Solo pirating while cloaked. So we're limited to recon ships and stealth bombers but I'm more interested in hearing opinions on the recons (I already pirate in a purifier quite fine with damps).
Yeah I'm somewhat new to the cloaking scene. Are the recon ships affected by the sensor recalibration times on cloaking devices or do they get a hidden bonus similar to the visible bonus on the stealth bombers?
With that said - which one would be a fun/sweet one to solo pirate in with the upcoming changes? Just looking for stories and opinions of the recon ships for pirating other than the curse/pilgrim. Only limitation I have on the topic is that I do want to use a cloak. ---

As far as I know, combat recons get no cloaking bonuses at all, so it's like every other ship. I'm not sure if they get the recalibration time though, I think they do, but I havn't tested it for some time.

I'm just thinking if it's going to take me 10 seconds after I turn off my cloak before I can even start the lock time (say I'm using a rapier) - a lot of my targets will be able to freak out and run away before I lock on.
I mostly engage frigates, destroyers, cruisers, and battle cruisers when I pvp in my "cloaking ships."
Can take a while to lock onto a frigate...then add 10 seconds (20 if I'm in a combat recon). Just looking for more information on the topic of cloak fighting kind of...=P ---

Cloaking V and a covops cloak takes it to 5secs, think thats the fastest outside of the Stealth Bomber.

Also, the targeting delay refers to actually resolving the lock, not initiating it. You can start targeting immediately after decloaking. The delay will simply prevent you from getting a lock until after the five seconds is up. Don't wait five seconds to start targeting - just go for it immediately.

They have a "hidden" bonus, nothing major though. A combat recon can recloak after 5 seconds. Normally you have a reactivation delay of 30 seconds with prototype and improved cloaks.

Wrong. Its for starting the lock.
The decloaking is usually a bit lagged so it can appear that you start to lock right after the decloak, but that isn't the case. Hit the (de)clock button at .00 and spam ctrl-leftclick on a target. You will start locking the target at .06 (with cloaking 4).

Alright so with the Covert Ops cloak you can get your lock initiation down to 5 seconds (the targetting delay)? That...is a bit better yeah. I can see catching people with the 5 second delay a bit more than with the 10 + lock time.
That would limit me to the force recons that can use the covert ops cloak. With the upcoming patch I'm not sure if the Pilgrim will be able to perform as well (I just hear from people it won't) so would I be alright in a Rapier going up against most t1 cruisers depending on my setup? Occasionally I will be tempted to engage a battlecruiser and that would entirely depend on the target if I engage or not (are they blaster fit, are they long range fit, can I keep them from getting close, can I keep them _____ to kill them etc.).
Any of the 4 races are an option in this case. I'm looking mostly at the Rapier though...I like webs =P ---

Edited by: Aramendel on 17/08/2007 18:32:43 Again cruisers and BCs the rapier will do muc much better. MWD, scram, 2 webs and 2 damp + 2 damp rigs will let you damp any BC or smaller (exept recons) below 20k and webs will allow you to control the battle totally. Without damagemods you'll do around 200 dps with it if you use artillery.
As a sidenote, don't expect too much from the cloak. Nowadays most people with half a brain will retreat to a safe the moment you enter the system, not when they see you on the overview.

arazu/lachesis are great for solo, you can tackle/damp from 40 km away and tear them down (slowly). bcs are a lil bit problematic though, as you could have problems to get through their tank (depending on fit ofc).

I'm expecting tons from the cloak. Even with my evil sec status I still catch people in the belts. I do low-sec pirating, not 0.0. So I'm already in the system and for some reason they have a desire to go to a belt in 0.4 - 0.1 space and engage the rats. At that point I consider it entirely their fault =P
Not to mention I'm looking forward to the HAM Sandwich, I mean sacrilege, to improve the gate camping moments in 0.4 space.
I will ponder upon this and set up a Rapier and give it a shot (I had a huginn...I liked it...) ---

u have about 5 sec decalibrating time everytime u uncloak...it means u cant lock or cloak again for 5 sec. U can improve this with maxing ure cloaking skill to 5(I only got 4 atm), or u can fit rigs. the t1 rigs will help about 1 sec pr t1 rig. so maximum 3 sec with rigs and I think u can improve 1 sec with the IV to V skill. so maxiumum 3 sec +ure locking time to lock down a target.
about recons..I almost only fly recons atm. I prefer the arazu on my main for solo work...3 rsd and 2 damp rigs and u can damp every non sensorbooster ship to 4.5km lock range. with 1-2 sensorbooster to about 6-8km. Fit 250mm rails and some caldari antimatter and pwnd em from 15km. And ofc..bring ure alt in a rapier with dual web^^

Ok, lowsec is something different. But hunting people in lowsec belts is so...meh. Yay, another t1 fitted frigate/cruiser/mining barge. Its neither profitable nor any challange IMO. Its like bullying people half your age in school.

Missionrunners is another thing entirely.
And, yes, some people do lowsec beltratting in BSs. However this is a certain breed of stupid (or very green) people which usually do not have anything worthwhile.

Indeed it is exactly like bullying people half your age. But since I'm so close to Amamake, the bright yellow dot on the map with 5+ ships destroyed in the last hour tends to bring in the command ships looking for a fight...and I love good fights if someone will eventually get off the gate/station =P
Also I've made a majority of my best friends in EVE through killing them or being killed by them in low sec. It's nice and dandy imo...the ones who take it well (being raped viciously in a belt as a newbie) are usually the cool people. If they really are newbs I usually give them money for the ship they lost. 1 or 2 mil is nothing off my back...I essentially pay them for the kill mail =P ---
