I bought this the other day as it had a 40 day trial included very pretty game and I had heard good reviews...so I install it and its a omfg big install followed by a 3gb update so I setup an account and wtf PVP and PVE are 2 seperate buttons like seriously? If you have never tried another mmo you do not realise how lucky you are to have Eve.
Yes it's not perfect there are times when I could punch CCP in the balls but credit where it's due after trying Rift for 2 days its sat on my computer and I came back to Eve.....why would an mmo have 2 seperate arenas or is it because having played Eve for a year I'm now spoilt.....games like Rift look good but they're nothing without the heart of PVP....I ran around in Rift and couldn't hurt anyone and they couldn't hurt me......I understand now what the term carebearing means in its fullest sense.....Rift has whole servers full of them and it's not a place I really want to live anymore...
Long live Eve!!! |

I was going to try Star Wars but if its anything like Rift they can keep it...it's all to sterile, I know a game is what you make but it seems that games like that are not down to you, you're spoonfed run around collect stuff kill stuff, level up pick a skill rinse repeat |

After EVE I can not play a game that has PvE and PvP Servers. Or Factions that restrict you for that matter.
EVE has poisoned me. |

My friend made me get Rift and now SWTOR... they both have their quirks but end up being th esame tired MMO formula. At least SWTOR seems to let you solo more. Only lv6 so far myself, but that's what I'm hearing and the early areas all have a group-needed section which seems to be entirely optional.
The story stuff is 'meh' and 'bleh'.

Clearly never played a fantasy MMO before. There are some that try and be uber hardcore... but those mostly fail, and become tedious to replace lost items. The problem with most MMO's these days is the pvp doesnt have a purpose besides stat grinding/just killing others. There's no real goal. That's good for casual players, but even then people get bored with it. For a person like me that doesnt much care for gear grinding... Little there to hold me in a game such as that.
I wished they'd make another DAOC or at least something like it in which pvp was difficult, and required group/s to succeed. You could also hold territory etc.

RIFT is actually a very good game. It's WoW but better IMO. Just because it's not EVE doesnt mean it sucks in any way. It's just a different game. The artwork in RIFT is fantastic. (the artists payed a lot of attention to detail) and the PVP warfronts are pretty good.
I recommned it to anyone looking for a different experience. Solution for scam hauling contracts https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=631233#post631233

RIFT and SWTOR and many other MMO's are all the same.
They recreate the standard formula with all it's problems, thrown in one quirk like a choice of pet for all or the Rift system, then put in game mechanics to solve the same tired old problems or let you go around them. Like overpowered self healing skills to reduce down time. Why not just reduce the down time directly? Picking up loot is annoying, so they put in a menu option to loot one body and hit every body in the area with 'loot all' and everyone thinks that's great... they just made an MMO with over half ranged classes, why did they make us run to bodies in the first place if they're going to do that?
The gaming community all froths at the mouth calling this progress, but to me it says they KNOW what's wrong with the standard formula and they can't be bothered to fix it or they're too afraid to stray too far from WoW and risk not getting any subs. When D3 comes out I'm done with MMO's unles GW2 is just the greatest thing ever. If it disappoints in the smallest way, I'm just done with the genre and I'm already at the point I only played Rift and SWTOR because a friend had me get them. |

Well im not going to hold my breath over GW2, or secret...whatever the hell that one is. MMO hype/advertising really like to exaggerate features, and their impact upon the game. You mostly come to find that said are not as grandiose or in depth as they made seem.
Having watched a few videos of pvp in GW2 it's not looking staggeringly different. And looks like they made it so everyone is hard to kill so no one complains when they do die. Now perhaps the whole skill changing on the fly or leveling skills will add a lot more depth pvp wise, but... Unless there is a larger goal than instances or stat grinding for pvp no thanks. If I want that I can just play an FPS. Which take more skill than acquiring gear, and global cool down button mashing. |

This is where I dead end as well.
I was looking forward to GW2 but really it can't break it's own mold. It's best case scenario is that it's a good MMORPG... but when you're finished the inevitably long and inevitably lengthened process of building your character all you have to look forward to is MMORPG gameplay, and I don't think that satisfies me anymore.
I think PlanetSide2 and Diabo3 are going to be all I play. |

Yeah don't waste your money on new MMO's, they are all failures. I wont test out Rift and I suggest to the OP to avoid SWTOR at all cost no matter how tempting it is, you will come to regret it. |
