Caracal would be a good ship to aim for in the beginning. Cerberus is long term unless you want to go for the Raven (battleship, cruise missiles, nuff said).
Just be aware that you have to wait for your missiles to actually get to the target before you do any damage. So super-super long range is not always great but maybe 30 - 50km is fine for supporting a small gang.
Not to mention caldari ships are great for missions and NPCing. ---

You'll need 3 things:
a) a Cerberus (will take a while to train for) b) a mate in a tackling ship (shouldn't be a problem) c) a missile velocity buff (unlikely to ever happen because it constitutes a Caldari buff which hasn't happened for about 2 years)

Well long range, missle, and pvp just don't go together TBH.
If you must go for a raven (battleship) cruise or torps. Cruise go farther and are faster. But torps do more dmg. But there so slow ships can warp off before the torps get there if your to far away.
Missle's are very good for missions thou. Which might help fund your operation in the beginning.

Greetings, Enuek.
As has already been mentioned... missiles are not a great choice for PVP... particularly at long-range. Missiles are already a little below average DPS when considering other weapons of equivalent categories. Add to that fact that at long-range missiles have a significant flight time due to low velocity and the several disadvantages quickly begin to outweigh the few advantages.
If you want to 'snipe' (that is to say, provide long-range damage) then turrets are your best bet.
If PVP is what you'd like to focus on then I'd suggest focusing on Gallente or Minmatar ships. Caldari railgun ships aren't a bad choice... particularly once you consider the Rokh. However, steer clear of missiles for PVP. If CCP ever wakes up and increases missile velocity then missiles will be a useful option.

Cruise raven with missile velocity rigs lays down 500DPS at 10km/s :D

Mh, you would just use raven.
Only thing cerberus is good for (like the ishtar) in pvp nowadays, is to nano it up and solopwn.

If you want to stick with missles and don't mind getting up in there face. Go heavy assualt missles.
Other choices If you want to stay back train hybrids. (guns)
Up close and personnel go blaster's. (guns)
Or rig out a ship like was posted above for max speed on missles. But i'm really not fond of that choice TBH.

ok , i guess i was wrong i thought missiles seemed long range , so if i wanted to use missiles i would need a quicker ship and get in closer? im just trying to figure out what skills/ship to aim for but im gona want to pvp mostly in a small group, 2-4 pilots. Would it be a waste to start training to get into other races frigates or should i just make a new char to be on a equal playing field for pvp flight. Like i said im new and wana maximize my time to get into the game and hit the ground running. my gunnery skills are that great either will it take me long to get back on track if i where to change to turrets

Missiles are a great secondary skill for use on many Minmatar ships... so swapping to Minmatar wouldn't negate the time you've taken to train missiles.
Using Caldari missile ships to 'get in closer' is a very bad idea. Caldari ships are generally the slowest, least agile, and most massive of all ship types. Most any other races ship will be able to outmaneuver you. Both Gallenete and Minmatar excel at close-range fighting... while still doing very well at long-range.
Honestly, if PVP is your thing... you can't lose with either Gallente or Minmatar.

Work on Minmatar Frigate, Gunnery (focusing on Projectiles), most general Gunnery skills (though you can ignore Controlled Bursts), and Navigation skills in general. Also, early in the game, do not ignore Engineering, Electronics... and all your Learning skills.
Check out the skills section of the forum for more help... and look for some skill training guides/programs.

If you're planning to focus on missiles and Caldari ships, every skill point you put into the missile support skills will be useful. Bombardment, projection, rapid firing, all the skills that don't necessarily deal with just one launcher type. You'll want them all built up eventually. And they'll help just as much now with light missiles and they will later with cruise.
Also, look into flying a drake on your way between caracal(cruiser) and raven (battleship). They're fully insurable and much cheaper than a cerberus.

In theory, it's possible to fire cruise missiles 385km with a Raven.
In practice, you can't, because you can't lock >250km anyway.
And... well, anyone your shooting at, has time to see you firing, rat for a bit, go make a coffee, and then come back and warp off before your missiles will hit them.
(OK, so that's a bit of an exaggeration, but missiles do take too long to hit the target at any real range)

Hi,
Consider using a caracal, you can easily reach 70+ clicks with relative low training. You can use your midslots to some sort of shieldtank, i recommend extenders. Or you can fit some electronic warfare modules to assist your tackler from a distance. (remote sensor damp, tracking disruptor). Fitting an microwarpdrive will probably help you with acquiring/maintaining distance, or quickly escaping through a gate. Just remember to put different kind of missiles in your cargo, and adjust damagetype to your oppenents tank.
Caracal is a nice versatile ship, especially in small gangs.
