Hey there,
I am moving to Singapore soon, and unfortunately my laptop can't handle Eve, and there's this alliance tournament that my alliance has entered coming up soon, maybe you've heard about it... so I was wondering if any of you guys are from Singapore, and would be able to tell me how the prices are on new notebooks around there, and where I should start looking. Or maybe you have one you want to get rid of, I'm open for suggestions
Would be happy to hear back! Cheers. --- WTS: Forum Signatures, price negotiable. Evemail me!

Where are you moving from?
Prices are comparable to the UK, except sales tax is considerably lower, was 7% last I checked, instead of 17.5% VAT as in UK, so expect the same laptop to be about 8-10% cheaper.

Hmm, I'm moving from Germany. We have 19% VAT now, isn't that great? Well, I suppose I might try to get one from Hongkong or Shanghai then?
Must... alliance tourney... gnaaaaaaah! --- WTS: Forum Signatures, price negotiable. Evemail me!

a laptop would generally be in the range of SGD 2000 give or take half a grand, and the first place u'll want to look at for a laptop is sim lim square, its like the jita of tech stuff here

Sim Lim Square is definitely the first place you should check out. Closest MRT stops are Bugis or Little India (iirc...been a while since I went to school there) and it has to be seen to be believed. Multiple storeys of electronics retailers...calling it the Jita of Tech Stuff is an apt comparison. You can still haggle a bit with the vendors too, so don't go accepting the first offer you get. One piece of advice that was valid when I lived there was that you should start at the higher floors and work your way down...generally the vendors on the lower floors are more used to the passing tourist trade. Not sure how much that has worked its way up the building.
Damn, now I want to go back and spend a day browsing.

Thanks for the replies guys, I'll definitely check that out :)
If it turns out to be too pricey after all, would it be worth the hassle to pay a visit to Hong Kong and look for a notebook there, in the course of general tourist sightseeing? :) --- WTS: Forum Signatures, price negotiable. Evemail me!

Geiz ist geil!
Singapore is a bit expensive compared to their neighbours, but if you're going for a brand name laptop with quality parts, prices are pretty much the same anywhere (+taxes), unless you really count every penny.

yeah they ahve places like that around china. been to a few in places like guangzhou (north of HK) and compared to western electronics goods stores you get things dirt cheap and a possiblitie to haggle for anything.
