Shouldnt there be an amarr heir by now?
For every day that CCP fights to maintain a good image, they turn around and do something that makes everyone go: WTF? It really kills me to see all these things going on... because I really do love EVE with all my nerdy gaming heart
-the current server issues (which is a VERY mild way of putting it)
-The trading forum spat (wtf was that?)
-EVE TV (just: the most moneygrabbing 'new media' project EVER... without function)
-Non action on the part of ISK sellers... (why...?)
-and now RP... aurora is killed without a mention....
-Graphix update is around the corner but no official movie or screenies yet (its inbound before end of 2007 right?? Name me another gaming company that doesnt release a trailer for their game three months before release)
-ambulation is coming, but we havent seen squat on that besides the low rez tentonhammer clip. (WANT MOAR!)
-Theres supposed to be an external comittee for IA right??? (dead before it left the nest)
what are you guys up to? I say it's money saving time and the RP staff got the sack, cause they cost too much. CCP is truly weirdness these days: you guys aint putting forth the image of a sane or quality company guys.... whats up?
I am well aware of the intricacies and troubles in running a rapidly growing company like yours, but the uncertainty and whimsical communications you are putting forward do nothing to reinforce your customers trust. I really don't get it.
I know many flames will singe my wise old head, but everyone clamored that Rev2 would appease all problems in eve..... and it didn't. I doubt Rev3 will be appeasing the main gripes if such corporate policy is pursued indefinitely. I just hope, and its a hope I cherish in a soft fluffy cushion because it's so fragile, that Rev3 will see the START of EVE revitalization.
Sometimes I think CCP, and EVE, is growing too fast for its own good. The company branches into so many side adventures before ensuring their core product is up to scratch. Eve TV, Eve Magazines, Eve Cardgames, Eve Tshirts, Eve shotglasses...... it's all fun and whatnot, but I would expect those products to be secondary to the stuff you make money on...EVE itself... it just doesn't seem like it these days.
Is this corporate mismanagement? lack of resources? Unprofessionalism?!
WHAT GIVES CCP?
Give me a reason....to love you..... !!!???
HEAR YE HEAR YE!! I prophesize the following: both factional warfare and the graphix update will be pushed back to Q1 2008. I bet a million ISK.
You may all flame me now.... but I'd hope you also read what I posted. This is not so much a whine as a note of worry concerning the current way things are going.

I myself dont understand the closing of aurora... it is part of ISD... which is made completely of volunteers so they dont get paid (except maybe the character actors)... huh?
TBH you make a good point, however it would be alot less hassle for CCP to keep a good image when theres always at least one tinfoil hatted idiot or loud mouth rigteous twit who slams CCP.
BTW Your post is neither, and I'm glad of that. You raise valid points. ______________________________ A Request About Lag Discussion -- Yet another "Edit my sig devs!" request \o/ |

Why? I'm interested in the answers. I've come back from a 6 month break, and I still don't see any great changes to the things that made me take a break in the first place.

Hmmmzz didnt know what... well perhaps, and we can only hope, CCP is insourcing the RP department, what with the upcoming factional warfare: perhaps they have some more ambition hidden away some where and plan on using inside staff to create massive constellation spanning events.... but somehow.... I think not. ----------------------------------------------- "post with your main. delete your alt, you sad little exploiting metagamer." |

Ive seen the model comparison: this clip was released in 2006... I think the new trailers are done in some sort of hybrid form: they look MUCH better than the ingame models, but not as good as the dx9 models. I get your point, but 3 gallente shipmodel comparisons does not make a trailer. ----------------------------------------------- "post with your main. delete your alt, you sad little exploiting metagamer." |

No flames from me, I always wondered why ccp would want people to pay for news worthy items and screenshots of new content. (eon/evetv)
Imo it would make more sense to promote their game on their own website, have a planned features and graphic updates page full of stuff we can expect soon, easy to find and acces, hyping their game.

I've never got the idea of pay per view marketing that CCP seems to love.... marketing should be FREE. EVE TV should be totally free, without hassle, and hosted on major gaming sites. They do have a planned update: In dev, in testing, drawingboard etc. Alas this is totally out of date. I've posted on that before, but the thread got wiped. ----------------------------------------------- "post with your main. delete your alt, you sad little exploiting metagamer." |

A positive hypotesis would be that CCP has worked with the White Wolf people to finally set up a internal RP department, but that will be something to annunce with a fanfare.

Which does seem likely. But again it doesn't really explain why they feel the need to set it up and destroy the other one, which has served us well.

I would have AT THE VERY LEAST expected something along the lines of: The aurora team has been disbanded pending the announcement of something wrapped in sugar. I mean basic PR says that you need some good news and some bad news. bad first, but oh look, there's the good. ----------------------------------------------- "post with your main. delete your alt, you sad little exploiting metagamer." |

I'm sure I've said something along these lines before...
Diversify OR excel.
Nobody can do both. CCP have spent the last 2 years focussing on diversifying - 2 main areas which have taken the focus away from EVE proper were the China server and the White Wolf thing.
And before anyone spouts about EVE-China and WW being operated by totally seperate people let me just say that's nonsense. We lost several key devs to the (failing) China project and the attention of the CCP leadership is clearly not focussed 100% on TQ and EVE every since the WW acquisition.
Excel OR diversify.
End of story.

I too share your love for this game. As i said countless times before it is the best MMORPG out there. On the other hand I also have to agree to most arguments you made! I wish CCP would freeze all new features in development and invest 105% manpower to fixing the actual game. It hurts me so much when i hear about all this rubish that CCP is investing time into while their actual core product is broken (and thats admittedly the case - see recent devblog for Rev III).
And another thing.. i find it so sad how many people post in every thread without even having read the first post... this first and can i have your stuff is just so old and lame... why not just stfu if you have nothing constructive to say..? Cornucopians post was actually very well written and not at all a flame magnet so why not take him a little serious and at least read what he has to say.

on these two issues.
1) the Aurora deal. This was a news item not too long ago that they planned on doing away with the Aurora storyline system after a scandal or some such. If you chose to ignore the news item or to not read it then thats bad on you.
2) The graphics upgrade. Um, hae you not seen the re-renders of ships? This isnt another expansion to the game its an update. There shouldnt be a trailer video. ________________________________ High Sec PvP

indeed. I've only been here 6 months or so but i am fed up with every patch that introduces broken new content (exploration anyone) and fails to address the multitude of outstanding issues..
what really annoys me is how ccp harp on about how many people play and how proud they are that there is no instancing or sharding. **NEWS FLASH** it doesnt work, your server is very, very broken. maybe if you talked to your players you would realise that all the lag, desync issues, crashes make many of the games' core concepts unplayable by all but masochists. Instead you seem to shrug it off as a minor inconvenience. Pffft

Now that you mention it, I did read about the Aurora scandal and insider knowledge leaking, or something to that extent. Seems a little weird they are only actually disbanding it now though... since those events happened a few months ago. Even then it's a slap in the face to the entire RP community that CCP hasnt even ANNOUNCED what is to follow aurora.
Also, yes, I have seen most of the re-renders in the awesome thread some COMMUNITY members keep updating, which I think I have also stated further along in this thread. Kindly read the entire thing before kneeyerk clicking the reply button.
You do have a point though: there is info, we all know, but it is scrounged by the community: not released by CCP, and its an atrocious state of affairs. ----------------------------------------------- "post with your main. delete your alt, you sad little exploiting metagamer." |

so atrocious that you're still playing, eh? give it up with the slander. Yes they dont do everything perfect, and i'll be the first to agree. But you are calling the state of affairs ATROCIOUS because you didnt take the time to read a few news articles and because you think we deserve a "trailer" for new ship models. Get over it man, they are doing a fine job with keeping us up to date about the graphics update.
As for your other issues mentioned such as the ISK farmin, i have to agree with you 100%. They sit idly by and watch these obvious Macro Miners and ISK farmers without repercussion.
And Eve-Tv....hahahahahaha roflmao, what a horribly lame idea to "raise money" on CCP's part. These videos are nothing short of extended Live Dev Blogs which they have (somehow) goaded a lot of people into paying to see.
And on the issue of the servers. The constant "we're throwing millions of dollars in hardware at the problem" excuses are getting old. They refuse to admit that they should have fired their coders, so they'll waste subscribers' money on near useless upgrades. Dump python and some of your coders, CCP and maybe, just maybe, youll have amore stable running environment for the server. ________________________________ High Sec PvP

There won't ever be an Amarr heir I don't think. Not because CCP is too lazy to do so, but because all of the royal houses are perfectly content without one. If they do finally decide on a new emperor I believe he'll be assassinated by a rival house.
Quote: -the current server issues (which is a VERY mild way of putting it)
They're working on the desync thing and the server downages lately have been a microsoft issue, not CCP's software (though one can make a good argument that MS isn't a good choice)

Bad acid trip?

Handled by the group that does EON, CCP doesn't make money off of it.
Quote: -Non action on the part of ISK sellers... (why...?)
Actually, a recent dev response to a thread indicated that very soon they would be doing something, but they can't say what because it would tip them off.
Quote: -and now RP... aurora is killed without a mention....
Good question, but to be fair we should give them some time to elaborate on this before the flaming begins.

One could make an argument for that, but everything you've mentioned doesn't take developer time away from the game itself. No matter how many different EVE shotglasses you can order, the same bugs would still exist if they weren't there.

Edited by: zibelthurdos on 22/08/2007 14:41:50 OP i agree with most of your post, however about the adding new content and not fixing things..
there is a newish dev blog about how factional warfare and new features have been tabled for now, so they can focus on fixing the game. they still plan on adding new mission and encounter content because that doesn't affect the base code.
and one huge point for me was the devs saying they were moving to an RDMA system which will finally allow a single solar system like jita to span not only multiple processors but if need be multiple physical machines. dev blog in question ----------------------------------------------- I have come here to chew bubble gum and kick ass, and I'm all out of bubble gum" |
