I dont know if this idea has already been thrown around but I think it would be great to play poker, roulette or any casino games with friends and foes.

So do I, though the gambling laws in some countries may be more strict than others, and I wonder if they might run afoul of local gambling ordinances. Since isk is traded for real money, like it or not, that may be a real concern.
It would certainly add some flavor, though, especially if some of the games offered are given a distinctly sci-fi slant. What gaming would the Minmatar develop? I picture crude, "common man" sort of games. Variations of dice games come to mind. The Caldari may have more refined, but high risk games. Very structured, rules oriented sort of games. Poker variants would certainly be common. The Gallente, on the other hand, would have more elegant and formal games. Baccarat would be their style, as would roulette. The Amarr, on the other hand, would strictly outlaw all gaming in their territories. That wouldn't stop them from developing a taste for the same sort of refined games that the Gallente offer. An Amarr wouldn't be caught dead playing a Minmatar game.
From a role-playing perspective, this could be an excellent way to further define the differences between the various races.
The Gallente would probably feature the most elaborate gaming stations. If there is a race that would develop "Las Vegas in space", this would be it. But what about the other races?
What would a Minmatar gaming station look like? Would the Caldari have gaming "resorts", like the Gallente, or would they have "gaming halls" more akin to giant pubs? I think it is clear that the Amarr would not build their own gaming centers, but the less strictly religious would certainly visit the Gallente stations.

Nice Idea! I believe they are already thinking about something like that. Just go through the icons in the data dump... There are casino chip icons....
The law thing around the world are definitely something they have to check very carefully. But since CCP forbids trading ISK for real monnies it would diffuse the problem a bit.

Technically, trading ISK for money is illegal...so, in-game gambling is perfectly legal, and its not real money so it can't violate any laws...and since CCP cant really control the ISK-money trade, they can't do much about it except post a disclaimer, perhaps every time you enter a casino, saying something to the effect of "Remember, trading ISK for RL money is a EULA violation and could be a violation of your local laws", the local law bit cuz of the gambling....
Anyways, a great idea, something to do when you're comepletely bored off yer arse with missions and mining but still need money

I am all for it, so long as players do not have any control over it, since in any sensible casino the house always wins.

Wow, this an excellent Idea, I really like GridCrash's idea too! Very nice way to expand the roleplaying - I often find myself getting into it. |

yep, this would certainly make a great addition to the game. not only for the ability to compete against other players, but also in terms of a little more variety in storyline missions, or perhaps even mission running for the casinos themselves. if youve had a bad day at the tables you could pick up a mission to eliminate a card counter to relieve a bit of stress, or perhaps dismantle a gang who are planning a heist :)

I think this would work pretty well once our characters are able to walk round the stations, being able to walk over to a table of friends for a nice game of poker. Maybe the table limits should be dictated by the sec status of the system, dont think concord would be completly happy with casinos. then in 0.0 you can get the real interesting ones

Part of the ambulation project has to include gambling in lowsec stations, and other activities to pass time in station, my only request is that they'd be NEW games, 'poker' just wouldn't work in game, immersionalism would die a horrid death.
Secondly, people talking about gambling rules, how would it matter if you can't get ISK back into real world money legally anyway? People doing so are breaking the EULA, and should be reported and sorted.

I love the idea but I would have a few things to say bout it, only in low sec and 0.0. Empire is still overcrowded we need to push the people out a little. who ever said they should not be player controlled because the house wins is a little insane, of bloody course they should be player controlled but they should require mega management and time. There should also be thieves and ways to catch em.
Oh and for the roulette ider lets have that wih a mag and plyers can choose to dsable there clones for the match, add a bit of extra spice.
