ALright so me and a guy from my corp were mining in 0.8 space and an ore thief came to the belt. I'm all for ore thieves in the game but this guy attacked me when i was in my indy and we made no aggressive actions towards him. My indy got blown up and concord never showed up to help for some reason. Anyone have any idea why that would happen? It's the second time its happened to my corp so far.

If you take the ore back, you get flagged to him and he can aggress you. I'm assuming that's what you did. If not, I've heard whispered rumors of a can flag exploit lurking around, so theres a chance that was it, but I'm not going to go in to detail for fear of mods banzoring me

Did either of you have drones outside when he was messing about with your can?

I bet this is the same thing that happened to me a few weeks ago. I don't want to be banned either, but you should know that unless that bug has been fixed, just don't touch ANY cans after you've been thieved from. His, yours, anybody's. Just write it off and fly away, unless you WANT to fight.

you may have done some thing like this: open his can, see the ore after it was stolen from your can to his can. if you order by type or perform any sort of action within someone else's can you are criminally flagged.
all in all if you are unhappy with the service the ore thieves are doing please report to me by eve mail your position in eve universe times of mining operations. we could provide a better service perhaps.

Best is to check who the owner of the can is, if the ore got swapped you prolly took from the ore theifs can.
To avoid this, only take from white containers. Any yellow container aint owner by you/corp.

You should just mine into secure cans, they let you hold more in a hauler anyway, or have a friend ganged and picking up the ore as soon as it's dropped.

using a bc or a bs can also work for mining, better tnak and it'll discourage thieves from stealing from you.

you placed a rubbish can in space and then filled it with ore. why should concord stop ppl taking out of your rubbish can? now they let you shoot them for it which u can choose to or not. and if u take stuff from their rubbish can then they can shoot at you. pretty simple.

ok so i was one of the guys that was there mining. i had no drones out mining in a hulk and the hauler was taking the ore out of the can when i put it in there. now it seems that when the ore thief took the ore out of the can he didnt fire. but when the hauler took the rest of the ore out of the can that the thief did not take (we didnt care about the 2k veld that he took) the thief would target and then fire on the hauler and kill him. so in other words we did not take the ore he stole, we did not fire on him, and we did not sick the drones on him and still concord never showed up.
and just to reamp for the ppl that will say "you must of took from him that is way you were flagged." WE DID NOT TAKE FROM HIM. ok. so what is ccp going to do about this.

He only has to touch the ore inside your can to make it his, this is what im understanding. As soon as you touch your own ore - moved by him in the same can its classed as stealing -his- ore.
Answer: just dont jettison or touch ore in a can once approached by another ship if you dont want to die.

he probably flipped your ore into a can of his own and named it the same when u weren't looking. not uncommon. get over it.

That's getting a bit carried away.
Standard procedure for an ore theif is: approach can, jettison 1 ammo, open both cans, drag your ore from your can into his. In some cases all ore will be dragged so your can pops. While there may be a can in the same location it might not be your can.
Listen to Sean Dillon's advice check that the can isn't yellow. If it is verify the owner before grabbing the ore.
I agree I don't have the features to be a holoreel star. Most people have missed the point that this is Mobsters Online and that carebears are at the bottom of the foodchain. |

I swear no one actually reads the posts before they reply. How many times do we have to say that we didn't even take back the ore, look in his can, etc before someone get's the clue? ;) It's obviously something that people are able to use to their advantage (whether it's a bug or what), so it seems like CCP would be more interested in getting the situation under control. People should not be able to blow up and indy that is just sitting there hauling. I don't care about ore thieves, they're going to be there reguardless, but I think abusing a bug is not tollerable.

There seem to some race condition where you can get flagged to a thief taking something from your own can if it happens exactly at the same time the thief is stealing it. Word of the street was that it was only something that happened with macrominers (and yes when they flashed as I stole from them I blew them up) but it seems you just proved it wrong. I never could find the exact condition that made this happen so never submitted a bug report I admit. And it's the first instance of a player dying to it I hear when many macrominers died to it.
I would say petition+bugreport.
Likely CCP not putting locks where they should, see the empty jetcans created when you empty wrecks as you salvage them...

It's been mentioned here in these forums before - Last I heard not considered an exploit and not listed as a bug.
If he has your ore selected and dragged to a can and you have it selected and drag - you have a dual ownership issue, at that point in time it is "owned" by both of you.

I've had a couple of occasions where a miner has unexpectedly aggroed me. Both times it appears to have been while both of us have been attempting to move ore in cans. But it's an odd bug, if bug at all, as there's many other occasions where it could have happened, but hasn't.

What a load of crap, seeing a BC or BS mining only encourages me to steal their can. Why? Cos if all 8 slots (say Rokh) are full of mining lasers then they have no defense other than drones. Drones can be taken out pretty damn easy, once they've gone you've got all day to take down the BC/BS.
Now if the BS is tanked then yes you may need a cruiser, but if it's a crap fit then a frigate is more than enough, i've taken on mining Abaddons, Rokhs, Harbingers, in an Incursus.
The reason it's more encouraging to take one of these on is, 1: it's a disgrace to the ship class to see them sat their blasting roids, 2: the ransom is better than on a barge :)

It gets some people flagged that didn't take any aggressive action. For any other company than CCP it would be an obvious bug.

How quickly did he take off? Sometimes after suiciding into a t2 fitted barge I have time to warp away to a planet and take the concord hit there. Less "suspicious" than having concord sitting in the belt.
