Probably beaten to death already but...
When I look at pictures of space it looks black. The universe in Eve always have some kind of weird color (im colourblind, so cant tell exactly which one). Would be nice to have it all black with just stars and stellar objects.
Also, i doubt those gas clouds we see everywhere are in the visible spectrum in cosmos.
Just a suggestion.

Nice Idea! I had a grafik bug yesterday that made the space black (don't know why, had something to do with the starmap) and the game looked alot better. can't you implemant a feture in the grafic options to make the space balck, so that if a player wants balck space he can have it and if he likes it colored he can leave the option untouched? ------------------ Believing is not wanting to know the truth! |

Edited by: Kamen on 02/08/2007 01:09:31 What's most annoying is that if you spin your camera around a ship (caldari ship at least), you get these weird reflections that don't make sense. They reflect off of nebulae ans dome odd light sources.
I would prefer to have empire space be as-is, but as you go deeper into 0.0, I'd expect things to become pitch-black if you are looking at them behind a star because there's nothing to reflect from.
Also the planets/moons should have appropriate lighting too. They are always bright in all directions.
Edit: Empire is closer to the galactic center - galactic centers ARE indeed bright due to all the stars packed so tightly (and abundance of molecular clouds?). Maybe we could also "condense" the map in such way that near the center stars are closer to each other to add more realism.
To further enhance the realism it would be simply stunning if the planets and moons would actually orbit. ------------------------------------------------ (Recruiting ad) SRBI regrutuju! Dodjite na nas javni SRBI kanal. |

Well a pitch black space with no colour would be very boring, and the lighting in my experience has been spot on. Planets are black on one side (jump into Ney from Adrallazoen [think that's the one], or into Bosena from Oddelulf and you'll get a pitch black planet as the star is on the other side. I also get sides of my ship being dark because the star is on the other side.
This is a game. It's the one place where space can actually look interesting. As a result, I like it how it is.
P.S.: about empire being closer to the galactic centre... we don't know that. We're in a part of a galaxy, not every binary system in the galaxy... much further to go yet, hobbitses.
### I nearly finish carriers, and they nerf it. I nearly finish Amarr recons, and they make them useless. Vagabond pilots beware... I have bought Minmatar Cruiser. |

If you want realism, there's a lot of other stuff that'd have to go aswell: Think about cycling MWD/AB once and keeping the speed forever, bumping, sound... oh wait, the new sisi patch did away with that already ______

actlly in EON 3 and 4. They talk abot a new system where light will react to graivity within a system and beam though space before hitting your ship. ----------------------------------- I'm working my way through college target CCP

When writing my post I realized this. I included it anyways because I couldn't think of anything else...
And: The colorful backgrounds are just the same as the sound, artificially created visualizations of background radiation outside the visible spectrum. I'm sure there would be some use for that... well, y'know ______

Yes, the vast majority of space is absolutely black.
However, we never see the vast majority of space - the systems visited represent the interesting bits that have been colonised. _____________________________________________

well wouldn't it be more interesting when all space is black except on certain rare places like exploration sites etc..? Now we say wow that's nice when a graphic glitch makes the background black. It should be the other way around: a nice cloud should astonish us.

Relax guys, I just think it would look cooler
Also, if you check out NASA videos, the light from our sun is pretty intense in space. To the point the light from further stars becomes negligible, would be cool to have such effects in the upcoming graphic engine revamp.

Well as with any 'eye candy', why not make it optional? So purists like me can turn it off and enjoy the beauty that is the deep blackness of oblivion, while the color-happy libertarians can enjoy what I preceive as sensory overload
So please allow us to turn off clouds and stuff. I vastly prefer the 'map-bugged' space over the correct one.
