My first kill in non-consensual PVP...
Well I'm a relatively new player (April '07) and I've tried out a variety of things on eve from ratting, missions, building my own stuff - oh and learning some hard lessons in low sec ;) The first couple of pvp experiences were jokes - I barely lasted a minute getting unexpectedly jumped in a belt (the hell is a scanner for anyways?). So I've decided against going for bigger is better and just working on improving my durability in smaller ships (frigs, cruisers, and battle cruisers) with support skills. Man did that pay off! I hopped in my trusty Merlin (for once a frigate besides a Rifter should attack people) and went around ratting in low sec hoping someone would mistake me for lunch and attack me.
Well a thorax jumped in and targeted me while I was ratting a Gurista Moa, and I quickly warped to my safe spot. No need to make the guy's job any easier. I promptly scanned and saw he was still there and warped back hoping the Moa had aggroed him. Sure enough, he's firing away on my target...
That's when I decided to cross the line
I kick on the afterburners get within blaster and rocket range - lock - web - scram - and fire away! I'm glad I've worked on my nav skills a bit - I'm keeping my transverse over 400 m/s to keep his medium ion blasters missing. Meanwhile my former prey, the Gurista Moa is taking some pot shots at him instead of me (free DPS).
My heart is pounding like crazy...
I'm firing away with phalanx rockets and lead shot trying to bust his armor tank. I'm hitting the scanner like a disobediant step-child hoping no one else is trying to take advantage of my fun.
He's hit structure
Damn the small capacity of rocket launchers! Reload - reload damnit! Oh sh@t you dumb @ss you forgot to get more phalanx rockets - I switch to thorns and foxfires...
Kaboom!
How come my mail isn't flashing? Damnit - the Gurista got the final blow. Bah - who needs a kill mail - I just got my first kill in a frig vs. cruiser.
I reach for my fourth beer...

Thanks I look forward to the next hunt (even if I'm the prey).
And Vlad - I'll admit your tax stories did inspire me to write about the event.

Hope you enjoyed that rush because you will be chasing that forever now. Soon enough you be jumping bigger/better ships, than when that fails you give you enough of a rush you start loading up your ship with things you cant afford to lose, just to get your quick fix. So allow me to say this truthfully, Welcome to the Dark Side.

Now that's the right attitude for Eve ! T1 frigates are terribly underrated and can be kickass if you specialize in them (then you get the right skills for T2 frigs as well) but just a hint : if you use blasters , antimatter ammo is better in all cases , lead is good for railguns (which will get more out of the merlin's range bonus)
It's all too rare to see new players like you , playing the game as intended - with your brain. If you do manage to find like-minded friends , you could stir some trouble with a frigate gang , consider flying the griffin for that.

GJ on figuring out what a vast majority of the EVE populace has yet to understand. It's the lesson that will serve you longer and better than any pimped battleship.
Welcome to the top of the foodchain - and good luck with your new career choice.

Edited by: Omarvelous on 05/08/2007 17:59:30 Thanks for the encouragement - I'm working with a friend of mine to setup a little hunt gang. We've been testing out some strategies and learning a lot about the strength and weaknesses of our setups. For example, I've noticed a lot of PVPers are fans of microwarp drives, but in my frigate I was getting hit more often running the microwarp drive vs. the afterburner (trying to orbit 3500 m at 1500 m/s with a large sig vs. 550 m/s with a small sig) - I can see how the microwarp drive lets you close in quick, but once you're close you've gotta do some damage quick or you're WTFBBQed! Finding a good nos to neut ratio to maintain/break tanks, etc. ______________________________________________ Sup brosef! |

The MWD is usally used to get in range, not to orbit at that speed.

This thread makes me wonder how carebears get a rush???? I guess its when they fire that first strip miner at the roid... or is it when the roid pops????
Nothing more exciting then blowing somebody up Hells
Let me liberate you of your T2 mods. T2 mods are dropping in price, because of invention?? No its because of pirates. |
