Why are the gate pirates in low security zones (0.0-0.4, but 0.0 especially) so gimpy. All the powerful pirates hang out at the belts, it makes no sense. Have a cruiser or two at the gates, make travel more exciting!

and what kind of special forces do you again belong to?
the veldspar eaters?
low sec (and particularly 0.0) should have NPC pirates strong enough to keep indys from passing. this would force ppl to use escorts, finally giving the fighting proffesions some purpose.
of course this would need fixing gang- and highsec space issues. looks like february 2009 for me...

Just ran into a sansha ravisher and a couple manslayers at a 0.3 gate. They were 40km away,I started shooting at them and they warped out. Went to the other gate and no one there(only 2 gates in that system)?

Well this is interesting. You rather be shot by a NPC than a PC in a Massive Multiplayer Online Game?

A suggestion such as that has many more ramifications than you may think.
As it stands dedicated mob hunting is nearly on par with mining minerals as far as isk per hour is concerned. In fact if you get lucky with the drops it can far exceed what is available to a miner.
Now factor in that said miner needs muscle in the belt to clear it, must have an indy haul it and then with your suggestion would then need to hire escort to move it. Mining in tough areas on an isk per hour per man would drop to a point where it would be a waste of time to engage in.
Mining does need to be profitable and I think the risk vs reward is already pretty darn close before adding in more risk.

Go to an asteroid belt or travel through warzones if you want more excitement. Plenty dangers out there for industrials all ready.

Where did I say that? All I'm saying is if I'm in low sec, and gate npc pirates shoot at me, it'd be neat if they weren't the same frigate pirates I killed when I was flying level 1 missions.
