Because we wouldn't do something like that, and if anyone actually did, that person would be fired.

You mean YOU wouldn't do that, and if someone actually DID they would only get fired if they got caught.
After all, with EVE the 'oops, server suddenly went boo-boo' is a perfectly reasonable and understandable excuse, no?

maybe because such things does not grant people an extra 15 minutes beer break, but makes them have to work over their normal beer-and-bree break

No, it makes SOMEONE have to work over lunch, but not NECESSARILY the guy who did it.
For all you know, the guy just wanted to end a 12 hour shift early so he could go home and sleep.

I shouldn't be fixing the server, if they let me near any of that stuff it would probably get worse just by me looking at it.
No, I can't shut down the server personally, not everyone at CCP has access to that stuff.

I doubt the one running the servers at the time gets to go home if a break down occurs. he is the only one who has some kind of knowlage about what happened

I like that the client keeps telling me that the server is fine, it just checked (35 minuttes ago), this number increases as the time passes, when I was refused back on around 10.50 it told me it had checked 5 minuttes ago. Anyone else seeing the fun there? http://elune-ferret.spaces.live.com/

I appreciate that CCP has a guy like Wrangler who comes here and answers these banal questions. Here's hoping the server is up at the normal time!

Well, here it goes, the databased failed over at 10.55, it seems like a replication task began and the database stopped working as it should.
We had active traces running so we have now the exact errors and locks that will be reviewed later today and we can finally bring this to a resolution.
And for those of you that understand technical things as well as I do, server went boom, and we will look into the exact issue and fix it so it doesn't happen again.

Sooooo, if I'm reading this right, completely out of the blue a task began that made the server go boom? Because usually such tasks are scheduled to start at precise times, OR someone is tasked to start them at precise times. Or does the database replicate itself randomly?

sure... kinda like the dev misconduct that wasn't punished? MEhh ok mate I mean no offense to you but CCP's credibility has been a thing of the past for quite some time.
The posters argument is valid.. IF you Do not know what happened.. (What you said) then how can you say that someone just didnt shut it down early.
The only way you would know this is you DO know what happened and you are not telling us.
My 2 cents worth..

My case is probably not connected to this particular issue but since Rev 2.2 my eve client ocasionally drops like it lost connection although my internet connection is fine because I usually talk on ventrilo and use other programs. This happens from time to time randomly. This never happened to me before Rev 2.2
Anyone else having same issues? I had to petition trade transaction twice because connection dropped during trade and all items in trade window were gone and it also happened few times while flying in space.
