So, got a minmatar fighter alt and want to make all his ammo for him, whats the items I should look for. I wont cross train him out of this ammo at all.
I take it their primary guns are projectile turrets like AC's and such? -------

yes if you look under amunition you should see the projectile ammo, look under standard ammo, and you will see the list and be able to info the items.
if you want to build them they only use standard minerals, and the bpo can be bought of the general market, the t1 ones anyways.

Good reply. EMP is probably the most used ammunition with Autocannons. It reduces your optimal by 50%, but as you will already know (or find out very soon) autocannons have a really low optimal anyway. The falloff is where projectile weapons have their advantage. Take a look at the projectile weapons compared to other types of weapons, and notice they have a smaller optimal for their size, but their falloff more than makes up for it.

Really? I've always felt that EMP was situational. It's nice to use for opening up so that you can burn through someone's sheilds quickly, forcing them to go active if they're shield tanking and therefor using cap sooner, but I always thought that once you get through most of their shield, it's better to switch to a different ammo type. Also, if you're working with a 13-14Km range (optimal + falloff), a 50% range reduction is suicide if they have a webber. I tend to use Depleted Uranium more often then not once I've burned through shields since it has a good mix of damage types (minus EM) and there's not a range reduction.
I'm relatively new myself (only about 1.5 months old) so don't think that I'm trying to contradict you in anyway. I'm just trying to figure out if I've been going about this wrong the whole time. Keep in mind that I fly frigs more for PvP and only use Cruisers for the occasional mission.

A good tank will be an omni tank and have no real holes. Emp does the most raw damage.
The actual answer here is to buy Barrage off the market as a minmatar pvp charachter should use tech 2 guns.

Depleted Uranium for the reach and some Tritanium Sabot for the close ups....It's worked for me before. With a halfway decently researched BPO, you'll crank out your ammo for really cheap and have some left over to sell. _______________________________

Along those same lines . . . I have a BPO for antimatter S and I assumed I had to make a copy, then produce from the copy. However, . . there seem to be NO locations with open slots to make BPCs. Is this common? Do slots EVER open up? Should I just make the ammo out of the BPO? I think it has 1500 runs on it . . guess I'll run the numbers and see if it's cost effective to produce from the BPO?

BPO's have unlimited runs. Copies are useful if you plan to be away from your main area of operations, and don't want to risk a costly BPO.
And, yes available lab slots can be quite rare. The good news is that you can reserve a lab slot that's busy. You just lose the use of the blueprint until after your research finishes.
My suggestion is to build a stockpile of ammo to get you through the time that you're waiting for it to research.
