Why have one if you are not going to keep it public and accurate? some major alliances only seem to post kills and no losses. does it give a good description of how you are doing in a war? i dont see how people come on the forums and brag about the end of this alliance or see you in nol or whatever, yet either they dont have a public killboard or dont post losses.

PLEASE DO NOT USE CAPS IT MAKES YOU LOOK LIKE YOU'RE YELLING
Usually killboards are used internally by alliances and corporations to combine information about their financial success (or lack thereof) and coordinate information regarding what the enemy is flying and fighting with. It's also, of course, a way to swing one's massive e-peen about. ------------ ULTIMATE LAG SOLUTION IBTL! IBDS/DC! IBTC! 1st in a BoB post! And other such forum tom-foolery. |

Making a killboard publicly VIEWABLE is common practice, but some corps/alliances prefer to keep that information to themselves for internal statistic tracking. Some alliances prefer to keep their killboard password only accessable by one person because of rampant false killmails getting posted by .... <insert 4 letter corpname here)
It's difficult to make people of corps/alliance post their losses. Most people don't bother because it's 'extra work', but it really does help the alliance/corp in the long run.

its called a "KILLBOARD" not a "LOSSBOARD"
As far as having one and not making it public. Well why show how good you are when you know how good you are.
I'm sure the people they want to know, knows.

So razor doesnt post losses? Its the point, if you have a public killboard you should try to keep it accurate. I mean that is a joke if Eveplayer2007 has 200kills and 0 losses on his board. But on his opponents board he has 200kills and 300losses. Its false advertising, have the balls to post your losses.

its a good way of keeping track of who is pulling there wait and who isnt.
if some corp has very few killmails posted they obviously arent doing much but freeloading unless theres an understanding that there an industrial corp and they are providing something else the the alliance.
same goes for ceos they can keep track of what there members are really doing.
btw most killboards are synced with there enemys once in a while to try to keep them accurate. so even if you dont post your own losses they are likely to end up on there anyway

If you know how good you are, why bother with a killboard at all?

Personally, I can't see why it matters all that much what corporations to with their killboards. They run them, they can do what they want. Hell, to be honest, they can fake a billion Titan kills and claim them as legitimate. You may not like it, I doubt anyone will, and no one will believe them, but they can still do it if they want.

I wish that Eve kept a killboard automatically. That would keep it accurate and then it actually might have some meaning in the game.
BattleClinic.com seems to be one of the best and most widely used external killboards. Its probably cuz of the free sigs. Still, its impartial at least.

killboard cards, like forum cards, don't have any actual effect in game.
their are many uses for killboards other than waving e-peens, i'd tell you some, but the more idiots in the world who don't do these things means more idiots that won't take advantage of it. ---

It all depends on what the killboard is used for primarily.
I know one Corp doesn't allow it's tackling ships to be in their corp, so they don't pull down their corps stats. They have all their Sniper BS's in corp, and you rarly see losses from them, because they warp out the second someone gets close to them. But they loose tacklers(Interdictors, interceptors, Covops) left right and center. But because they think they're mercs, they need to keep their image up for potential employers.
Others use it as a way to track player activity. When I see that playerxxx has been in the corp for 90 days, and has 3 losses, all in Ravens, and mining ships in our "safer" systems that very rarely get any combat, I know he's been carebearing too much. But if I see that he's lost 5 ships in XX system, and had 8 kills in the same system, I know that he's out helping our corp/alliance with pvp.
Others use it as a way to reimburse/keep track of ship losses. This is more common in the corps/alliance's that pay for/reimburse it's members for pvp ships. The Killboards belonging to these groups tend to be very acurate, as they use it as a way of makeing sure their people were in a fight in XXX system, instead of off carebearing in YYY system.
I also use it as a recruiting tool for potential new recruits. If they have a lot of kills, but they're allways in large massive pvp battles, they may not be very good at small scale pvp(5vs5 as an example) or the opposite. They may be experts at solo/small gang pvp, but not good at working in large groups. This lets me ask the right questions at the recruitment phase.
And lastly.. some use it as an ePeen tool, to make themselves look better.

Please... no...
With the advent of killboards this game took a turn for the worse. A official, 100% accurate killboard would just turn it into more of a Counterstrike in space.

I'm in favour of letting people (outside my corp) be cowardly liars. Especially if they're obvious about it

Killboards are more or less useless, except for two things...
1) Morale for the corporation/alliance
2) Pride for the individual
