ok if your like a 2 or 3 year old character plz dnt go on about how easyily u can solo lvl 4's but imo as a new player the gap between lvl 3 and lvl 4 missions is immensley big i can go afk for hours in a lvl 3 and yet me and a similar aged charater combined can barely do lvl 4's warping in and out all the time

well, yes....L4s are a lot tougher than L3s :) You cant just move up to the next class of ships and be teh ubergod like you can from L1-3. You need to have both a good BS/BC with good fittings, and have a little player skill of your own to know how to handle it.
That being said, in my drake I can afk in most L4s and never fall below 50% tank, so its definitely doable once you learn how.

I rate Level 4s as 3x harder than Level 3s - on average. Some Level 4s are complete jokes. Some are really hard. Still, I find that 3 relatively new players (average age - 2.5 months) can complete any Level 4 fairly quickly. Most missions can be done quickly with just a pair of these players. Without having to warp out at all, unless they do something silly (like aggro the entire second room in WC).
By quickly, I mean they can complete it in the same time each of them could complete a solo Level 3 mission.
And, since you make, on average, at least 3x more ISK per Level 4 mission (counting loot, salvage, LP and bounties), it makes sense for three people who are bored with Level 3s to run Level 4s as a gang.
Get one person in a well-tanked Drake (or some other BC) to tank the damage and kill frigates and cruisers. Get another person in any well-balanced BS to kill battleships and BCs and you have a winning combination for most Level 4 missions. What do I mean by well-balanced BS? A BS that has a decent tank, but not an amazing tank.
Although you can usually count on the NPCs to aggro on the first person in or the first person to shoot, successive waves may aggro on anyone. So, it's good to have a decent tank on every ship taking part in the mission.
Looting and salvaging is of course 3x faster as well, because you have 3 people doing it.

Lvl 3 missions are roughly balanced around battlecruisers, lvl 4s are roughly balanced around battleships. Getting into a battleship can be done relatively fast, but flying it well takes a fair amount of skilltraining. This is just the way it is, you invest time into the game and you reap the rewards. But you don't 2/3 years of training to make lvl 4s easy, my char is just over a year old and I'm doing them just fine, and have been for the last 6 months. Using a mission guide is also a huge help, knowing what you're up against can make all the difference.

I amassed 380k LPs doing solo lvl 4 missions for Caldari agents as a 4-5 month character in my Drake with a mix of T1 and T2 stuff. If you want to know my fit and my skills, send me a mail in-game. Slow, but doable and very profitable.

I started doing level 4 missions when I was 3-4months old. They really are no big deal if you know how to fit you ship correctly. I have always found that tank beats gank with missions. Once you have a solid tank figured out its only a matter of time before you win at the mission.

L4's are shockingly easy. I find the bigest difference between L3's and L4's is the use of a brain cell or two. There are a few simple rules to live by and getting your tank sorted is definatly the first step. Learning about the mission will also be a huge help and as its a computer it never changes :''''( After you have figured out what happens you just rinse and repeat till your bored.

Mikal is correct, provided you tank correctly, deal the right damage type and understand your enemies ranges (as in don't get in close with Serpentis etc) lvl 4's can be completed without extreme skill-points or faction kit. There are a few where you will have to warp out, but that gives you the chance to re-dictate range anyway.
Use a little brain-power and you'll find their not so hard. Buy a Gistii booster and know your stuff and you'll find you can cook dinner/play cards/post on the forums etc while running level 4's... it's almost like mining. From there the better your kit the faster you can blaze through them.

What if I armor tank? A gistii booster does not help an armor tanker.
Being a Fleet Commander and a Arbitrator pilot are the same thing - The only difference being that the Fleet Commander commands other people, and the people actually listen to him. |

armor tank or shield tank it doesnt make much difference.
As long as your 100% confident that your tank wont break then you will generally be ok. After all its the tank that keeps you alive..
I shield tank because if it breaks then i have armor + structure before im dead. If your Armor only then once your tank breaks you only have the structure as a buffer to warp out.
with **some** ships you can get a decent passive recharge when some of your dps drops. However, with armor you dont get nowt :)
Armor is generally fine if your tank is capable. the bigger debate with PVE is Auto or Arty :/ but thats a whole different thread :)

Arty 4tw in almost all cases. Autos will get you dead unless your tank is insanely strong. A lot of ships will keep range > autos, forcing you to chase them or leave them to another weapon system. Also, mostly anything smaller than a BS tends to beat the tracking of BS sized autos. In addition, the DPS from npcs gets an order of magnitude higher once they close to their preferred range.
That said, a torp/auto/t2 drone phoon with a perma lar, 5 hards tank can cope with most missions without much fuss. I find this is mostly due to your guns doing stuff all dps generally anyway, especially in comparison to torps and t2 heavy drones.
To the OP, as people have said, it's mostly about tank. Especially at lower skill levels where your gank isn't very impressive. If you're armour tanking I recommend a perma run setup, boost your cap recharge and leave your lar running. This lets you tank constant hardcore dps, and if your tank is failing you can see it clearly and start taking steps to GTFO. Fit the right hards and ammo, ALWAYS.

I started on level 4's at about 3 months into game with a Domi armor tanked. It's doable, though I strongly recommend having a Damage Controll with that setup up first, so that if things do go wrong, it takes awhile for the rats to get through your structure.
When I started level 4's, I found 3 or 4 agents, and would go to each, taking only the easier missions at first, and as my skill points and confidence went up, I started trying harder ones. It's not just that the step up to level 4's is a big step, but there is a large range of difficulty within level 4's. If you are lower skillpoints, and new to level 4's, and try Worlds Collide, you will get your butt kicked. On the other hand, Massive Attack will bore you to tears even at low skill points.

with about 5 mil sp i think it would be possible to solo all level 4s
that is if you straight train up for it. *cough* torp raven *cough*
there was a bit of tweaking that makes level 4s a lot easier.. well if you don't shoot the spawn triggers/get mass aggro
