything, you can do nice profits just by sitting in station, buying for buy price and selling for sell price. Couriers are your friends. Look at high volume items and study their market history. Also do no begin on Jita - it is hardest market full of speculants and campers. Not good place for new trader.

Is that a joke? I have never used single excel sheet for trading in my over 2 years old trader career.

Hhhmm I still move things... and it's alot more then 10% margin.
Also: money makes money. So don't spend all right away. I can buy a fully tech II fitted BC now everyday from the profit to do pew pew and I don't overspend ISK so I don't loose market "force".
And offcourse, traders will not tell how. They'll just tell you how rich they are and how they are not gonna tell it so they can get richer and richer ^^ ----------------- Destiny is not a matter of chance. It is a matter of choice. It's not a thing to be waited for - it is a thing to be achieved. |

Heh. I've seen way more spreadsheets and number crunching dealing with combat that with trade. And who can keep track of market trends when the Earth suddenly moves under your feet? (ie, zyd tweaks in last patch for example).

Any decent trader worth their salt could have seen the zydrine adjustments coming a mile away. |

One no-brainer is to buy in jita, sell in various 0.0 hubs. LOTS of people make very good money this way, just learn what they need, and supply it to them at anywhere between a 25%-100% markup.
