Quote:New guy here. I'm a big World War II airplane fan. I had nearly every WWII airplane model as a kid. Anyhoo, just curious about this new movie coming out called "Red Tails" about the tuskegee airmen. Would love to get opinions from the best sources in the world....YOU GUYS. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BpA6TC0T_LwWhile I have great apprepreciation for the accomplishments of the tuskegee airmen I am a little concerned about the historical accuracy of this movie and the embellishment of events by historical revisionists. From what I understand the Whites pilots went into the combat zones first and cleared the skies of the enemy fighter pilots. Once the skies were cleared and the front lines moved the tuskegee airman were sent in hundreds of miles behind the front line and mostly in support roles. The tuskegee airmen didn't get to the african campaign until the war was in Italy, then didn't get to italy until the war was in germany, and then didn't get to germany until nearly the entire luftwafee was destroyed. Two great American aviators named Eddie Rickenbacker and Charles Lindburgh tried to offer their more balanced opinion about the accomplishments of the tuskegee airmen, but they were called racists and their characters were assasinated by the media. Lastly and in addition to the physical impossibilities of the maneuvers in the animations, it seems that George Lucas has a very slanted agenda in this film. Just from the trailer Lucus portrays the White fighter pilots as cowards and the mannerisms of the tuskegee airmen is more consistent with a 2012 black rapper then a 1944 humble black man trying to rise up against unjust segregation. I'll hang up and listen. Thanks for taking my call.
This comment was taken off a another forum. After viewing the commerical for this film, I have to agree with the poster. Solution for scam hauling contracts https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=631233#post631233

George Lucas was on the Daily Show talking about how when they were doing it they had Tuskagee airmen with them and according to them it was spot on.

Well, since (according to Wikipedia, but no citations, so kinda' "meh") the entry requirements in the squad were either completed higher education or flight experience, you'd think they'd had to be at least 20 years old or so, so that would make any survivors of those events nearly 90 years old by now. Either way, none of them should have been under 80 when the movie started being produced. Now, I'm not talking about skin colour or anything like that, but simple advanced age and therefore the ability to recount something that happened more than half a century ago with accuracy and especially with no embellishments. Bottom line, I fully expect at least a little bit of exaggeration from the consulting side, both for accomplishments and for the hurdles they had to pass. Then you get the typical Lucasian exaggeration layers spread over that and... well, you get the idea. http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Contributor_name:Akita_T#Contributions_link_collection |

Never take the hollywoodversion of history too serious
In this case there is alot of information available on the tuskegee airmen just need to google it Yes they apeared relatve late during the italian campaign , yes their initial deployment was only in a supporting role
But they ended up as one of the finest fighter units on the ETO, They excelled inescortingo large bomber formations over germany, myth is that they didn t lose a single bomber under their protection from enemy fighters, truth is that they did butthey lost only so few of them They became so good at it that some commanders specially reqursted them for escorting their bombing missions In mid 44 when the p51mustang was introduced as a long range fighter it became common practise to send in a fighter sweep ahead of the bomberstream
But akita is right the special effects look dated I do not agree with what you are saying , but i will defend to the death your right to say it...... Voltaire |

Had friends get an early screening... Estenially see how it demo'd. They said it was "meh" Lucas himself said he made it that way on purpose. "Sterotypes" jingoistic, propoganda. Even if intent was there it still made a meh movie. In which case poor decision making.

George Lucas? Historically accurate?
Given how he handled the prequels for star wars this looks like it's going to be another one of those over produced movies with badly directed CGI sequences ( Really cool but they hardly show much and just show actors doing 'witty' one liners ) this looks like a movie to avoid.
I don't understand why they don't just ditch the whole idea of putting CGI in films that have real life actors in if they can't do it and just make entirely CGI films instead, can you imagine how awesome a warhammer movie would be with a real budget? They didn't do half bad with ultramarines and the dev team clearly didn't have much to work with.
I'm not kidding, the only time I think real actors with CGI has worked is with stuff like District 9, Command and Conquer and Firefly. That's because the people making it clearly knew what stuff would work and what would just look odd, with a lot of movies now it looks like they just plonk what they want in without critiquing it after saying "We need to have that guy actually touching the alien or giant spaceship so it looks real" they've just gone, yep, cool, they'll be happy with that. |

Every movie I have seen in my life that starts with "this is based on a true story" has been 90% bullshit.
Those movies always
A, invent stuff that did not happen for entertainment value B, embellish, exadurate or the opposite C, misrepresent every person, character and make up dialogue and thought. D. historical events that took place are altered in some ways in movies covering those events taking place |

I feel sorry for the real Tuskegee Airmen, or really anybody who Hollywood turns into movie script. You do something significant and exceptional, and instead of it being told the way it really happened, it gets told the way Hollywood thinks it will sell the most tickets. |

I think you nailed it. Star wars was actually just a Hollywood retelling of WW2. True story. |

The same way the redone Star Wars ones do. In fact, the ones in the latest ones look ever so slightly less artificial than these in the Red Tails trailer.
The film has been in the making for 23 years as hollywood wouldn't fund a all black cast movie. So the airmen have been involved for quite a few years, there are only seven of them left now.
Lucas said, it's a 1940s war film that's been delayed due to segregation, it's the war film that should have been made for them at the time of the war.
And they also escourted bombers during the end of the war and saved many lives of the bomber crews.

Actually they made this movie about 20 years ago (George points out that they all died since then) but no studios would do do it. Something about black people... |

This crap movie/trailer so far has more CGI than Toy Story /Finding Nemo and CARS together ....
I mean, completely out of the racial issue, if you placed giant dogs, nordic whitemen or aliens from Z reticuli B Epsilon Gamma, the CGI would still look LIKE CRAP.
MezzoForte, the short famous Hentai has morevivid images and smoother animation on a handjob than the fighter/bombers scene on that trailer and it was cell animation. For a moment I thought I was seeing Xena Warrior Princess monsters!!!
Overall, CGI so bad you feel like you watching a cheap weekend SyFy "original movie" and can only hope the story/plot is somewhat good instead of an absurd Flyboys Part 2 WWII Edition meh. Inner Sayings of BrujoLoco: http://eve-files.com/sig/brujoloco |
