The research and invention science skills, except encryption methods, have been seeded on the market at a base price of 10 million ISK each.
Graviton Physics. I FINALLY SOLD THEM ALL! THEY ARE ALL GONE! I HAVE NO MORE! Except for one, actually. And I'm not leaving the market yet, even if I lose a tiny bit when it crashes. My question is, is the bubble going to burst? I almost don't want to bring it up, but now that I'm not holding two dozen of these mystery boxes of potentially combustable ISK, I'm a little less scared to bring it up.
What's going to happen on Tuesday? Is this module exempt because I can't read correctly?

You did a good thing. All science skillbooks are being seeded at 10mil for exactly that, to rip out the imbalance in pricing thats going on. People with the lower-priced skillbooks will be able to jam their prices higher, and people with the higher priced ones, if they paid more than 10 mil are, well, screwed :)

I've been buying a few books that were around the 3-4 million mark for personal use later on, because I'm cheap.

Edited by: Hanoi Hana on 27/08/2007 03:26:22 No, DON'T use instasell! I have sold two dozen since WELL after these patch notes were out, put it up at regular prices and it will sell overnight. I have retracted any of my 20mil buy orders, but I have confidence they are still selling strong. I just don't want to be holding the short of end of stick when they finally crash quickly.

People keep saying this... why? The old mission drops, AFAIK, are staying in, so if there was an oversupply beyond the point where the market would support a price of 10m isk before, that oversupply should still exist after Tuesday. There's no reason to expect this would raise the prices on anything!

The one instance I can think of is if the only seller in the region is an NPC seller (at 10 million ISK) at which stage you could quite likely sell a few at 9.5 million at the same station. Anyone uninformed will see that the NPC is selling at 10 mill and hence assume you're selling at below cost due to buying too many or whatever. NPC prices gives some people a false belief that the NPC price is the real value of the item.

Well i have actually bought a load of skill books for around 2mil each, hopefully these will increase in value should make a nice little profit, over time.
I suspect these will dissapear from many mission drops over the coming weeks...

Usually if the book is seeded they don't keep them dropping on missions. There is no need to.
As for the low priced over supplied books, I can see why someone would start selling them for 8-9mil. Why not. If someone goes looking for the book and the NCP says 10mil. And they see people selling them for 9.5mil they will buy the 9.5mil book. Even if they are oversupplied and under-demanded.
Anyone with a few billion will probably buy up all the sub-10mil books anyway, take them to the NCP station that sells them and put em up for 9mil. And place a buy order for 7mil. At least that is what I would do if I didn't have almost all my capital in other items at the moment. Not going to waste my time over maybe 10-20books.

None of the lower priced books are going to be going up, and speculating that they will is going to screw you to the wall with large rusty screws.
Look at the prices for the racial drone specialization books once the LP store went live. Instead of their NPC price (and people moving them out of their normal region and reselling for more) the price has crashed to a third of its former value.
I had a copy of mechanical engineering that I'd picked up in Silence The Informant (L3)...which is the ONLY mission where these skillbooks drop, AFAIK. When I saw in a dev blog a couple weeks ago that they were planning this change, I put it up on the market and sold it at 52 million. Not my fault other people are dumb.

And you'd be wrong about the low priced books.... How because I scored. I didn't read the patch notes. When I saw Hanoi post I went to sleep thinking the damage was already done.
I went online to see what I could do and I saw HUNDREDS of Physics and Engineering books still for 5mil even at 2 mil. I took into consideration I may make a poor choice and only burned up 300 mil on skill books thinking that they may not go up at all. I wasn't going to risk any more then that.
I said I'm not going to be greedy I'm going to work on other peoples greed. So I worked out a 50% margin for all books and what they would be worth. I placed 300mil worth of books on the market for odd amounts which was 150% what I paid. The average price of the books I placed on the market where between 5-8mil.
Last night someone purchased about 40 books all under 7mil which included mine. (I paid 2-2.5mil) I was worried when I look this morning seeing none of the other books have sold.
However now they have now, every single book I had on sale for 50% mark up they have been sold. I wish I had devoted 600mil to purchase books instead and been just a little more greedy. I know 150mil is nothing great but the risk was kinda high and I wasn't comfortable risking any more then 300-350mil. If I had predicted the outcome I would have liquidated more ISK to purchase ALL the 2-3mil books and marked them for 6-7mil. Then again I'm extremely happy I made a 50% markup with ease even if it was just 150-160mil.
Sharda always said, you make ISK off people doing stupid things, and one of the books I sold for 8,750,000 isk and even those sold (25 of them) so their margin will not be as good as my 50% margin I made.

There's always going to be someone willing to risk more for lower margins than you... craziness
