I have to go to sleep. I'm probably not the only one in this situation. If I do, my drones and ore will be gone. The wreck loot and salvage will be lost anyway, since wrecks seem to disappear over dt.
This is poorly handled.
Do you think running something like EVE is simple? Things go wrong, like..your personal computer x 100000000. Give the guys a break, in the meantime we'll all shed a tear for your irreplaceable drones and ore.
I've personally worked on critical systems serving 2-3 times as many users with subsecond response. There are many critical systems larger than Eve-O. Credit and debit payment systems and banking systems dwarf Eve-O and rarely go down or make mistakes. I'm not a PC weenie. PCs are crap. I'm a mainframe and minicomputer guy with 40 years of real time communications programming under my belt.
This year-long experience with Eve-O has certainly taught me something, though: I'll never use or recommend MS SQL Server for anything.
it is a little fewer calculations neccesery to just checking a few numbers against a database and then lower another number. and you can hardly call credit card systems fast. they lag more than eve does.
it is not a matter of users, it is a matter of calculations/second.

Originally by: Fok Mie As much whining that is done and the 'grow up' 'get used to it' etc comments from the peanuts playing this game. You need to remember that ths is a service we are PAYING for. They are already down 1 hour every 24 for service and maintenance.
Question for you simpletons that think these sudden outages are ok. If you come to my store, pay for a stereo or TV and I give you one and it only works sometimes, you ok with that? Or you want what you are payng for?
So you expect to be reimbursed for a 15 minute outage ... lets see now ...
$15 per mon and at 23 hours a day for 7 days a week and 4.3 weeks (avg) per month that is 692.3 hours per month or about 2.17cents per hour or .5 cents for this outage ....
get a life.

Rather than CONCORD Notice: Donuts raise cholesterol levels.
Would a 'server status' not be more appropriate?

Okay, I didn't notice that it's past up time, but I'd expect a comment on things, well now. I'm fine with the server is down still, but I want to know why. A simple erhhh somethings wrong we don't know what but we're working on it, would be fine. Give me that. Give me now.

We used to get free days when CCP f###ed up but suddenly that was changed without any public statement... why should we have to pay for the times CCP is incapable of providing the promised service?
Even WOW or Hello Kitty Online reimburs their players when they're unable to provide a stable server for the players to login to... that IS what we are paying you for... not for "something happend"-threads in the forums.
i would rather have them used that money to fix the server
Yeah well if that would change anything then OK. The problem with not having any reimbursment is more that there are absolutley NO consequences for CCP when they work badly. If they don't manage to run the server 23/7 then who gives..? They still get the same amount of cash from all us smacktards even though we could not play the game for that time. Now when Blizzard f###s up (which happens much less then it happens to CCP) then they start giving all the people free game time.. (sometimes to the tune for many 100k $ over the entire playerbase) and this somehow shows that blizzard (or CCP) are interested in fixing the problem.. even if it's only so they don't have to pay out 50 mil $ in reimbursment time... CCP has no such measure so failure doesn't hurt CCP the way it should! |

Replication is an process like copying a file for backup purposes (compared to an personal computer situation), just this is an database function which is much more complicated because it involves mirroring of all database values or else the process will fail (you cannot work with it if it is missing an field, compare it to corrupted files).
There is an chance that this might be related to time desync between servers as i noticed that eve servers started getting more and more off from the time services. This can cause problems like tasks kicking off to soon which locks up everything.
Example of what happens (for people more into databases): Client sends module activation, the table handling this state locks the table to make the changes while progressing all other activities (failover switch fails to clear event because of mis-sync). Replication process starts before the failover switch completed and waits for the table to get freed up, however this never happens and causes an database lockup state which kicks the client and as an result cannot send the command that prevents tables keeping locked up. Crash happens because this effect rapidly builds up now involveing possibly the majority of the tables.
Replication is really needed however because if eve wouldn't run with replication then if an harddisk crashed, an ram module failed or any other kind of malfunction happend it would certainly lead to loss of information (think about rollback situations of minutes upto hours which where not uncommon on WOW / lineage 2 in the start for people familier with the beta / first year of operation of these).
When there is an database failure or reboot of database related services you will generally get the "error page". When there is an serieus database lockup the whole site will go down and in firefox you get the error message "connection to server has been reset". With ISP issues you generally get the "server could not be found" related errors.

Quote: Pity Eve doesn't move to something more sensible, scalable and reliable like DB2, MySQL or Oracle.
Scalability and MySQL in one sentence. Oh the irony ...
Anyway, I find those "uh, if you dont like it, leave it" comments mildly amusing, because those guys have no fsckin business saying that to anyone. Who are you? A self-proclaimed CCP spokesman? I want a CCP official to give a final comment on QoS/SLA/EULA in regards to service delivery. Now, what is it - 99%, 95%, 90% uptime guarantee? If they make it clear that random downtime is OK for them and not a reason for reimbursement or any other form of repayment, then some players might have finally the answer they've been looking for and can move on to better things. With 3 competitors releasing similar games in the next 6 months CCP might find the need to improve their CRM processes. I don't know a single company that ignores customer requests and demands and was not washed out of the market.

Back on topic, well 3 attempted restarts should equal 3 times as many exploration and encounters to run which should keep al lthe PVEers happy for a while and give us a good solid boost to related supply side which still lacks in most areas, good work CCP

Your not actually asking people to READ the forum are you? Im pretty sure there are some people who are just here to vent, to those people I flip the bird, to everyone else I appreciate your input even if no-one else cares, if you dont like outages, there are several EXCELLENT games available that have no server outages, such as pong and fallout.
That is all.
** edit ** the above games may or may not contain servers, comments posted by this person may contain traces of scarcasam

Originally by: Linda kays As I read it, the time server got the time wrong, and told the other server they were 5 minuttes behind, that started a chain effect of replications. Now the time issue started at 10.45 to be more precise, or atleast things started going south at 10.45 which collides with the 15 minutte warning, just a thougth.
Yeah , it went south at 10.45 NOT 10.55 , so your server guys aren't even looking in the right spot for the cause.
