I want to buy my first laptop computer. I would like one that can play EVE reasonably well in the $1000 USD range. Anyone have any suggestions?

I went with an HP Pavilion, I've done everything from small-scale PvP to L4s to 150 v 150 fleet combat with it without problems.
Laptops are underrated when it comes to EVE, just make sure you have a good connection.

I use a Toshiba Satellite A100 (I THINK, dont have it with me...)
It works very well for Eve, and any other game. My graphics are pumped up about as high as they can get.
It has
2.0ghz Duo Core Processor (I have NO problems with this) 120GB HDD 512 MB Nvidia GeForce Card (cant remember the name) 1 gig of ram (maybe 2 now that I think of it..)
It cost me about 1100 US. Its also good for a general work computer too, it has a Fingerprint reader in it, so you can lock your computer without having to enter a stupid password every time. You can also register passwords for internet sites and some programs with the Biometric software.
That 1100 included a nice Bag to carry it in, 512 MB Flash drive (which I have since lost ) Netgear Wireless router, and an extra gig of ram.
Not bad. Toshiba computers are underrated, and are fast becoming some of the best on the market (IMO)

Hmm. Looks like updating does not bump a posting. My thanks to the fine people who have responded so far.

Originally by: David Fairtrade Also, it seems hard to find a laptop online now that doesn't have widescreen. Won't that distort the EVE graphics, or is there some easy way to run EVE in a window?
Widescreen works just fine with EVE (in that it's natively supported). In fact, with the amount of information available (overview, neocom, autopilot etc.) having a wide screen aspect is probably the best way to view the game and be able to see in front of you! Many people prefer the 16:9 aspect ratio to 4:3 anyway, which is why most monitors are going that way. I resisted for a while, trying to continually buy non-widescreen monitors, but I recently picked up a 1680x1050 and games really are better in widescreen!
Additionally, yes, you can run EVE in a window easily. Just go to the graphics options and check the 'Run in window' box. Again, it's how I usually play EVE so I can Alt-Tab to spam the forums more easily...
