We have noticed that players have had the problem where their cache and settings not being saved correctly. This includes the autopilot, overview settings amongst other things. It seems this is happening on Windows 2000, XP and Vista even if players are using the /end /LUA:OFF option in their shortcut to Eve or have run the Windows Vista script to correct ownership of cache and settings folders.
If you are one of those who have this problem and have a few moments to help us find out the cause it would be much appreciated. We will need the following information to be sent to us in a bug report
I direct you to Valar's instructions on how to file a good bug report.
It's vital we get details for we need to see where and when then cache stops working, which causes the settings not being saved.
Please have the Title of the bug as 'For Hunter - Cache/setting problem when doing XXXXXXXX' This will help us filter these from the rest of the bugs.

I had this problem on Vista, running eve-online as administrator solved the issue. The problem is that vista doesn't allow non-admin programs to modify files in the program files directory.

I had this problem yesterday with eve running as Admin under XP.
I did not change anything in windows or eve compared to the other day. But i read this thread to late for doing some screenies.
I took my bakcup "settings" directory and that restored a lot of my settings. But it would be good, if you would make those settings of eve (incl. bookmarks and Overviewsettings) exportable !

Agreed, the character sheet tab or the menu should have a button for exporting the GUI layout and various other settings to an external folder somewhere, possibly of player choice with a drop down menu type dealie for targeting a specific folder of choice.

I noticed that my clock was a year off. As soon as I set it correctly, my settings are functioning normally.

I have this problem. I run 2 client sessions concurrently quite a lof ot the time, and assumed that was the cause.
I agree that it would be good to have a way to back up and restore settings - that would protect us against all eventualities, and I suspect there will turn out to be multiple causes of this problem.

I am having this problem and it is driving me mad. I had a backup copy of the last good settings I used, but when copy them into the appropriate settings folder in documents & settings EvE seems to reset the user_xxxxxx.dat file back to default settings.

The latest patch destroyed my settings (again). logged in and it was all fine, dc'd then logged back in to find my settings got destroyed. - TQ has encountered a database issue, we are sitting around wondering why it has crashed this time, waiting for 500,000 petitions and watching the forums fill up. |

After a patch eve seems to start without the /end /LUA:OFF option and points to singularity first. if you there change to tranquility and then connect, the settings are gone, this might be, because eve uses the wrong path now .

yeah, I have been doing that ever since rev2.
I learned the source of the bug ghtough, when you dc, eve restarts itself, and it now no longer seems to apply the LUA:OFF, so if you dc, close EVE then reload it if you use LUA:OFF - TQ has encountered a database issue, we are sitting around wondering why it has crashed this time, waiting for 500,000 petitions and watching the forums fill up. |

I am currently having this issue as well. I got lagged out at a gate, and the game crashed. When I relogged, all my settings were wiped out. You have no idea how angry I am about this problem! Why did you have mess with the cache and settings locations when it was WORKING JUST FINE?! Ever heard of the english phrase, 'if it ain't broke...'?!

oki i have the same problem on my 3 accounts ! i tested different computers in an internet cafe , problem is still there . most funny thing , other people playin in the internet cafe on the same computers i tested don t have the problem , it prooves it s not from CLIENT SIDE but from server .

so i made a nice full bug report .
basically , the settings are not saved . i tested my account on 8 different computers ( in internet coffee ) before / while / and after other peoples were playin eve without any problem . they don t have any problem with their settings , meanwhile mine are not saved , even when i play windowed with another guy playin his own account on the same computer .
so at least we see it s not a problem from administrator permission or other authorization to modify eve cache folder .
the settings problem only concern my drones settings / mail ...but there is a strange thing bout my chat windows .
i have 3 char on my account . so let say i log character 1 , move chat windows around and log out , i log back in but with character 2 , the chat windows settings are now the same than character 1 .....
so now i move them around, i log out and relog character 1, then the chat windows are different from previous settings for character 1 , they are the same as character 2 ...chat windows settings are saved from the last character i logged out to resume .
this happen for all my characters , on my 3 accounts .
it also happens when i create a new character , when i appear in eve world , the chat windows settings are the same than my last character i logged on .

another strange thingy : i get 2 comp with 2 differents IP , i log my account on the first computer , make my settings .
then i try to log this same account on the second computer , i got the message connection lost to server on the first computer . i log out on second comp . and if i relog on computer 1 , settings are saved ...
so it seems if i regulary close the game ( regular log out / close window ) settings are not saved , but if the connection is lost , settings are saved .....so it could mean , when i lose connection , the server doesn t have time to send something which does mess with settings ......

My carrier keeps loosing drones/fighters groups, and its driving me CRAZY!!! I had backup of settings with fighters groups but.... I just lost my ALL settings and tried to use backup but ... nothing happens, still no groups like eve doesn see it:(
And my settings were gone after I apllied latest patch for test server on seperate copy, when I tried to launch it got some erros:( and after that I had problems with settings
And I have problems with this script, something about /y isnt allowed with /d

I can't even find the cache folder anymore.
The problem seemed to start on Armageddon Day. I went to log into SISI and as the SISI copy of the client fired up I got a message that a patch was required....so I patched, then when the client re-started the message box loaded saying to use your Tranquility Client today - so I did.
I noticed the patch did strange things to the SISI client removing the choose server drop down box and only giving an option for SISI. Next morning when I tried to use my TQ client (it had not been patched) to log into TQ, it could only find SISI although the other options were there for TQ and Multiplicity, both of those gave the result server not found - despite TQ being up and many people I chatted to on vent being connected.
That evening when I got home from work, the connection issue had fixed itself but since then I keep losing all settings and come back in to full screen mode, with no channels, overview closed and once, I even came back in to the middle of a tutorial session.
Do I need to manually create a cache folder somewhere and if so, where? I run Win2k.

Not sure if this somehow is related - but...
Using this batch files to start EVE:
set USERPROFILE=f:\eve-xyz Start "eve" F:\eve-xyz\bin\ExeFile.exe /nosplash /noconsole /end /LUA:OFF exit
I then start a 2nd client, with another userprofile name/directory.
Somehow, capture, logs etc etc is saved in ONE of the clients directory for both chars. Having problem getting the settings resetted from time to time - with long "pauses".

Any news on this problem
Since Trinity went live, I have problems with my settings too. In the morning I play on an old computer, with a graphic crad that will only allow me to play the Classic version. In the evening, I play on another computer, where I can play Premium version.
Now when I log on to the Classic version, my settings are at 24bit color depth. I always have to reset it to be able to play. But the game still looks weird. When I log on to the Premium version, on the other computer, it always starts at 24bit, but here the game looks ok.
This was not a problem before Trinity. Before I could have different settings on both computers!
