I have a question for CCP. There will be some background information to go through first, so those of you who are aware of this issue should feel free to skip to the end of this post.
Since Eve started in 2003 there have been two leaders of the Amarr Empire. Each of their periods of rule have been followed by periods of time where the Empire has not had a head of state.
Emperor Heideran VII ruled from launch day (6th May 2003 or thereabouts) until his death on 17th September 2003 - a total of one hundred and twenty-eight days.
His successor, Doriam II was crowned on the 29th November 2003 - seventy-two days later.
Unfortunately, Doriam II was assassinated on 5th July 2005, and so his rule lasted for only five hundred and eighty-four days.
Since his assassination, seven hundred and seventy-seven days have passed. That's right, the Empire has now been without a head of state for significantly longer than the reign of the previous incumbent.
To make matters worse, we've still not heard a sausage about the rules of succession for the next Emperor, there's been no news on the hunt for the assassin for well over a year, and no news on who the new Sarum heir will be since Jamyl Sarum's pod went pop on 29th November 2003.
My feelings on this have been made clear on numerous occasions, including here.
Indeed, CCP have been asked about the delay by numerous people on many occasions, both in character and out of character.
On the 14th Oct 2005, Gnauton apologised for a delay in moving arcs forward, explaining that it was because the dynamic content people had been temporarily moved to the static content department. He finished by saying that things would get better. Well Gnauton, we're still waiting.
We've also had various other statements on the cause for the delay. Amongst them have been "the relevant people are currently on holiday, they'll be back soon and more eager than ever" and "we've just employed some new people to do this, it will take a couple of weeks for them to settle in and then they'll be *****ing on".
When the "G-Unit" was formed towards the end of last year, Ginger assured me that a new Emperor would be in place by the end of 2007. He has also previously assured me that the story-arc to put him in place would "really rock".
On the 15th Feb this year, Ginger confirmed that the delay in implementing faction warfare would have no impact on the Imperial Succession.
In a later live dev blog Ginger's answer to the question "Can we have a new Emperor please" was a simple "no", followed by a laugh. It has never been made clear whether he was joking or if he simply found the disappointment of people who care deeply about this game to be a source of amusement.
Of course, the problem isn't just with us getting a new Emperor. Last November, Ginger claimed that there was a plan to explain the change in Thukker standings. We're still waiting for that one to fruition.
That's the background, now on to the question!
Will the disbandment of the Aurora events team affect CCP's ability to deliver on their promises and give us a cool story-arc and a new Emperor, or does yesterday's devblog merely herald a new round of excuses for the lack of progress in this matter?

Edited by: Delusion ''Fel on 22/08/2007 12:33:48 You amarrans need to learn the meaning of the term "nobility" before you can elect nobles of your own.
And even should you learn what it is to be noble and have honor, we minmatar have plenty more assassins who are more than willing to do the verse the public service of dispatching another amarran emporer.
Or perhaps we'll just insert a matari into the position..... we're good at cosmetic surgery after all the scars you left us.
Random roleplay aside tho, hope something is done about this soon. It is a hole in the eve back story that is sorely in need of closing.

Just from what I've gleaned and my own guesses, I'm betting the Privy Council or whatever they are called are enjoying running the Empire their own way without the divine decree of an Emperor or the whining of the Theology Council interfering. Each of the Heirs would really LIKE to be Emperor, of course, but none of them are willing to step up and assume the throne, risking the same assassination that the previous two Emperors faced. Similarly, the Sarum family can't find any of their potential heirs to step up for similar reasons. It makes we wonder who is representing Sarum interests on the Privy Council...the Sarum Family have the largest army and territory of the Five Families, or so I thought.
Not being an Imperialist myself I'm not sure if I even care...I've always had a soft spot of the Ardishapur family myself, they have a n interesting history with their silver hands.

Things did get better I believe, there were numerous high level PF arcs run this year as opposed to none being run?

Your putting words in my mouth here Rodj, I said it would have no impact on our projected plans event wise.

It was a joke, we have a plan in place, that plan has been in place for some time and were just waiting for the chips to fall, obviously with Aurora being disbanded this does not exactly help our cause events wise, what with their being no more in game events. But yes, it was an attempt at humour, I did not find the dissapointment of people amusing but like I already said, we have a plan, before the end of 2007, nothing has changed.

The standings got implemented before I started here, the plan got scrapped because we decided it did not fit into our larger storyline as their are plans for the Thukkers. Sorry about that, but its now been so long that any story we generate on the subject would be too far gone and suck.

Im sorry you feel that way Rodj, We did ramp up the storyline a fair bit before the summer, im sorry you didnt feel that this was the case but we ran many events and news articles but obviously with the disbandment of in game events this has a large impact now on our ability to progress the storyline like we would like too. Its still going to be progressed and were discussing exactly how right now. This is a relatively recent development for us too.

I dont see how the Amarr roleplay is screwed by not having a leader, many of the arcs and news articles have hinted at the current state of play in the Amarr Empire without its head which has brought up many interesting avenues of roleplay and thought. If you would like to describe how we have screwed Amarr roleplay rather than attempting to add more depth to it then I will answer those points as best I can.

We havent delayed it. If you think about it objectively, what is the Empire now based of, who rules it? Why would people want to delay the election of a new Emperor, who has the power, who wants the power etc etc etc

I think the major thing here is, a lot of stuff is always "planned". And I have no doubt that this stuff really is planned, but it is that planning to implementation phase that seems to have quite a few issues.
Of course, I don't know all that is going on over there.

All valid points, but what is the objective difference between the Empire after the death of Doriam, and the Empire after the death of Heideran, or indeed after the death of any of the multiple previous Emperors?
The temptation for the Privy Council to take over was there before, what makes it so much stronger this time?

Id love to get in depth discussion about this with you Rodj, but im not going to ruin what is planned as that would suck for everyone. But the Privy Council have not taken over.
The inner workings of the Empire political machinations are a subject of much conjecture across all of EVE at the moment.

I happen to think that the events that took place during the Spring were handled very well, and you deserve full credit for them.
The Brother Joshua arc in particular was very enjoyable to participate in. However, even there, we have a problem. The last we heard, Brother Joshua was merrily carving limbs and internal organs from Articio Kor-Azor. But what happened next? How's Kor-Azor's recovery going, and will he be more mellow in the future?
The specific arc that I was referring to was the new Emperor one, of which there has been very little news for a long time.
Other than that, thanks for the detailed replies!
I shall send my best uniform off to the dry cleaners in preparation for some sort of finish to this tale by the end of the year.

Quite simple, you guys can run the arcs and events and very few will be involved in them . As far as i know a large part of the Amarr players wish to fight for the Emperor , or serve the Empire is some way .
Whit the news that we are never gonna have a new Emperor those hopes are cut out. Try Electing a new Emperor and publish the news, the Emperor orders his subjects to fight against the Sansha nation you will see a lot more ppl killing Sansha pirates or eve blasting stations in Stain.
To you maybe an Emperor reperesents just a leader something like a small fry prime minister or presidentd of a 3rd world country . Do to our doctrine for a loyal Amarrian The Emperor is the sun of our life the Lord's Avatar in the mortal Realm . When you'll be able to see our view then you will know why a Gallente soldier will ask "What's the pay ?" when sent in a mission an Amarr soldier will say "It will be my honor Sir !" . Why we Amarrians fight whit zeal while the others run in fear .
An a Amarr warrior is a servant of the Emperor , whidout and Emperor there is no one to serve but God . And god does no issue orders every day .

Heres a Thought:
The rising of a new Emporer, or even a dictatorial or aristoctratic state within in the amarr nations sees them pursuing new slaving runs in Minmatar space.... or something like that
This could be the inciting factor in the whole factional warfare story arc.... who knows. ----------------------------------------------- "post with your main. delete your alt, you sad little exploiting metagamer." |

Heh, you're a shoe in. Let me fill you in on how the Gallente presidential elections work:
1: Two candidates announce their deeply and dramatically opposing policies.
2: Alliances and corporations argue over who can be the "champions" for each dramatic policy.
3: Candidates take a vow of silence for several years.
4: The winner is announced in a 6 line news article. --------

There's nothing wrong with things developing slowly. However, in a game where the average player plays for seven months, is it really a good thing to have a major story-arc take over two years to even get past the opening act?
The missing Emperor isn't the only example either. We've been waiting for news on Insorum for even longer, and it's now nearly four years since there was a Sarum heir.
The vast majority of players start their Eve life, develop their characters and then get bored and leave the game without even noticing that these story-arcs are happening. That's how slowly they move.
