Edited by: Samuel Freedom on 23/08/2007 18:01:52 Hi I am currently doing Level 3 mission in a Jaguar and I don't have a problem doing any of them. I have tried a few level 3 missions and I am struggling, here is my setup;
High - 3x 150mm autocannon II, 1x Rocket Launcher II
Med - 1x 1MN Afterburner II, 1x Medium Shield Extender II, 2x Rat specific Amplifiers II
Low - 3x Shield Power Relay II
Ammo - Rat specific
This setup is very easy for lvl 2 missions as you have probably guessed but lvl 3's I have encountered so far have not been and I have had to warp out quite a bit. Does anyone use a Jaguar for lvl 3's and doesn't have to warp out alot [shield or armour tank] ? (save extravaganza and such).
Can the Jahuar solo lvl 3's reasonably or will I need a cruiser? The ships in the cruiser class all seem to be armour tankers. I am going to train up armour tanking once I have done shield tanking, but for the moment could someone suggest a shield tanking Minmatar cruiser worthy of level 3 missions.

I'v run them in my jag, i used art's though, and not auto's.....then i switched to the wolf with art's, think that worked out better.

If you aren't limited to shield tanking (basic armor skills don't take too long to train), try a Wolf. It can fit a full 4 slot tank while still doing better damage than your Jag. It is especially good against Amarr rats.
If you are limited to shield tanking, you could try either changing your setup a bit (it is possible to fit 2 MSEs although you might need to switch some SPR for PDUs or drop down to named) or move to a Stabber. The Rupture is generally better for PvE, but it is an armor tanker.

I've done every standard L3 in an unrigged Jag without a warpout, with the exception of Mordu's which I've never quite managed. (I've come close though, and only need one warp. /shakes fist at Mordu...) Your setup doesn't look bad either, though for a lot of L3s I'd want more damage and less tank. (Most I run with two gyros.) I don't think you'll have too much trouble once you get some practice, unless your skills need a lot of work, or there's something you're doing wrong. Some missions are hard though: Mordu's, like I mentioned, Gone Berzerk, and Blockade being the toughest.
- Are you sure you're using the right resists and ammo? - Are you being careful not to aggro multiple spawns where possible? - Are you using transversal to minimize damage from turrets? - Are you killing webbers first?
As far as Cruisers go, the Stabber can do a few easy L3s, and the Rupture a few more. Bellicose might actually be a decent choice too with its extra mid and launcher, I don't know.
But I haven't tried to work with Cruisers much, and virtually everybody recommends moving up to BCs or HACs instead. * * * In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

No point really in using a jaguar, if a cruiser can do the mission quicker. I would say stabber (or the cyclone if you can fly it).

In my opinion the only Minmatar cruiser able to run all level 3 missions is the Rupture, but it's a dedicated armour tanker. I have tried the Bellicose and Stabber for some level 3 missions but many missions are too tough for these ships. Running missions with Jaguar (or Wolf) is fun sometimes but I didn't find an effective fitting to compete with a Cruiser or Battlecruiser. Even without warping out and using T2 guns and T2 ammo it simply takes a lot more time to finish a L3 mission because of the lower average damage output.

I used to run level 3 missions in a Cyclone all the time. It was quicker in a BS, or a 'cane (had some money problems recently).
However, the cyclone setup I used was something like this.
5 x 720mm artillery II, 3 x Heavy launchers
Large T2 shield booster, 3 x rat specific hardeners (2 x prime damage 1 x secondary) except for angels (1 x exp, 2 x invuln) and mercs (1 x em, 2x invuln) (all hardeners T2) and a T2 cap recharger (or lower depending on skills or money) T2 damage control, gyro II, tracking enhancer II, and a PDS II.
All mods can be dropped to T1 named and you should still be able to run most level 3's without warp out. (I never managed the new Mordus one though :()

Hopefully the mods won't play with this one

I haven't encountered a cruiser that can really be efficient in Level 3 missions. I really like the Myrmidon, Drake or Hurricane for Level 3s. ------------

You can do L3's in a cruiser, but you will have to pay a lot more attention than you would in a BC. All of the skills are transferable basically, so I'd suggest going that route.
It's too easy to afk through L3 missions in my Drake, while I would have to pay attention in my Caracal.
