Yeah yeah - it may be an old question, but it needs to be asked again and again.
Especially when considering the inflation and all that.
So - at what amount would you say an individual (note - not alliance) can be considered rich ?

Rich is when you can earn more money through leveraging your current cash than from grinding for more (missions, mining, etc).

I'm one of those guys that keep spending my ISK, no reason to horde it in my opinion... Unless I want to buy MC that is.

think that is a good definition.
But also rich is related to what you do with your money. If you are a dedicated interceptor pilot.... 1 bil is pretty rich for you. If you are a carrier pilot 1 bil is dangerously close to bankrupt.
I consider myself wealthy when i can pay 10 times the price of the ship+setup that i want to be flying.

The moment you say "what the heck am I supposed to do with all these ISK ?". Which can be as low as a few hundred mil, or a few hundred bil, depending on person.
If you're refering to average wallet+asset size of characters in general, I'd say around 1.5 bil is about normal across the board. So yeah, at around 3+ bil, you can say you're relatively rich.

How things change. When I started (some 4 years ago) having 10 mil in disposable cash in your bank was pretty good (if not actually rich). Now I can pop out 10 mil in an hour easy.

Great answers all around - Thank you
Shikari's would have been best, but I asked for a current snapshot and thus for a defined amount of ISKis.
As some pointed out, this changes and I believe will hardly ever go lower than the year before.

Well... EVE is a bit like life... the rich never do consider themselves rich. Personally I go with 4 categories: Poor, Middle Class, Wealthy, Rich.
Poor is the below average player who is allways forced to grind to replace losses and is floating around with less money than equipment.
Middle class is the average wallet in EVE. I have no idea how much this really is, as you would have to snapshot everyone's wallet then see which demographic is the most prevalent. At I guess I would say around 500m isk. Ironically most of the ISK buyers end up here, since they don't have the time or knowledge to capitalise on their bought isk they usually end up as run of the mill battleship pilots. They just THINK they are rich.
Wealthy is where I am now. I can make more isk with isk, or could before the markets crashed, than I can with actual gameplay, if I so chose. My wallet is hovering at a few billion and I have about more than my wallet in assets, and 3 billion isk ships. I'm doing ok, don't have more because I don't put in the time (eve rewards me more when I play less funnily enough), but im still not rich. I can however afford to play via GTC on two accounts.
Rich is basically someone that can do anything he wants, with the only caveat being skill training or possibly game rules. Here we have the moguls of eve, and they aren't that many, probably less than 500. A lot of them are high sec trading and finance characters that operate in the shadows. Not out in the open ship and module traders like me, no, they make their money from alt trading and market orders. Others are industrialists. Yet others are in the high echelons of major corporations or alliances. These are the people who see titans as a viable ship to fly. These are usually the people with 3-8 accounts. These are usually the people that play eve 8 hours a day or more.
And, as I've said before, there is a category above rich. These are the power players, the most recognisable being Molle of evolution. More than actual wealth these people have the power to mobilise fleets, and in EVE that means more than just money. These are the players that can set goals above their wallets and people will pool in to help them. These are the empire builders and the opressors of EVE, and are probably the pinnacle of the EVE "wealth" pyramid.

See that's for people who live in 0.0 "I would fit into wealthy there", but if you include empire dwellers less then 100 mil would probebly be average, and 500+ mil would probebly be rich. ______________________

Definitely not, pick any serious mission runner and they'll easily have 500m just invested in their CNR and fittings and much more in their wallet and LP.
The rich are the people who don't grind for cash; they play with the market and run businesses. Therefore they are richer than the mission runners. 50 billion is rich, 5 billion is not, because you can reasonably earn 5 billion off a month or two of serious missioning. You can't earn 50 billion like that without being an ISK farmer.

How many people "when you include empire dwellers" qualify as a "serious" mission runner that's going to save up all their isk? not many.
Anyways maybe my numbers are a bit low, but as a whole just for living in 0.0 the numbers are raised A LOT. Up to what he said. ______________________

Edited by: Torquemanda Corteaz on 06/08/2007 17:50:25 Edited by: Torquemanda Corteaz on 06/08/2007 17:46:52 well rich for a battleship pilot is probably around the 1-2bil mark
rich for a dread or carrier pilot is around the 7-10 bil mark
and rich for a ms pilot is around the 30-40 bil mark (but you don't see many MS pilots who don't have the financial support of their alliance or corp)
When I used to rat in branch (qyzm-w in particular, 20something belts ftw) I could make 50mil in an hour off good spawns, so you could make a handsome amount of money for relatively little effort. However, I'm now running around in the drone regions and while I am probably making just as much from ratting I get it in minerals, which is fine or proabably even more useful, but there isn't as many belts, and minerals aren't isk you need to either ship them to empire to sell them, or your corp will buy them off you for a reduced price
