TBH,as a Caldari pilot I never paid too much attention to drones. However, confronting the cost/benefit of Cruise specialization, I've decided to learn the Gallente line of ships for enhanced PvP performance in some areas. So, now I care about drones. Although I am early in my drone studies (d. interfacing ii, durability, combat @ 3), I am curious about what array of tech 1 drones (light and medium) is best to carry for generalized pvp. I have been advised that thermals are popular because of the damage modifier, but that some pvp'ers prefer a mix of em and exp drones. Is this true?
It would be great if some drone pilot would walk me through the basic considerations of drone mix for pvp, assuming you don't know what you'll be going up against.

Thermal damage drones (i.e. Hobgoblin, Hammerhead, Ogre, Garde) do the most pure DPS out of all the drones. (These drones also happen to be the slowest in their respective categories, but speed not too much of an issue except for light scout drones.) Thermal (and kinetic) tend to be the easiest damagetypes to tank against in PvP since they have roughly equal resists in both shields and armor.
If you encounter a well tanked ship, chances are it is an omnitank with above average resists in all damagetypes; in such a case you are best using the thermal drones. However, remember that there is an unfortunately large number of lo-sec ratters who sport faction-specific hardeners/resists, so be knowledgeable as to what kinds of rats are in the area and keep drones to counter ratters w/ resists.
Perhaps a good example of mixing your damagetypes is a Vexor with 5x Hammerheads and 5x Warriors. Warriors are the fastest light drones and do explosive damage, and Hammerheads are slow medium drones which do thermal damage. Against larger targets the Hammerheads will fare well and do plenty of DPS, whereas for smaller ships like frigates, Warriors will have enough tracking and speed to hit them. |

Generally for pvp either gallente (hammerheads, orgres, hobgoblins) do most dps but are a little slow. Or minmatar (bezerkers, warriors, valkiries) which are fastest but 3rd best dps although exp is a common weak resist in pvp.
I usually fit explosive drones to spread my dmg types a little when using blasters. -----

Anything but Amarr tbh
Gallente deals a punch Caldari survives a punch Minmatar got speed.
Amarr lacks speed and damage, and dies if the solar winds are to rough.
Alts is just another name for inbreeders.
