Hello,
Does anyone know of a good free video converter?
I have been looking for a few days, and everything that I come up with makes the video come out with horriable quality.
Thanks! Free beer and a cookies to first dev to mod my sig -Kurfi |

I want to convert fraps footage in AVI, to MPEG.
Or AVI to WMV, and convert back to AVI.
thanks for the DS autoencoder link, but not what I am looking for. Free beer and a cookies to first dev to mod my sig -Kurfi |

MeGUI is free and does converting to a whole bunch of formats.
Why do you need your FRAPS footage in MPEG format? MPEG, if you mean MPEG-1 or MPEG-2, is incredibly outdated and useless for most modern stuff.
For converting AVI to WMV, use the Windows Media Encoder from Microsoft.
And for converting WMV to anything else, install Avisynth, and then create a script that looks like:
DirectShowSource("nameoffile.wmv")
And open this in Virtualdub, and save with the codec of your choice.
That method, by the way, works for basically every format known to man. Who needs fancy software programs when you can eliminate their need with a single-line script?

When I put WMV, into iMovie, it gives a watermark.
And It will not let me put the raw AVI files into iMovie.
Thats why need MPEG, I cuould also convert to WMV and back to AVI.

I believe MP4 works with iMovie, and MeGUI can convert to that.

I never was very good with scripts, I tried to run the script in VirtualDub, and this happened.
Error during script line 1, section 17. Variable "DirectShowSource" not found.
DirectShowSource<!>("e:MOVIE\Apocalypse.avi")
and, DirectShowSource("e:MOVIE\Apocalypse.avi") is the script I made. saved in vcf format.
I know what I missed is probably somthing really stupid..... Free beer and a cookies to first dev to mod my sig -Kurfi |

AVS, not VCF
VCF is a Virtualdub script, I believe; we're dealing with Avisynth scripts here, which are .AVS.

AVS works pretty well, buttt, when I view the output vid, it is just one picture, not a video....
My code looks like:
DirectShowSource("e:\MOVIE\Apocalypse2.avi", fps=30) _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________

That doesn't make any sense. What codec is your source video using? What codec did you encode to? Using what program? Does it look fine when you open the AVS script in Virtualdub and click play?

I played around a bit with MeGUI, and found that I could encode my AVI files with DIVX. And it works with iMovie.
It is pretty easy once you get useed to making the scripts.
Thanks for the help again, probably would not have figured it out without you DS. Free beer and a cookies to first dev to mod my sig -Kurfi |
