with the graphics update coming i cant help but wonder if people with low end systems are going to be crying so i was wondering if theres any idea what the new system requirements are going to be?
also i'm guessing even with the upgrades being split into more then 1 patch it seems this upgrade will be a pretty big so i wanted to know if theres any idea on the total size each part will be?
oh and with the new graphics i assume that puts us much closer to walking in stations so is there any time line on when that may happen?

I was to understand that only the people with the ability to see the new graphics (aka DX10 and a DX10 vidcard and the right specs and what not) will see the new graphics, possibly through the means of a seperate patch just for those people.
The people that don't have the hard/software just keep seeing what they have always seen.
So in a fact it's only a matter of if u think its worth seeing the spiffy new graphics or not.
CCP, let us pay the online shop with Direct Debit!!! Magners is now recruiting, evemail me or Dagazbo ingame.

Edited by: Anndy on 12/08/2007 12:13:02 my memory is a little fuzzy but i think i remember reading about a year ago that there will be a version for DX9 and a version for DX10 with the DX10 version being a huge upgrade
that could have been scrapped tho and like i said my memory is a bit fuzzy
also if it does end up only being for DX10 does that mean walking in stations will also only be for DX10? because all the screen shots i've seen seem to be using the new graphics

DirectX 10 will not be required to be able to enjoy the new graphics engine.

DirectX 10 will not be required to be able to enjoy the new graphics engine.
I'm posting this several times so people get this into their heads.
1) The new graphics engine will be primarily based in DirectX 9 improvements. As such, you don't need Vista or a DX10 card to enjoy them.
2) The system requirements will stay the same, or not get much higher.
3) DirectX 10 will be a slightly enhanced version for Vista users. It will not replace the DX9 version and you will not need Vista to play EVE with the new graphics.

All screenshots you've seen so far, including Ambulation, were taken in DirectX 9.

There was a Graph in one of the Dev blogs quite a while ago, showing how the DX10 stuff was a small off shoot of Trinity 2.0.
I also seem to remember one of the devs going on about how it was at very low priority, so i seriously doubt we will see DX10 stuff within the year.
The thing you have to remember is that the current engine is DX7 (well i assume so, as im pretty sure i could run it on a old Geforce 2MX). The Step from DX7 to DX9 is Huge really, while the step from DX9 to 10 is miniscule in comparision.

With HDR and self shadowing you going to need some decent gear to show it's full glory.
Minimum Specs (Speculation):
Pentium 4 2.4GHz, 1 GB RAM, ATi X1xxx series/NVidia 7xxx series (DirectX 9) - ATi 2xxx series/NVidia 8xxx series (DirectX 10). ____________ Blue Binary |

Thank you for saying it so forcefully. Now let's just hope people actually read this instead of asking ever bloody 5 minutes/days. I am getting tired of explaining it to them...
On the other note of requirements, by all rights the graphics/processing power of your regular computer should actually go up, this is due to the fact that right now the engine uses the CPU in your machine and not the graphic card for most of the graphics calculations. Thus when it is moved to the GC for the graphic calcs you should actually see a marked improvement.
I personally cannot wait... ----------------------------

For the DX10 machines and client yes, for the DX9 users however it should not need anything more than you currently use really. Just a lot sweeter graphics. ----------------------------

So why do I get the nagging feeling that my GeForce Go 7700GTX is going to hate me and my 1920 by 1200 display?

Looks like you will be safe for the DirectX 9 client. If you want the bells & whistles you're going to need DirectX 10.
A new Operating System & Graphics Card is on the shopping list for me at New Year then... I only bought this X1950pro two months ago. ____________ Blue Binary |
