Have you checked with CCP regarding being allowed to sell applications for isk? As far as I am aware, there is a small finite list of real world things allowed to be traded for isk including VOIP channels, webhosting, web-design and game time codes. I don't recall seeing software there, though I agree it should be.

Well, I would be surprised if CCP didn't allow it, as I think they would have had this kind of feature specifically in mind, as they have spoken a lot about players and tools designed via these keys etc.
I had a spreadsheet a while back with all my top-end trade routes that I sold for a pretty penny, and I have seen a decent number of player-made apps requesting funds or 'donations' in order to get full versions.
ie, POSwatch provides a tool as well, same kinda thing and charges monthly fee's on it
www.poswatch.net
I guess CCP needs to know where to draw the line, but I only see these kinds of apps as beneficial to the playerbase.

Alot of people sell excel sheets, and have done it for a long time. A program is just an excel sheet on stereroids.

This may cross over the line. So I offer to donate 50M isk to you for a copy of this application. I'll also offer you some iskies to update it as well.
That is if it passes all the anti-trojan, keylogger, netstat litmus tests.

Spreadsheets aren't on the list either. That doesn't mean you can't sell them for isk, it just means that you could get in trouble for it if you aren't allowed. poswatch is different, web-programming falls under webdesign and webhosting categories. Actually, I remember someone made a site that had a premium service you had to pay for and he wasn't allowed, so I would still mail CCP and ask.
I'm just asking if people have asked CCP about things like this. All it takes is one mail to ask and you'll probably get the permission to go ahead.
EDIT: Also, I'd ask for a copy of the source code if I were buying this. For obvious reasons.

I took a gamble and gave it a shot. My A/V software etc didn't pick anything up, but that's not to say it's clean. Having said that, the actual program does work. I don't know if external access is available to your trades, but the workings of the internals are pretty amazing
I found it cool that I could check the last X amount of time (7 days for eg) of my Eve life, and see if over-all I had made a personal net profit or net loss. It checks everything. Repair bills, market transactions, misson rewards, bounties, etc etc. Unfortunately it did show I had more expenses than income over the past 7 days so was operating at a loss, but I love the idea.
I guess it allows for people to truly calculate their value and earnings in Eve. I came up short, but havent tried using my trader char yet (Ricdics), hopefully this will tip the scales.
So whilst I don't have the skills to pull this apart and tell you if it has any trojans, spyware etc inside it, I can confirm that the data inside is as advertised, and pretty impressive stuff. The initial outlay is a tad high, but I think when you see the content and abilities it offers, it really makes it worthwhile.
Finally, I have requested the ability to run this for a corporation (corp wallet, transactions etc) and CTV has advised he will look at adding this kind of functionality when he can.
Great software, and really paves the way for some great API based software on it's way here.

While I'm pleased if that's true, there's a reason you're not allowed to post GM responses on the forum. People can make them up and edit them. Essentially, we still have to take your word for it so nothing's changed.

Edited by: Ray McCormack on 15/07/2007 20:35:03 You are allowed to sell this for ISK. You can do the same with Excel sheets, forum and teamspeak hosting, signature and website design, etc.
Edit : I see that's been gone over. I don't see how this differs from the other services, so I doubt it'd be a problem.

This is another thing I wanted to mention. Dev's were worried about over updating via the API. I would do several things here:
First, make auto update configurable. Selectable hourly intervals as well as being turned off. Of course this would also suggest an "update now" button.
Just some initial suggestions... going to have to get the app at some point to go beyond that.

AFAIK you can't query the market transaction part of the API more than once an hour anyway (it will refuse to return data if you try). I think the API dev realised we would all try to have instantly updated wallets if they didn't throttle it server-side.

Suggestion #2: Formatting.
There really needs to be comma for the thousands, millions, billions, and (God willing) trillions. The eye strain from trying to figure out what the report is actually reporting is... intense.

Suggestion #3: Filters
Not to make life more complicated for you but (Couldn't you hear that coming?) having some way to view sections of the wallet activity itself would make this tool vastly more useful. For instance, you have "select date to limit to". A more functional method would be "Date From" and "Date To" to control the range of the current snap shot.
Another useful level of filtering would be to have an area filter. Region, System, Station are the most logical states that I think would be most useful. (Constellation?? Who cares.)
Imho, I think the other "features" of this app are nice, that being the various calculators, but the truth of the matter is that it is purely the accounting aspects of this program that will be the drawing facet. Nice work on them but totally extraneous.

Suggestion #4: Printing/Exporting
There is currently no ability to copy, print, nor export any of the data that this application generates. This does impair the overall attractiveness of the application. (To be honest I don't think this needs any expounding upon.)
PS: I really should point out that I do like this app. It's very neat with few glitches and troubles that I can see. Nice use of Foxpro for a clean app.

Possible problems with your 'tool.
1. Are you are selling it? Funadamentally not allowed. Whether you are selling it for money, barter, trade, ISK, or anything of monetary value. If your recommended donation is a prerequsite for obtaining a copy it is NOT a donation but a fee and probably breaches the following:
Quote: B. Selling Items and Objects You may not transfer, sell or auction, or buy or accept any offer to transfer, sell or auction (or offer to do any of the foregoing), any content appearing within the Game environment, including without limitation characters, character attributes, items, currency, and objects, other than via a permitted Character Transfer as described in section 3 above. You may not encourage or induce any other person to participate in such a prohibited transaction. The buying, selling or auctioning (or any attempt at doing so) of characters, character attributes, items, currency, or objects, whether through online auctions (such as ebay), newsgroups, postings on message boards or any other means is prohibited by the EULA and a violation of CCP's proprietary rights in the Game.
In addition, yo umay be breacjig a couple more EULA with your software.
Quote: CONDUCT A. Specifically Restricted Conduct 1. You may not take any action that imposes an unreasonable or disproportionately large load on the System.
Is 30 min an acceptable refresh period? personally I am not sure but I'd ccheck with CCP to see if they have any limits or guideline associated with that.
Quote: CONDUCT A. Specifically Restricted Conduct 2.You may not use your own or third-party software to modify any content appearing within the Game environment or change how the Game is played.
Will your software wbe a tool to aid play? Or will it facilitiate the player changing how they play the game because they dont need to log in and check the market / sales etc?
Not saying your work isn't dang cool and helpful one should ask the question "does it go over the line" in any fashion such that it actually alters how the game is played for the user.
Those are my thoughts on the matter.

Does teh app saves the info it gets from the API? I want to be able to use the data from the API with other apps, so it will be good if every time when the app gets info from the server to store it in a folder as CSV.
Also as many people in my corp run missions amd rat, I want to know who have contributed to the corp tax and how much.

@ Taik
I think the app will be okay, as the EULA refers to in-game items. There is very little they can do to prevent the sale of a spreadsheet outwith the EVE environment, as people can just deposit isk into any account as a "donation".
I agree that 30 mins may be excessive for refreshing. Most tools i've used i've set to refresh every 2-4 hours.
If there are a few more good reviews, and if the source was made available to paying customers i'd buy it.
It looks like a top notch tool so far, with a fair bit of potential. |
