So, Since the mic on my headset decided to die today, I gotta go buy a new one now. Problem with this is I haven't had to buy a new one in about 5yrs, and I have no idea what's any good anymore. Can anyone give me some suggestions on what I should think about getting?

For me headsets don't last long. I went from a Sennheiser PC155 that was great and lasted for over a year, to an Icemat Siberia which provided great sound, but the cords were way too long and the mic was iffy. My big gripe with the Icemat 'phones was that they felt extremely flimsy and unfortunately for them the durability was lacking.
I went back to Sennheiser and the PC160 model about ten months ago and couldn't be happier. I investigated SteelSound and a lot of the other stuff thats out there, but decided to stick with the tried and true and what worked best for me in the past.

Buy a cheap one from Argos. If it breaks within a year we give you a replacement. Get the replacement cover (like 2 pounds and that means we'll replace it up to 3 years after you bought it , even if you've had it replaced before within the first year.
It's what I always do with stuff like earphones, headsets and other random small and cheap things that always seem to break from overuse.

What Grandeur says. If you have the money, you can't go far wrong with Sennheisers.

I use a Koss SB/45 headset. Not too expensive and it doesnt get uncomfortable during long sessions.

Edited by: Scorpyn on 17/07/2007 20:03:30 Don't get any of these models, they hurt the ears if you use them for too long (you get used to it after a while but it's not something you should have to get used to imo).
I use these myself. I'm satisfied with them. The only problem is that they are a bit too good sometimes (sound quality wise), making some things that sound good in other headset sound less good (high quality sound is good though).

amazing sound quality for a good price. Stay away from the big box retail crappers and order this from your local pc shop. Trust me.

At work, I use the Zalman ZM-RS6F headphones and the mike they came with through Zalman's usb soundcard. At home I use a Plantronics headset for voice stuff (it's the same headset I used when working in a call centre...noise cancelling and comfortable. I figured if it worked well for eight hours a day dealing with people trying to fix their hardware it would work well for TS/Ventrillo/EVE Voice). Other people in my department have Koss SB45's, Sennheiser PC151's and Logitech's. During the last heated discussion about which brand/types were better, the only thing everyone agreed on was that what works for one person is not guaranteed to work for you. Try them on before you buy if you can, and get them from a place with a no arguments returns policy so if they're not what you wanted you can exchange or refund.
