I'm not a; new player but I still struggle with searching for stuff in market without the slightest idea of how to actually find what I want. For example, why are cargo expanders indexed under "expanded" cargo. I mean when I m; looking for something about cargo, it makes sense to search under cargo, not expander, or extender or whatver the frak it is under. And the incredibly long names of stuff, which are always reduced to iniatials and i have no idea what most of them refer to. What is MWD...something warp drive? macor warp drive, micro warp drive...and where is it under market search engine. Certainly not under micro or macro or whatever it is.
It seems to me that the genius (so called) geeks that programmed this incredible cumbersome and bleak universe could at least as a librarian or someone how to index stuff so people could find.

I'm pretty sure that if you searched for "cargo" expanded cargoholds would show up. The market search toolbar does do partial matches. ------------ ULTIMATE LAG SOLUTION | Forum Whiners - Unite! |

If you're not using the search tab, you should. Makes life so much easier.

As a former programmer of, among other things, webshops, I'd like to see something like this:
"We see you acquired an Iteron Mk V. You might be interested in the following products as well: - Expanded Cargohold II - Tractor Beam I"
Yes, this is only half a joke, but cross selling would be fun tho. Make the list based on say the top 3 of modules used on the type of ship. ---

I'd quite like to see the search results have a "synch to browse" button, so that once I've searched for "cargo", and selected a result item so that it open in the right hand pane, with a single click the search tab switches back to the browse tab and selects the item, opening all necessary groups to get to it.

Your grievances are minor at best. I certainly had difficulty getting to grips with the market when I started out, trying to remember the names of all the ship modules that I needed to buy, realising what market division they were in etc.
Once you get used to it, it becomes as easy as pie, especially with the search option, and now the variations button for modules makes finding the right module for you on the market even easier. And then there's the market quickbar option. And then there's the ability to sort by price or proximity, or quantity.
Essentially, with practice, using the market to buy the things you need can't get any easier. You'll become a deft hand in no time. |

Personally, the more user-hostile and difficult to use the market interface is (within reason), the happier I am
It means that the number of folk who will persevere with it long enough to actually get a handle on how to use the market will be lower than it would be if it was all laid out for you.
I make most of my income trading various commodities on the market and anything that puts people off trying to take a bite of my action cannot be a bad thing.
I don't know.... next you'll be expecting folk to post ship set-ups on the forums which actually work Gah, the very idea!! |
