Here's Stamm's Rules. ______________________
No implants. No faction ships. No faction/cosmos modules. Standard T1, or named, or T2 only. T2 ammo permitted. All EW permitted. Drones permitted.
7 ships per team, at least 1 cruiser or destroyer class (HAC/recon/dictor is fine) at least 1 frigate (inty is fine. So 5 battleships a HAC and a stealth bomber would be fine. Or 6 interceptors and a destroyer too.
Teams start 20KM in opposite directions from a marker. If a ship goes outside of 75KM from the marker the ship is popped.
All ships and modules to be replaced after each round.
1bil deposit required, failure to turn up for a round voids this.
Prizes - whatever you want, doesn't have to be anything other than "Winner".
I know I'm too late, but this post is made of win.
Except a group of 7 rooks or 7 arazus would be for the win - I doubt anyone could withstand that much jamming or sensor damping, and then focused fire should take care of the rest. But, why would I give away my strategy? Please forgot you read this paragraph =).
Addition to STAMM'S RULES: Must be 7 unique ships - no 2 of the same ship.
= PERFECT TOURNAMENT.

Edited by: Cythrawl on 17/07/2007 08:42:00 You know, they could just make it easy.
7v7 Limit of a max 3 of one class.(bs/bc/cruiser/dessy/frig, or any t2 variant) Must field one of each class or you loose one pilot. No faction ships. No cap ships. Anything you can fit except faction/officer mods are allowed.(Yes that means COSMOS is allowed) Faction ammo not allowed. No pirate implants. All other implants allowed. Rigs and boosters allowed. No industrials/mining barges allowed.
And finally, the most important rule:
No two ships of the same hull type on a team.
No Arazu and Lachesis on the same team for instance. No combo of 3 Ravens/Megas/Tempests/Apocs either. Either multi-racial or you have to field one of each type the race has to offer. Also limits the ability to field multiple version of the same command ships/battlecruisers with gang modules.
You could mix and match almost anything you wanted that way. None of this 'oh woe is us, we've only got so many points, but we could do horrible things if we wanted to be cheap bastards' crap I keep hearing.
It'd still be a structured tourney, but it'd be a lot fairer towards balancing tactics.
Cythrawl DEFY Director Killing For Peace
P.S. With 7v7 you might actually see people start using remote modules towards their gang mates. Like remote ECM countermeasures and sensor/tracking links.
Edit for stuffs. Similar to Stamm's rules I know. But some bit different.

Originally by: Stamm For this tournament they should create a special system with 2 jumpgates around 50KM apart.
No sun, no planets, no celestial objects at all.
The competitors start in a different system and when the word is given are allowed to jump in. By doing this it's a bit better than just having the ships sitting there and saying "go".
Of course the real reason is the system they're jumping into will have all sorts of CCP staff in it, and when they jump in we might get a de-sync, which would humiliate CCP enough to fix it and stop adding nonsense features.
They can't do that; they'll get desynced and have to say on TV either that this never happened before - duh, or that it's a feature. :)

If you want 'good' prizes for an alliance:
1) Alliance gets to rename a system/planet/moon within their sovreignity; or the faction they are representing renames a system/planet/moon on their behalf.
2) Alliance gets a free outpost of their choice, spawned at a system they hold sovereignty in.
3) Alliance gets a standing boost (25%) from chosen faction.

Perfect tournament: - not too many ships (5-7) - only tech1 gear/ships (no named, faction, officer, cosmos) - only tech1 rigs - only tech1 implants (no pirate implants) - no rewards except fame - small arena (max 100km)

Agreed.
Strategy games aren't as fun when you're the chess piece, rather than the chessmaster.
Intelligent and truthful, but I don't think it's the complete story. There are people who willingly accept positions at the bottom of the mega-alliances. While IRL there are all kinds of coercive pressures that make people sign up with large organizations in one way or another, in EVE you have a choice.
People at the bottom (and also the middle, and maybe even the top) of the alliance food-chain aren't playing a strategy game, they're playing some other kind of game. While they are pawns when it comes to the Great War, there's something else going on that keeps them logging in. I wonder what it is?

Best prize IMO is to give the winning alliance the choice to create a custom 'skin' for a battleship of their choice that only they can use. Not gonna overpower anything, but much higher in the cool factor IMO than any other reward.

True dat. The word within Agony is that if you **** of the CEO enough, you'll be promoted. Having been promoted a couple of times, I can see why they say that.

Well, they posted the final rules, mostly unchanged. They did, however, add new prizes.
personal prizes:
Quote: # First prize. 20 million loyalty points split equally among the members of the winning team. # Second prize. 12 million loyalty points split equally among the members of the winning team. # Third prize. 6 million loyalty points split equally among the members of the winning team.
hey, for a 10 man team, we can get almost 3 HG pirate sets each, just don't forget your 2.1bil isk you need along with the lp!
alliance prizes:
Quote: * 1st place a 30% standing bonus for each and every pilot in the alliance. * 2nd place a 20% standing bonus for each and every pilot in the alliance. * 3rd place a 10% standing bonus for each and every pilot in the alliance.
