I am a bagger at this neighborhood market, but things are slow.
Post a positive, general statement, along with the word Thanatos, and have a chance to win a thanatos hull located in lowsec.
OFC I am aware there is risk of negative comments, but the activity alone will generate buzz. |

In Greek mythology, Thanatos was the daemon personification of death. The Greek poet Hesiod established in his Theogony that Th+ínatos is a son of Nyx (Night) and Erebos (Darkness) and twin of Hypnos (Sleep). Homer also confirmed Hypnos and Thanatos as twin brothers in his epic poem, the Iliad, where they were charged by Zeus via Apollo with the swift delivery of the slain hero Sarpedon to his homeland of Lycia.
Counted among Thanatos' siblings were other negative personifications such as Geras (Old Age), Oizys (Suffering), Moros (Doom), Apate (Deception), Momus (Blame), Eris (Strife), Nemesis (Retribution) and even the Acherousian/Stygian boatman Kharon. Thanatos was loosely associated with the three Moirai (for Hesiod, also daughters of Night), particularly Atropos, who was a goddess of death in her own right.
He is also occasionally specified as being exclusive to peaceful death, while the bloodthirsty Keres embodied violent death. His duties as a Guide of the Dead were sometimes superseded by Hermes Psychopompos. Conversely, Thanatos may have originated as a mere aspect of Hermes before later becoming distinct from him.
Thanatos was regardedas merciless and indiscriminate, hated byGÇöand hateful towardsGÇömortals and the deathless gods. But in myths which feature him, Thanatos could occasionally be outwitted, a feat that the sly King Sisyphus of Korinth twice accomplished. When it came time for Sisyphus to die, Zeus ordered Thanatos to chain Sisyphus up in Tartarus. Sisyphus cheated death by tricking Thanatos into his own shackles, thereby prohibiting the demise of any mortal while Thanatos was so enchained. Eventually Ares, the bloodthirsty god of war, grew frustrated with the battles he incited since neither side suffered any casualties. He released Thanatos and handed his captor over to the god. |

OFC I am aware there is risk of negative comments, but the activity alone will generate buzz. Eve is a caring sharing, game where everyone has morals.
Noobs are welcomed and cared for. Any negative light-hearted banter, as friendly as it always is, is frowned upon with a gentle admonishment to desist.
Marketing has got to be seen to be believed! Prices are fair, contracts are generous and trades, oh, the trades, are a delight to behold.
War-decs are only made against super alliances with oodles of wealth and are in fact welcomed by the alliances to help the noobs come to grips with the game.
There are no bots or automated services. Everyone is an active player.
And oh yes. There is RMT. The funds are distributed to orphans in many African countries. Wonderful, simply wonderful.
0.0 space is where the real fun is at. Players all joing together for frolics against each other with insurance paid by the winning team to the losing team.
All alliance wealth is shared equally and no player is ever out of pocket.
I could go on but describing this game, after 3 years of playing, just brings tears to my eyes as I watch humanity at it's absolute finest.
Oh deary me. I forgot, in my haste, to mention that the Thanatos is the most pleasurable ship to fly and is in great demand.

An old Marvel Conan the Barbarian comic had a Thanatos character in it. Some wizard made Conan find and loot his tomb. "Now go and find the Tomb of Thanatos and bring back what lies within, or I will invoke the curse I have have already put on you!" To which Conan answered something like, "Set-accursed wizard! I'll go, but your head will leap from your shoulders when this is done!" Anyway, for some reason this time Conan took some henchmen along. He didn't usually do that, so you knew they were just along for monster fodder. Kind of like Ensign Somebody-or-Other in the '60s Star Trek episodes. If they took Ensign _______ down to the planet, you knew he was going to get vaporized or transmogrified or something. Same with Conan and henchmen. One of them here was kind of mouthy, so you knew he was the one who was in for something special. He was either going to: a) be torn asunder by a monster; or b) betray the group at a crucial moment, and so that Conan would eventually cleave him in twain.
So anyway they got to the Tomb of Thanatos and opened it up. It's empty. No wraith, no giant guardian serpent, no altar for evil accursed ceremonies. Completely empty, except... back in the shadows, deep in the cobwebs, there's a single ring lying on the floor. It has a pitch black stone with a death's head skull carved in it. Mouthy henchman leaps for it, and before Conan can say, "Back cur! Before I make a yard of steel and gouts of black blood emerge from between your shoulder blades!", he has the ringer on his finger. First the henchman's face shows the shock of disbelief, as his hand turns black. Then it freezes in a mask of horror, as blackness spreads up his arm. Then a blood-curdling scream emits from his lips, as the blackness covers his whole body-- saving the head for last, or course. He's gone, turned into a foul and unearthly inky black shadow, 7 feet tall. Thanatos. Now everybody's highly freaked out. Even Conan. The hackles raise at the back of his neck in superstitious fear. "Crom! What sorcery is this?!" Everybody's falling over each other trying to get out of the tomb. Thanatos grabs a henchman and absorbs him into the hideousness of his shadow body. Now the shadow-thing is 9 feet tall. (You know, gaining strength from lifeforce and all that). It comes out of the tomb and grabs a horse, sucks that in too. That makes him even bigger. Some idiot henchman tries to take a swing with a sword and gets sucked in too. Now it's 14 feet tall and coming for Conan himself. The comic book ends with a picture of Conan backed into a corner, on the ground with his sword just out of reach. His barbarian fear of sorcery has him seriously freaked out, too. "Next Issue: The Track of Thanatos!"
Unfortunately I didn't get that issue, so I don't know how the story ends. Logically though, either Conan found some gimmicky way to defeat Thanatos, or Thanatos proceeded to absorb the whole world. |
