Ok...It's been almost 4 months since I've played EvE and it is starting to get to me...All I have been doing is wondering what I am going to do if I can't get my fix...and I've also been remembering alot of my fights in EvE:
One such instance is this one...a story of pure and utter dishonor.....
It started off a regular day for my corp, as we prepared to station camp our war targets who...well just wouldn't undock...EVER. It was I in my Apoc and one other member (everyone else was doing other stuff) in his Bomber. We got bored so we started posting in local that I wanted to fight someone. Well some female avatar guy answers and says sure. All I wanted was a 1 vs 1, and she/he agreed to it. So I move away from the station and sit there waiting. When it took she/he more than 30 secs to show up we knew something was up. "she/he is setting you up Ryan," my buddy said. I agreed, he was right and we knew she/he had a large gank coming. "You need to plan out traps better," I said in local...She/he said that she/he didn't know what I was talking about. I said ok just show up and take the can. She/he did and the moment I opened fire local exploded with 12 new characters and soon I was taking fire from all sides. Cruisers, 2 BS and frigs were attacking me...all I saw were explosions and my poor Apoc bouncing like a pinball from all the missles. "Sigh...I told you to set up a better trap...tsk tsk...you dihonoured a 1 vs 1.." The reply to this was "You wouldn't have honoured a 1 vs 1 so stop ******* talking..."
I was saddend by this...you see, of the many people I have 1 vs 1ed I have always honored it...and even though my corp mat kept asking me if he should jump in, I said no.
This was for 2 reasons: 1. Ok my shields went down...but since when does Ammar tank shields? and 2. This no-good she/he needed a lesson in humility...there was no need to point fingers and spit profanity at me...plus I hate it when people tell me I do things or did something I have never done or would never do (my RL Commander can testify on that one...chewed him a new ******* this week...even though I am lower enlisted)
So it was a 10 vs 1... my dual rep tank was holding (75-80% on everything for teh win)since they must have forgotten to bring Nos...and my Mega Pulses and drones had chewed through the cruisers and frigs. Soon it was just me, the raven and the geddon. The Geddon stopped fireing (I had Nosed it all away so I was eating his armor and hull while still holding my tank by nosing away at the raven... So I stopped repping...I had the Geddon pinned with webber and scram but I wanted to make the raven think that she/he could stay, fight me and win (a few times I was actulally afraid that this might happen). My armor went down almost as slow as the geddons...but soon the geddon was gone and I focused all my energy on the Raven... As soon as my armor reached about 5% I started repping and back to 100% in a few secs I was. Soon this message after pops up: "Please, I'll give you 100mil for my ship"
My answer was simply "....." "NO" and I blew him/her up. All in all it was a good day...never had I thought a fight with such incredible odds stacked against me would turn out so awsomely in my favor. Maybe it was the fact that I was fighting noobs who don't know how to fit a ship...maybe it was luck...but all in all it got my adrenaline pumping...and thinking about it makes me miss EvE....
SOMEONE GET ME SATELLITE INTERNET OUT HERE!!!!
The End
The moral of the story: Don't dishonour 1 Vs 1...and if you do...make sure you can kill the ship youre about to fight...oh and don't **** people off... ------------------- New account on EvE-Online...$19.95 100 Day GTC...$49.95 2 Month supply of German beer...$200.00

I see that you have the moral high ground on this one but if it would've been me I would have took the money for he/she's ship. Then stated that that was the fine for dishonoring the 1v1 and proceeded to destroy the raven. I like twisting the knife a bit.
Why are you still reading? Its over. Continue to the next post.

Isn't it better to lead by example in that circumstance? Just because they do it to you doesn't make it right to do it back.
I know-- we are all here to have fun, and we all have fun in different ways. Some like to hold to a modicum of self-discipline, and others think that is a waste of time. But I'm encouraged that there are at least a few people around who would rather win the honorable way than no way.

Sweet fight and fair play to you. Must have been an adrenaline rush. I personally would not bother with 1v1s as crap like this happens but well done for coming out on top and also getting your mate to stand-off (but fair enough for him to offer to jump in too!).

Thanks for your counter productive post.... To other people...sometime people think that just because you are in highsec camping your stupid wartargets because they won't go anywhere BUT highsec (we closed lowsec off to them) That you fly a non-pimped ship...so they decide to fly multiple non-pimped ships.
Look at April 28th and 29th
Those were my last 2 days here...and that was just me and one corpmate in a guardian providing me with cap. Fight lasted one hour and someodd minutes...afterwards thay had about 2 drakes and a raven after me...but since they couldnt break my tank everyone just ended up leaving.

There is no moral high ground in Eve.
There is no "honour" either. That sort of thing applies to paladins and such in WoW. ------------------

Nah theres defenently honor in eve. You can play any kind of charachter you like in EvE. You can be a honorable anti pirate that fight for the week or whatever. Its a MMORPG after all. You can be a dishonorable pirate aswell, or honorable.
Today I killed two mission runners with 2 guys from a corp our corp has had some fights with even that same day. And some weeks ago I tried to kill one of these guys in a gate camp. But I probed the mission runners and was desperate and asked for help, as I had noticed while scanning that they also scanned for them. They joined in and we killed em together. They could have killed me afterwards but didnt. They even gave me 1/3 of the loot. Now thats to honor your word. See the Thing about Eve is most pilots are older then 13 so they do tend to care about honor. Thats why people get bashed so bad for not honoring 1v1 or ransoms. Some kiddies should just go play wow would make eve a whole lot better.

I agree. Pirates who truly are pirates will ransom and keep their word.
Here is my tale of 2 punks.
Drake engages me (port22) and begins the fight. I return fire, and he logs. His friend (baudolino) comes and saves him with a astarte. Mind you, I was in my Myrmidon and 1000DPS is just too much for my tank.
So I lost. I was asked to a 1 vs 1 and I got shafted.
Learned a lesson, and passing it along.
These guys are just out to grief and make EVE miserable.
But good job to taking out those guys (Reference to OP)

Honoring ransoms has nothing to do with maturity. It also has nothing to do with real-life morals. This is a game. Believe it or not, but in an MMORPG you can actually play a character that is vastly different from your real-life persona.

yea you can but i dont think thats the way it is. If your a **** bag yoru a **** bag in game or out if you ask me. Now if you have good morals i am not saying you cant pirate or such. See thats why most pirates honor ransoms and such at least the good ones. There not **** bags, they want to role play and they do. But they still honor ransoms and such.
Oh and btw i really dont care what you or ne one else thinks i know its a game. Just how i feel so dont be getttin all preachy with me.

OK....um what is it you are trying to say here?
And back on topic: Look...your right...this is a game...and even if you are a dirtbag in RL that doen't mean you can't honor anything. I am not always honest ingame or out...but if there is one thing I am it is honorable. That is a trait that is hard to take away, just like saying please or thank you is, most people do it even in the game. It also becomes a bad habit when you are not playing a game because you may (no saying some of you will...but the younger ones that play) will become paranoid and be all: "well since I know I would do this to him/her, he/she may do this to me first" And that is a bad method of thinking.
To the guy that said that if I want honor there is WoW...hell I played WoW when it was in beta...for 2 days...and then thought...hmm I wonder if I can get the hang of Eve...which as you can see..I did. There is honor anywhere...real life or gamewise. It's just so much easier to be an ass in the game...and it just shows the true nature of some people. Bet that if I met most of you in real life you wouldn't be the way you post or the way you play ingame...because that would't be socialy acceptable. I play how I am, and I am how I play...although I don't have a big ship with lasers...I do carry a big gun that shoot a small laser visible only with IR

I think the ppl that has a charchter in game that way differs from their RL persona are the ones that enjoy this game the most.
When I pirate sometimes I make some roleplaying out of it, if the victim plays along its great fun for both parties, no matter who gets blown upp in the end. Signature removed - please reduce your signature graphic height to less than 120 pixels - Jacques([email protected]) |

Edited by: Lostat Yggdrasil on 05/08/2007 21:20:03 Edited by: Lostat Yggdrasil on 05/08/2007 21:19:29 Well, I'm response to the original poster, I feel for you I genuinely do, but I must say that in terms of combat in a world as ruthless as EVE, it is perfectly fair game for someone to seek the advantage, however that may be achieved. In many cases this means gaining an advantage in terms of ship numbers, some other times by one ship clearly out-gunning the other. So, whilst it may have seemed dishonorable it was a reasonable tactic employed by your opponent.
On the point of profanity, I think that rudeness and smacktalk of that sort is totally unacceptable and just shows such individuals up for the scummy idiots they probably are when people call them on it.
The level of brutality in EVE is what sets it apart from other MMORPGs' and, well, is this really any more unfair than a 4-year old pirate in a Megathron podding a two week old pilot in an Ibis (that is what happened to me when I started playing EVE and it was a lesson well learnt)? Fight hard, fight well and fight in accordance with your gaming ethics, but just never expect others to share or honour the same values in EVE that you hold true to.

MEEATYOU - that`s the third time we killed you in 3 days? Stop whining, you`re making your corp look as bad as yourself.
It took 10 seconds to kill you and with your crap setup there was no way you were gonna take down his passively tanked Drake even after he lost connection.

Thank you Ryan! These Jackass's are pirates and can't be trusted period. Bunnyslayer has been known to kill off his on corpmates who decide they don't like the corp and want to move on. When I first joined Eve his group lived in low sec around Eitu and terrorized all around that area. He for some reason (Probably because we we nubs at eve) decided to come after our corp and kept on killing us in low sec and tried to get us to wardec him so he wouldn't have to pay the fee. Then when we wouldn't he finally paid the bill and wardeced us. They always felt they were better then anyone else in eve and I'm very glad you were able to pay them back.
Good Job!
