Frustration maybe, I don't know. just wondering if others have been experiencing the same thing. In the last 3 weeks I've noticed pretty dramatically that I'm not able to scan out mission runners very well. All my scanning skills are at 4 or 5.
Right this minute I'm scanning for a Catalyst using Magnometric Quest scan probes, have him in range for the probe, actually under 2au, and have not been successful at all. I'm on my 6th, yes, 6th attempt. I do have everything selected right, ships, drones, scrap etc. but nothing.
I know it's chance based, but my gawds, please.
Anybody else experience the same thing during the last couple weeks, or am i just insane?

a catalyst...
I dont know how much harder it is to find then a battleship but I would guess atleast 50%. probably even 75%. I have no idea what BS chance is either 10% maybe? So a catalyst would be less then 5% in a mission.
ALso I think 1 probe almost cost you more then the loot/ransom you will get for killing a catalyst.
Move upp to atleast battlecruisers and you will have more success Signature removed - please reduce your signature graphic height to less than 120 pixels - Jacques([email protected]) |

How easy they are to find is their signature radius divided by their sensor strength, the larger the result the easier they are to find. If you're under 2au from target, zomg, use a 2au probe, it only has what, twice the strength?

The reason missions are so easy to scan out is because of drones and wrecks. The Cat being a small ship and in a dead space area you chances of finding him with a quest probe might as well be nil.
If hes a smart mission runner he is not using drones, and will be destroying his wrecks as soon as the rat dies. This prevents the majority of scanners from getting a quick lock on someone.

Not by probes, but they show up on the directional scanner. A single ship by itself isn't as interesting as a ship with a ton of wrecks around. Less clutter means less leakage of data to hostiles.

Yup. :) I just meant there's still a very good reason to blow up or salvage wrecks when you're missioning in lowsec.

Trust me, you can't. I haven't had any problems scanning mission runners, either by their own ships or by their drones.
Requires patience, but I get around a 60% mortality rate.
Shoot 1st, shoot some more, keep shooting, some more shot, and if anyones alive after ask a few questions. Just a soldier following orders.

If you mission run you'd know why it was hard to scan runners :p
