CCP I think you have lowered the allowed amount of characters in the BIO to a ridiculous small level. Even the simplest of explanations of what your about is hard to deliver with the current restrictions.
Although I recommend keeping Bios to a certain limit I really do think its too short at the moment.
Im not sure how many people would agree with this, or how many people are bored and just wish to flame this, or how many people seen the dish run away with the spoon. but I am still interested in knowing if CCP will expand the BIO just a little for anyone who likes a BIO, a decent BIO that is all .

Those kind of stupid bios with huge fonts didn't get nerfed any, as they usually don't get near the character limit. The ones really hit by it are those like me with long RP bios. I still haven't gone and fixed mine, it got chopped in half by the nerf and just too frustrated to bother.

A weird exploit where you could fill your bio up with useless characters that caused lag, and nerfed in general to reduce session change time. ------------ Whiners - Unite! Tarminic - 25 Million SP in Forum Warfare. |

Just another way for CCP to show RPers how little anything immersive matters to them.
Bios are a way to communicate and tag your own space. They cut them down without any explanation and refuse to acknowledge it.

Really? I've only ever heard people speculate that it is to reduce lag, but I've never seen a dev explanation of how.
It sounds completely ******** to me that Bios should affect anything.

I used to have a flavorful bio, but after it got destroyed by the nerf twice, I gave up and put a damage report in, instead.
*sigh*
Ah, well, at least it's the damage report of a cosmic fart hitting me (completely authentic; I didn't make it up), instead of some dull weapon hit.

who needs personality anyway?
lets make eve so it has only one race left and nerf everything else...
and why dont get the ally a shaman and the horde a paladin... oh wait
on a serious note: i'am a bit fed up with all this nerfing stuff lately. the nos nerf is far over the counter (nos nerfed to oblivion) for example... ccp STOP NERFING START BOOSTING.

BIO nerf didn't really harm you; just keep part of the story in BIO (to give taste), and put rest behind In-Game-Browser compatible website.
Those who are interested in the RP aspect probably will go and read it. Rest didn't need to be forced to load it anyway.

an easy work around is to make a .txt file, do the normal html editing using body, break commands, rename from .txt to .html, upload to eve-files.com...and viola! you can now put a hotlink into your bio (and you can rename the link so it's not http..etc) that's as long as you wish! And it's In-game compatible (it's only text).
If you want to update the rp on your character, you can just delete the old file on eve-files and upload a new one w/ the same name.
I never read people's long winded bio's, but I bet the people who take the time to do, will also take the time to click your link in your bio..

I used to click links until that "podding" bio game started making a scene. You know... they cover it with something like "See a picture of me" or something, and it takes you to that you've been podded thing.
It's not a huge deal, I just don't like people knowing I've read their bio unless I tell them. ----- Recruiting - Pilots of any age welcome. |

If we're now using the word "nerf" to apply to anything at all, including reducing the number of characters in a player's biographical info, it really has lost all meaning.

Really? You don't understand what nerf means in this context?
Seems plainly clear to me.

I understand perfectly what the OP is saying, I just think that using the word "nerf" to apply to anything being reduced in a game makes the term meaningless.
The bio length reduction is a very, very minor change to a mostly trivial aspect of the game. It doesn't change its function or give some players an advantage over others. It doesn't require a change to current playstyles.
"Nerf" is meant to be an emotive word, it's meant to make you think the devs have taken something important and reduced its power in a significant way that will affect gameplay and balance (not always negatively, something can be "nerfed" if it's overpowered.) Using it to describe every little change to any facet of the game washes out that emotional impact, meaning it becomes harder to actually communicate to people when something is a significant change.
It's like using the word "Holocaust" to describe every mass murder. You lose the ability to communicate the scale of the idea, which makes it harder to impress upon others how singular some events are.

Nerf, the reduction of the effectiveness of a feature. Yep, that is what happened with the Bio NERF
Your definition of the word nerf is just wrong, your ignorance on what the term nerf means is the problem. Your definition goes to the causes, rather the whys some nerfs happen, not to the definition of WHAT a nerf is.
BTW- Nerfs do not reflect magnitude, they reflect a common action.
