Looking to put a new rig together but it's been a few years since I was 'up' on the subject so what is everyone opinions on the state of play in the usual 'battles' between...
ATI and Nvidia
Intel and AMD

I'm an AMD-ATI fun. Sadly I have to agree with all the above (at least on the part of the GC). |

AMD gpus does have (last I checked at least) the ability to run more monitors out of a single card than one can with an nvidia gpu, and once you go trippel screen you dont want too go back. but for pure horse power I would say nvidia is a smidge better. The 7970 coming out just this month might give nv a run for its money (and that is compatring amd's new generation with nvidia last generation) but from what I have seen from tests nothing all too decisive.
Not to mention being in the 600usd range. |

Eyefinity is great when your computer isn't crashing from the POS drivers that ATI has. I was a big fan of theirs and they do make great hardware but their software makes it largely unusable many times. As far as CPU it doesn't really matter IMHO anymore since both companies have hardware that is several times more than you need. So that's really up to you but I'd strongly think about using NVidia GC Finds camping stations from the inside much easier. Designer of http://code.google.com/p/yapeal/ for Eve API. I wouldn't go for the ATI (trust me, I'm an ATI user) for the simple reason that EO rendering engine is optimized for nVidia cards. Meaning that you will get better ship details on nVIdia. Not to mention that if/when we get ship-skins, they will look better on nVidia cards (experience gained from WoT). |

I've been flipping often between ATI and Nvidia depending on prices and hardware specs, and the common point of all ATI cards have always been the ****** drivers, so I can only agree strongly with Dragonaire there. Oh yea, definetly, ATI drivers are ****, and the control center is an absolute abomination (even when it works its quite glitchy)
I went with my 6970 this time mainly cause I had been on Nv for the past x years and had completely forgotten how ****** their drivers where, and I wanted to also get another monitor :P
(next time, dual nvidia cards if need be)
I also never realy use the 'Eyfinity' what I do use is 3 monitors in extended desktop mode. Even eve gets the narrow horrizontal view and all other games looks like I'm seeing them through a fish eye camera lens. |
